The problem with Jacque Jones isn't him falling below expectations based on what was likely expected of him, but rather how much could he improve a line-up that needed alot. Jones exceeded my expectations, with that said, they needed an elite bat in the middle of the order and still do, IMO. That not Jones' fault but rather how the roster was constructed. Jones is stop-gap type of player, he compliments a good offense well, if there are other good parts already in place. If the Cubs had a CF'er like Beltran, Jones would be suffice in RF as I think his salary is fair for what is to be expected, I think the years were excessive, but demands were greater than supply. FTR, his EqA was .276, the avg. RF'er was .274, slightly above avg. You can make the case for Pierre as well being in a somewhat similar situation (except the Cubs traded nice prospects). He played to expectations, but given what the Cubs needed at the top, it would not be enough, especially given the lack of a #2 hitter.
