  1. It'd be a rematch of a game that was just played. That works for me!
  2. It's an interesting comparison if you put his numbers against Hill's. Based on 214.2 IP (same as Kuo) Hill has avg'd 166H 21HR 99BB 275K Kuo has a better FB, not as good of a breaking pitch, but a better change.
  3. South Carolina papers are reporting that USC will play in the Liberty Bowl vs. Houston and UK will play likely Clemson in the Music City Bowl. Wouldn't USC vs. Clemson be a better battle?
  4. I was about to say, I must be missing something with Kuo. His FB is one of the best from any LH'ed starter in baseball. If you want to bring up injuries, I'll agree that his botched TJS is a concern, but he has been healthy the last 2 seasons. Since being signed out of the Pacific Rim, his major and minor league numbers are impressive. 214.2 IP 188H 12HR 92BB 285Ks He's still very raw and will struggle with control, but if he's avail., teams should go after him. If he would be in the Cubs rotation, it would be a good thing.
  5. Great post Craig. In an ideal world a 14/11 split works best in the NL. But, you're correct that the health concerns are too great as well an overall lack of lower pitches per IP from much of the staff (Z, Hill, and hopefully Prior) w/fears of burning out the staff. That just puts a greater emphasis and likely cost on getting more production out of the bench while addressing the needs of having players being able to play mult. positions. The Cubs have done well in getting those types of players that can play mult. spots, but their overall offensive production has been severely lacking, which is where the change needs to occur.
  6. http://baseballanalysts.com/archives/2006/11/the_best_minor_1.php http://baseballanalysts.com/archives/2006/12/the_worst_minor_1.php I prefer the area and advance scouts as well as the coaches' opinions of defensive analysis over one year's worth of data. Best: Eric Patterson Sam Fuld Felix Pie Worst: Nate Spears Ryan Harvey
  7. Those are independent league teams UK? Just currious. Both are, he was released by Windy City and then picked up by Rockford later on. The Frontier League probably has the same skill level as Short-Season or maybe a bad Low-A player.
  8. I don't, I thought it was between the Cubs and Yankees with the Cubs getting Alou and the Yankees getting White.
  9. I agree his plate discipline is what he needs to work on the most. He really needs to learn at how to lay off the low and away breaking ball. Once he learns how to take that pitch instead of chasing it, I think he will definitely become a much more dangerous hitter. If the Sox were to land Figgins, I could see Figgins becoming the starting LF. I'm pretty sure Anderson was an untouchable last year at the trading deadline and I'm pretty sure that Williams is extremely high on Anderson. He'd have to be blown away with a deal to trade him IMO. Every possible scenario of the White Sox upgrading the OF, involves Anderson becoming a 4th OF'er. Phil Rogers had the odd thought of White Sox going after Vizquel by offering Anderson/Sweeney and Uribe to SF. His value might've taken a greater hit than his talent dictates.
  10. So would I, I would let him try and grow into a starting CF'er. Defensively, he's already there. Offensively, his approach at the plate has to improve, which includes his strike zone judgement as well as his inability to lay off pitcher's pitches and waiting for pitches he can drive. It's hard to be a good hitter, when you're forcing yourself to try and hit your weakness (for him, it's the slider low and away). If something did materialize with a Crede/Garcia for Santana/Figgins (I doubt it will), with Fields being ready for the Sox, I assume Figgins would be the fav. for CF and increasing the chance of Anderson being avail.
  11. Am I the only one that feels that Brian Anderson can still play? Yes he had a real bad 1st year in the majors, it was just that, a bad 1st year. I keep hearing this talk about how the Sox need a new CF'er, look at SS 1st as far as the area where improvement should be addressed, especially someone like Lugo.
  12. I'm too biased towards UK players to comment one way or the other.
  13. Prospect Plus now has the top 100 for '08. Hopefully it is more accurate than their top 300 HS'ers for '07.
  14. If the Cubs had never traded Patterson, would they have been content enough with Corey to have never signed Soriano? Interesting, but I think they would've still signed and either traded Jones or platooned him somehow with Murton.
  15. If you feel that a player did use steriods, then you have that right to vote yes or no as far as that player getting in. If I was to rank how low likely each one was to get in, it would be impossible. Most productive: 1)Bonds 2 or 3) Sosa or McGwire Most likely to have been on steroids: 1)Bonds 2)McGwire 3)Sosa It's a slippery slope on that one. It gives writers a chance to voice an opinion that extends beyond normal everyday occurances for them, which isn't always a good thing.
  16. If I had a choice between two middle of the pack starters, I'd take Padilla over Lilly. Padilla and Westbrook would likely create one of the better rotations in the NL. If Hill shows the same glimpses as last year as well as Prior showing somewhat of his '03 form, it could be the best.
  17. They're diff. type of pitchers as well. Sinker ball pitcher vs. a LH'ers who uses the high FB for strikeouts and to change the eyesight of a hitter when setting up his out pitch (curve) and his token change-up to RH'ers.
  18. Bo Flowers wasn't in the Cubs organization last year, he played for the Windy City Thunderbolts as well as the Rockford Riverhawks of the Frontier League last year.
  19. Is that before or after the 1st weekend in April has concluded?
  20. When did Jordan ever complain about anything like this? Jordan spoke thru his actions, I never recall Jordan ever doing anything like this, Jordan got lit up by some bad player on the Bullets for about 36 points in the early 90s and MJ torched him the next time they played. Jordan was only a prick to his teammates and later on when he became an exec. with the Wizards. Jordan had a good relationship w/the media as well, until they became intrusive during the gambling allegations as well as his father's passing. Jordan would never go public by saying he should've won an award, if he was frustrated by him, he would take it out on them the next year.
  21. 40 games at 4-5 innings per start is about the same as 33-35 games at 6IP per start. The arm extra needed in the pen will likely be below the quality of arm that the 5th starter takes up.
  22. It was 3 years he aged not 5.
  23. Prior has abnormally loose shoulder joints, it allows him to put the type of strain that 95+ MPH will create. Of course when the joint is more loose than most, it increases the chance for arthritic changes.
  24. Actually, talk to most athletic trainers or physical therapists and they will tell you that ALL pitchers throw with an unnatural motion. That not withstanding, KW is considered the definition of bad mechanics. and Prior was considered as having "perfect mechanics" by most experts, so what does that tell you? It tells me that he was overworked, took some direct trauma to vital areas for pitching, altered his mechanics to compensate, and hasn't been the same since. The direct traumas certainly didn't help, but he would have had issues even if it weren't for the trauma. The more pitches a pitcher throws, the more he gets fatigued. The more fatigued he gets, the more his mechanics begin to degrade. Even if Prior had perfect mechanics when he started the game, throwing 120 pitches was certainly going to give him bad mechanics for that last bunch. Bad mechanics equals a higher chance of injury. Dusty killed Prior. That's only if you believe that even had he worked normal work loads and suffered the same traumas that he would not be in the same position as he is now. I can't make that claim. . Many things can ruin a pitcher both mentally and physically that are not related to poor mechanics.
