  1. A [expletive] division is keeping them in contention. Unlike Balt. of '98, the Cubs don't have the Yankees to look up at.
  2. The Cubs are stuck in limbo right now, similar to the Orioles about 9 years ago as far as generally declining with aging, regressing, and overpaid players absorbing most of the payroll and little from the (while slightly improving) farm system.
  3. It's a good deal for the Cards and along with Derosa puts them as the leading candidate to win the NLC.
  4. He's always been rather streaky though. When he's good he can be unhittable at times. When he's bad, he's awful. Agreed. At times, he can have three plus pitches and w/real good command with all 3 of his cutter, curve, and change. It's when the change-up is not working that he tends to get hit hard b/c for RH'ed batters everything plays off that change.
  5. I don't know b/c between some teams having that Thurs. off after the break compared to other teams, I like the fact we limited it to 4 starts butI think it is too small of a sample of games. Even in the beg. of the year, it is at least 5 games depending on the weather. What did Philly play like 2 games last week?
  6. He's a set-up man that happens to be a closer, I wouldn't give them a closer's asking price unless it was someone that was likely be that shut-down guy.
  7. I still think the short week was BS.
  8. WTH is a "pure" hitter? It is the ability to hit for avg. What's pure about it? The ability to have bat speed, maintain a level bat thru the swing, great hand-eye coord., and a solid line drive approach. It isn't different than trying to figure out what is a power hitter.
  9. It's a fair term and one that has validity even in today's game despite the trend towards fantasy baseball. Financially, it makes sense sometimes to have cheaper guys come up thru the system that hit for avg. more than power.
  10. WTH is a "pure" hitter? It is the ability to hit for avg.
  11. God hates you as that could be my only reason for becoming a Cubs and Clippers fan. The only thing more exciting than Bartman reaching over in '03 is the permanent wax figure of Elgin Baylor at the NBA draft lottery.
  12. Drop Bruce, add Luke Scott. (I was getting tired of waiting for Vance)
  13. Tick, tock....... Tick, tock.....
  14. The Quakers/Tootie match-up should also be good. You won't Gary Hughes my ass this week.
  15. Congrats Juan.
  16. C'mon Pujols, get 3 points in the next AB and then have the Cubs come back and win.
  17. Morgan was right as far as Soriano locking up his front hip, he didn't explain that he does that b/c of his bad knee.
  18. His hand will be fine, it hit the fat part of the palm. If it would've hit the fingers, the odds would've dropped dramatically. I think he was trying to hit the arm instead of the ball.
  19. Also consider that Halladay has leverage as well. If I was him, I'm thinking... "if you want me to waive my no trade clause, I want a 4 year deal close to market value around 18-20 mil per year".
  20. That was a hell of a week, Brian. Like Navin, you've had some [expletive] luck.
  21. Clerical error on my part. I agree that it should be ran a day later.
  22. There's no way anybody is going to take Wells unless the Jays pick up at least half of his contract. Rios is a possibility, but I would think the Jays would be better off trading Halladay and Rios seperately since Rios has "some" trade value. Of course Toronto would have to eat some of that contract of Wells, but it still doesn't mean that they would likely play teams off of each other. The only problem including Wells/Rios is that eliminates teams on the cheap (which helps the Cubs since including Wells/Rios would likely eliminate Mil. and STL). Rios doesn't have a trade market now without Tor. taking on some of his contract as well.
  23. Toronto isn't likely going to trade Halladay without including Wells or Rios in that deal to help them financially.
  24. I was thinking that with Doumit back in Pitt. and being optioned to AAA that Robinzon Diaz would be the type of player that the Cubs would go after and would make a good fit as he's a plus defender and has enough of a bat to be a back-up C.
  25. That's way too many from a senior sign that is older than most in Short-Season in a system with decent catching depth.
