  1. I'll state the obvious... Never good to lose at home with your best starter going vs. the opponents worst.
  2. I'm more surprised that Coats would go to Venezuela, he better be careful.
  3. What a terrible AB by Cameron. Late on fastballs in hitter counts, the 2-0 was tailing inside, and the last one was up. Easy to fail with that approach.
  4. This offense has an early feel of the Cowboys of the early 90s, vertical offense (Irvin/Moose & Harper/Berrian) with a power running game. While the Bears likely won't end as productive as the Cowboys were on offense, the Bears will have a better defense.
  5. Deivi Cruz while Ramon Vasquez on the bench is another case.
  6. While it was idiotic to do some personal bashing of Baker, I find it just as idiotic and hypocritical that you would call Hendry fatso in the same post comdemning personal attacks on Baker.
  7. Vance, don't get too excited about LSU beating up on UK. UK still plays UL-Monroe near the end of the year!
  8. Stitch is right, it's a crapshoot. Of course, I believe getting to the post-season as often as Oakland with their lack of payroll is worthy of respect, especially with those who try to diminish that argument by mentioning the lack of a post-season series win (before this one) and the hype surrounding a book (which is dumb to begin with). The same respect should be given to those who have been able to get to the post-season with lesser payroll (Minn. and Ryan/SD and Towers), but I don't know of any that have done it with the frequency of Oak. over the last few years. In a similar circumstance, it's what makes the Braves the greatest dynasty as well as Schuerholz and Cox the best GM/manager combo of my lifetime.
  9. FTR, Dunn has been as good as D. Lee with driving in runs w/RISP over their careers.
  10. With Alderson taking over, it is possible that both Towers and Bochy won't be back. I can see Depodesta taking over as GM.
  11. While I'm not a big opponent of Piniella (not my 1st choice by any means), this article/blog/rant is pretty similar to the fears that many here have about Lou. http://www.raysbaseball.com/JW-Riddance.shtml
  12. Belated congrats DJ.
  13. As hard as Zumaya throws, you put Verlander in the pen and he'll likely throw harder than Zumaya. I can see him hitting 102-103 on a regular basis. To me, hitting 100 while pacing is a greater show of velo than 102 out of the pen.
  14. UK is one upset away from poss. locking up a bowl bid (assuming they beat the teams they should). Most of that is from a weak non-conference sched. (minus UL), but who's watching? :)
  15. Yeah, if Girardi comes, Kranitz better come along. Have no problem with Orel as a pitching coach (but I don't want him to manage - I know UK likes him as a manager, I don't). Not my 1st choice, but given the choices...
  16. At this stage? Probably not. Hopefully, Wilken with his experience in the AL East has scouted some Int. League this year as well as some Eastern league and maybe his style of managing caught his eye.
  17. FWIW, my dark horse candidate would be Torey Lovullo (AAA manager of the Bisons). BA helps provide validity by naming him best managerial prospect of the Int. League. Raisin would be glad to know that he's also a Bruin.
  18. It deserves to be mentioned not just for him, but for everyone as it is overlooked.
  19. You want a similar situation... Terry McGuirk-Atlanta Braves Alphabetical order... AZ-Kendrick Balt-Angelos Luccino-Boston Castenelli-Cincy Cubs White Sox etc.
  20. Jerry Reinsdorf, if you want to go by proximity 1st.
  21. How many team presidents have "baseball" experience? MacPhail and his prev. experience as GM was the exception rather than the norm.
  22. He's been known as Lou's right hand man for quite some time. He was Lou's strategy guy, did more than most bench coaches. Very aggressive coach, unlike Lou was a player's coach, young and veteran players liked him as Crawford publically wanted him to stay as manager in lovely TB, but will get on players when necc. as well as umps (one of few bench coaches I've seen get suspended). If he was a poss., I would hope he'd get a look. Baldelli was among three Rays veterans who gave glowing reviews of McLaren, who has spent the past 14 seasons working on Piniella’s coaching staff, from Cincinnati to Seattle to Tampa Bay. http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/baseball/93467_mclaren30.shtml
  23. Many bus trips watching Anchorman. I heard a collegiate pitching coach use that this Summer as well, similar situation as far as long bus trips.
  24. Where there is Lou... there is bench coach John McLaren! (For those not around ESPN in late '02, I wanted McLaren to replace Kimm). :)
