  1. Yeah, I'm torn on whether or not I like the Brewers getting him. From the rankings, it was a huge haul, but as you said two of the three prospects are pretty flawed. However, there's almost now way the Brewers re-sign him and with one player taking up $13+ mil in payroll, that limits the other additions they can make. Plus, that's a pretty decent chunk of young talent they won't be able to rely on for cheap production.
  2. Alcides Escobar, Lorenzo Cain and Jeremy Jeffress - #4, #1 and #6 Brewers prospects respectively. Would that be comparable to HJ Lee/Brett Jackson/Chris Archer or Trey McNutt from us?
  3. Greinke had one fantastic season (2009), but since then he's been a younger version of Ryan Dempster - outside of 2009 his best ERA is 3.47 and his best xFIP is 3.76. Since 2008, Dempster's ERAs have been 2.96, 3.65 and 3.85 and his xFIPs have been 3.74, 3.81 and 3.89. As for ERA+, Greinke (outside of 2009) has been between 100 and 126 while Dempster has been between 113 and 155. Obviously Greinke is better since he's younger than Demp - I'm not arguing that - but is Greinke really the mega difference maker he's considered? Or is he just a younger version of Ryan Dempster?
  4. So he got on base one and a half times? My math was probably off. He had a 1.000 OBP one year and a 0.000 OBP his second year and I just averaged them. With three PAs, it couldn't be .500 I guess.
  5. I think we can add salary, just not much. We've only picked up $6.5 mil so far this offseason.
  6. Yeah, offensively this reminded me of last year's USC game. Just couldn't hit anything. It's really disappointing after two big wins over Villanova and Pittsburgh. I think we'll be fine, but it is discouraging to drop this one to Charlotte.
  7. I don't know who 4-3 is here, but if it's the same guy I call 4-3 LaRussa will make sure he's signed by the end of spring training. Ahh, Pierre is the 4-3 here. Who's your 4-3?
  8. That's down from the $10 million he got from them last year. There's a little overpaying going on, I think.
  9. You can win at Maryland, though. And if he wins somebody will give him a better job. His problem at Tech was that he was stuck behind juggernauts in Texas and Oklahoma and a really good Missouri team. Nobody in the ACC is established as really good, save maybe for Virginia Tech. He could win an ACC title or two at Maryland.
  10. I'll preface this by saying I wouldn't be surprised in the least if it was Moss calling in. However, I don't think it was him. The voices sound very similar, but "Woody" has a deeper voice than Moss in comparison to the actual clip of Moss they played. Could it just be my imagination or the difference in days? Sure, but I'd tend to think that wasn't Moss, just somebody who sounds a lot like him. Also, it wouldn't be terribly odd for somebody from Nashville to refer to the Vols as Tennessee initially. If it were a caller from East Tennessee, that'd be different, but the devotion to UT dilutes a bit once you cross into Middle Tennessee. Interestingly, this came out right about the same time the Tennessean ran a story about how Moss is happy with his role and has been intently tutoring Kenny Britt.
  11. Somebody really needs to hire Leach. He's too good a coach to still be unemployed.
  12. Yep, he's getting $8.5 million from the White Sox this year, according to Cot's.
  13. That's definitely a possibility I hadn't thought of.
  14. Julio Zuleta also had a leadoff plate appearance, interestingly enough.
  15. Ozzie Timmons got 3 leadoff PAs with the Cubs in his two years with them. And hey, he had a .500 OBP in those three plate appearances.
  16. I doubt it had much behind it, but hopefully Hendry didn't even consider it for long (or at all).
  17. The thread title includes a question mark. It's been changed since his post. It was originally – DLee replaces AGon (SD)
  18. He is getting a guy that it makes sense to start Colvin in front of. That might be the goal – get a guy with a reputation for hitting for power and playing good defense and a guy who it's actually reasonable to start Colvin ahead of.
  19. As would I. Brett Jackson could probably OPS below .700 for us with better defense.
  20. aaron rowand destroyed his face one time to catch a flyball. you can't put a price tag on that hustle and grit. Good point. I should have taken that into consideration.
  21. Kosuke 2010 OPS: .809 Rowand 2010 OPS: .659 I see no positive to this trade whatsoever.
  22. I was always more of a Brian McRae fan, myself. He stole home once! Yeah, I always preferred McRae too. While I hated to see McRae go, for some odd reason I thought we were getting Carl Everett back instead of Lance Johnson.
  23. He wrote the book "The Game from where I Stand"
  24. Lance Johnson led off for a year or two for us didn't he?
