  1. Nice job by toby, looks like he is starting to progress, he definitely has the tools to be a very good pitcher, getting him mentally prepared to do so has been the issue. Based on his age, I'd like to see him at least finish the season in Boise.
  2. It's a good trade for the Bucs b/c they didn't give up anything worth a lick, but the odds are pretty small they'll get anything of value from this either. Milledge isn't smart enough to learn to use his tools, he's a great BP hitter and taking IF/OF, hasn't been able to put it in use when the game is being played.
  3. I'm all for it. Wells is a marginal pitcher that is pitching well right now, Bell has been one the 3 best relievers in baseball over the last 3 years. Trade for Bell and F. Sanchez, win the division, and hope they don't choke in the playoffs.
  4. NC Cubs at Saber Metrics Quakers at Harrys Budcrew The Fighting Manginos at The Eyes of Texas Lynx at Valenzuela's Screwballs Severe Tooterstorms at Tampa Bay Rays Alamo Stealth at Tootielicious Galesburg Hand Sanitizers at Northside Baseball Fuzzy Logistics at Raw Dawgs The game of the week will likely end up Alamo vs. Tootie. 2 good teams that will likely be in the top 3 in points this week. I'm thinking NCCubs vs. SABR will be a close one as well as the Lynx vs. Screwballs.
  5. :( Hopefully he isn't enrolled in USF summer school and the Cubs still have a chance. Their expected signing bonus is way off. 9th round money is around 75K+school. 13th rd. is around 50K + school.
  6. Many of the smaller market teams have had some success by building that way while having a smaller payroll over the past few years. TB has won from within, Minnesota, Oakland, Clev. did a few years ago, Florida, Colorado, SD. 16 years/soon to be 17 years of bad baseball is quite a streak. I agree that they've made strides these recent years though, but they're still not at mediocrity yet.
  7. The Pirates only managed 4 runs in 2 games against the Ass Cubs. I'd hate to be THOSE guys. Honestly, this is the one time where I think it's okay for a fan of another team to come and talk crap. You guys suck ass and have for years, but at least you know you're going to suck. We have $140 million payroll and are absolutely horrid. In some ways, I envy teams like the Pirates being able to trade their veteran players and rebuild through the minor league system. Of course, when it is a neverending cycle of trading players and starting over, that's no fun either. That's b/c despite the high draft picks and rec'g prospects at the deadline, they still haven't been able to develop from within.
  8. They have no idea where the strike zone is offensively. Their ability to get the pitcher into hitter's count is long gone. I watched up until it was 2-0 and the only one that worked it into a hitter's count was Soto on the DB. It should be noted that Soto hit a 3-1 FB after being thrown 4 straight breaking balls b/c the league has started to figure him out as far as not being able to hit a breaking ball. Last year, he was able to work it into a FB count though more than this year.
  9. You're going to have to address mechanics, types of pitches they throw, previous arm injuries, random flucuations on how one day they can become fatigued after 80 pitches and the next start can get to 115 without showing signs of fatigue.
  10. As well as Derosa knows the Cubs pitchers, they know his weaknesses better. Just watch how the Cubs pitch him with constant breaking and off-speed stuff while everyone else goes with the FB more.
  11. The worst defensive outfield in MLB history? Close: Zambrano-RF Rhodes-CF Roberson-LF
  12. Even though the Cubs didn't likely aggressively pursue Derosa and won't likely go after him, I would rather see them go after F. Sanchez than Derosa.
  13. More importantly, he has the bat speed to generate power in the future once he learns how to pull the inside pitch instead of inside-out to LF. It's easier to teach a kid how to pull a ball than teach him to go gap to gap.
  14. How would getting Carlos Beltran be part of a fire sale and why would any team take on Fukudome's contract? Also, this team will be in win it now mode for as long as possible.
  15. I was hoping to see Carpenter at KC, since I missed him each time thru Beloit and KC.
  16. With Burke, I think the power will come as right now he's more of a line drive gap to gap hitter. There's plenty of reasons to believe that it will come as he matures.
  17. I'm glad I got high points again, I wish I could do it when Greinke didn't have two starts in the same week.
  18. Yes being insulted shouldn't bug anyone, even coming from someone like him. While I agree with him, it's funny coming from that source and his primary source of interaction (locker room). I would say the avg IQ of a person in the 21-40 age group in this forum is likely higher than the players on the Sox and any MLB team, although I'm sure there are exceptions.
  19. It leads to more important questions rather proving fact. My next question would be, how well did they hit? (which is the most important question), what spot of the order did they hit, and who hit in front of them. There are enough variables in there for me to question any RBI difference by itself. Raul Ibanez drove in 25 more RBis last year over Mauer, yet Mauer was a much more productive hitter.
  20. Whaley might end up at SS at Miami, so I'm on the fence as far as him with the best FB. Of course they're not going to get him, I assume. If that's the case, Trey McNutt has the best FB.

  23. If they would've brought someone in like a Wigginton super-sub, I would've been pleased with the trade. But, they brought in a middle infielder coming off a career/fluke year which still translated to good numbers for a MI but bad for any corner position. The sad thing is if they wanted to become sellers: Soriano-no trade value Fukudome-no trade value Bradley-no trade value Ramirez-coming off injury/best player on team Lee-no trade clause Soto-too early in his contract to trade Fontenot-no value Theriot-early in contract/not likely to get much Zambrano-new expensive contract from last year Dempster-new contract Lilly-one of few with any type of value Harden-oft-injured Wells-too young to sell Heilman-no value Gregg-maybe get something.
  24. I had no problem with trading Derosa, they just replaced him with a bad ballplayer in Miles. Hendry gambled with Bradley, he was going to a boom or bust type of player especially with games played, I had no idea he would be this bad offensively. Hendry's mistakes were no bench with a very fragile starting 8 and no bullpen with a rookie #5, oft-injured and not 100% healthy Harden, and an inconsistent Zambrano.
  25. Any JUCO in the country would've loved to have had him.
