  1. They updated some of their rankings: More accurate, definitely not 100%. R1 DT LOUIS NIX III NOTRE DAME R2 CB KYLE FULLER VIRGINIA TECH R3 DE JACKSON JEFFCOAT TEXAS R4 ILB YAWIN SMALLWOOD UCONN R5 QB JIMMY GAROPPOLO EASTERN ILLINOIS R6 CB KEITH MCGILL UTAH R6 RB TERRANCE WEST TOWSON
  2. I wish the rooftop owners would've protested this.
  3. I don't know how I missed the job opening to the be Clark...
  4. Can we just reserve this thread for future chapters of Clark's True Hollywood Story?
  5. Because Billick's current job is a million times easier than coaching again? Are there reports that Billick even wants to coach again? He interviewed for the Eagles' job last year and specifically mentioned he would listed to Detroit.
  6. I still have no idea why Detroit wouldn't go for Billick over these guys.
  7. CJ would've been a hell of a baseball player. Seen him as a soph in HS hitting 89, him and Grundy were grwat at Johnsburg.
  8. Mack fell to me with this one... R1 OLB KHALIL MACK BUFFALO R2 DT TIMMY JERNIGAN FLORIDA STATE R3 ILB CHRIS BORLAND WISCONSIN R4 S DION BAILEY USC R5 CB KEITH MCGILL UTAH R6 DT RYAN CARRETHERS ARKANSAS STATE R6 C GABE IKARD OKLAHOMA
  9. I haven't looked at salary implications but... Even if they sign Tanaka @ market value, what will their payroll look like compared to last year?
  10. They gave him market value without a bidding war, Tanaka is completely different. One guy at 13 mil per since they bought the team is not an indication they're going well above teams that have shown they'll spend anything they want. I don't get what you're saying. Obviously they have chosen not to spend a lot of money, but I think the point is they have also shown they do have the ability to spend money when they want to. And we all know they actually do have the money to spend. What CubinNY said was they could throw boatloads of cash to outspend everyone else in getting Tanaka, as you mentioned having the ability to and the willingness or two separate stories. I highly doubt they'll outspend everyone else to sway him from other more desirable cities. I predict the Cubs will be lumped with most of teams and either LAD or NYY having one extreme offer that blows away the others, it doesn't hurt his US agent is the same one that has Kershaw and Greinke as theirs.

  12. Do you think that the Tanaka interest is just for show? Or is it a "FA doesn't want our money" thing on top of a limited payroll? It doesn't matter if its for show or not. I'm sure they want to sign him, but as N&G said, why would he sign here? What would compel him to come here as opposed to a team poised to content with better facilities? Interest is great, but they have to turn that interest into results. It completely matters within the context of the discussion between SSR and TT.... Before it becomes a semantics argument, we need to find out what SSR considers "payroll hell", if it's 85-100 mil regardless of where the team is talent-wise b/c of lack of funding, I would tend to agree with that.

Interest is great, but they have to turn that interest into results. Lots and lots of money. The Ricketts seem to find a pot of gold when they need to. Compared to teams who have shown to spend more? At best for the Cubs, they're in the same area code with NYY and LAD. Still (minus the White Sox) I don't see a less desirable destination for Tanaka and his wife, given location, team performance, market size, and culture. The only time they've wrestled some funds together was when they purchased the team.
  14. Didn't know about Kasem Williams' injury: Still bored at work today: Another one: R1 DT LOUIS NIX III NOTRE DAME R2 DT TIMMY JERNIGAN FLORIDA STATE R3 OLB ADRIAN HUBBARD ALABAMA R4 S DION BAILEY USC R5 CB KEITH MCGILL UTAH R6 DE DEANDRE COLEMAN CALIFORNIA R6 C RUSSELL BODINE NORTH CAROLINA Definitely flawed rankings: But here it is... http://fanspeak.com/ontheclock/
  15. If Dix or Mosely are gone and Hageman is the BPA on defense, then I'll change my tune but right now, he's a slight reach IMO.
  16. Completed my 1st simulated mock draft: 1)Dix-S (Bama) 2)E. Ferguson DT (LSU) 3)A. Hubbard DE/OLB (Bama) 4)T. Larsen C (Utah St.) 5)K. McGill CB (Utah) 6)K. Williams WR (Wash) 6)K. Martin DE (UNC)
  17. As much as I want Nix at DT and think Hageman is a reach at 14, how much concern should I have about another DT coming off a severe knee injury?
  18. I'll say he won't be. i think it's safe to say that he won't be Everyone anywhere ever? And that's an understatement. The odds are very high that Manziel will get arrested again before being drafted anywhere in the 1st round. Probably first 3 rounds. case keenum wasn't drafted. i don't see the point, here. Hes short and slight, had a low release and played for a mid-major. Comparison was made as evidence of Sumlin’s style favoring a QB statistically. Manziel is already a huge star and will likely continue to put of massive numbers in the SEC and possibly contend for a national title and another Heisman. This will push up his draft stock. Assuming his production remains somewhat consistent he will be a top ten pick. Christian Ponder was taken 12th overall and is a success story. So I'm pretty bored at work today and decided to dig up this discussion from last year to see how things have changed over the past year. While I still don't think he will be (or deserves to be) the #1 overall draft pick there are some rumblings out there that the Texans may take Manziel with the first pick in the draft. Most mock drafts have him going top 5 with every one I've seen so far having him no worse than top 10. http://northsidebaseball.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=61653&start=850 He's going top 10, he's made very good improvements over last year at this time. Mechanically his arm action is much better and has always had pretty good accuracy. He's work on his arm strength which went from fair to slightly above avg. You can't teach his athletic ability or his instincts when things break down. He's still viewed as weak mentally/extremely immature and his footwork is still subpar. He's going to need to go to an offensive friendly coach with mature leadership. For comedy purposes, I'd love to see him go to #7 and have Lovie as his coach.
  19. That's more prediction than hope. I guess they could be in on Ubaldo or Garza, but I don't think it's that likely. There's a reason my Plan B for Tanaka was "there is no Plan B" back in the Plan the Offseason thread. I really like Ubaldo. I like Ubaldo best of the FA options, but I go back and forth on whether I think they should go after him given the likely cost. I agree with SSR on this one, also, I don't think Ubaldo is worth what he will receive as a FA, he's 30, coming off of his best season since '10. If they're going cheap, I like Capuano as the Scott Baker of 2014.
  20. Perceived as more of a loveable guy until his one incident, declining health before he passed, you mentioned the position, more post-season success. Im glad in a way that Mattingly didnt get in based on the size of the market he played in.

  22. Franklin is going back to his roots, great hire by Penn State. Glad he's out of the division. Similar can be said about Strong leaving the Commonwealth.
  23. They're still going at least one OL©, backup HB, 3rd string QB, possibly 2nd string. It would be foolish to ignore the offense at this point. I still think the o-line is subpar and the #1 goal of the offense to allocate in-game resources to max protect. Id have a hard time drafting Watkins at 14 despite the BPA belief, mainly due to how deep the draft is.
  24. I dont think given the amount they overpaid him that you overlook and not factor into his new contract the full deason's worth of games he has.missed since coming to Chicago. Its great he had great health in Denver, now that he's older and has had a much worse o-line, he hasnt been as lucky. They overpaid for him, similar to what Dallas or Balt did (Flacco has been much better in the post-season) .
  25. Im glad to see him signed, it wasnt the best case scenario but it wasnt the worst either. Wouldve preferred franchising and developing a QB, I definitely think it's too much guaranteed given his injury rate.
