  1. If Wood won't be brought back next season as a sixth starter at a very low base salary that doesn't affect us bringing in an ace like Schmidt or Zito I say we should explore dealing Maddux to a west coat team. Walker, Willamson,Wuertz,Rusch,Blanco,Nevin, Perez, Pierre should interest some contenders.
  2. Derrek Lee was a possibility back in the 03-04 offseason. Florida was trying to move him for pennies on the dollar. A few teams showed some interest, but not enough to take on his entire contract. Derrek Lee was an average offensive 1b prior to his 2005 season with the Cubs. When the Cubs traded Choi and Nannini for Lee prior to the '04 season, I don't think anyone here could visualize Lee putting up the '05 season that he did. It was a total salary dump from the Marlins side of this deal. Hendry got a steal of a deal, as Lee not only made it a totally lopsided trade, but he went from an overpaid, mediocre 1b to an underpaid all star 1b in 2005. Medicore? Please the Cubs traded a guy that probably won't be in baseball in two years for a first baseman at the time who was hitting well in a pitchers park and had plus speed and a gold glover. It was a steal then now it's grand larceny.
  3. this is I belive the second time Zoma he has hit 104 on the gun this year.
  4. Were fighting for last place and have guys like Hill, Guzman, and Ryu who would also deserve a couple starts to show what they can do but where kicking the tires on Oritz.
  5. Hopefully the Cubs can increase this guys trade vaule by giving him as many at-bats as possible. Give Aram a couple days off at third in the next few weeks. Pinch hit with Nevin as much as possible. Give him a start at catcher while Barett is out. Nevin plus a bullpen arm might net us a pretty good prospect from an AL contender.
  6. Gonzo is in the mix that should make a few posters on this board as I know that there first choice. I want sweet Lou.
  7. who cares? the fact is, he put up a 3.11 era and a k per inning out of kc's pen last year at the age of 22 and the cubs got NOTHING for him. i don't know how you can defend that. No one has to defend anything players turn things around all the time and in the same breath they bomb sometimes. The kid might be an All-Star somewhere down the line but the second time around the league guys are hitting .307 off him. His ERA and BAA are actuallly worse than Rusch's . This kid could turn into Bobby Jenks or his weight and attitude could continue to be problems.[/b]
  8. Most reports I have seen on Jones are that he was a well above average right fielder who could cover center in a pinch. His arm is also above average but accuracy is terrible this season.
  9. If the Cubs can afford Schmidt and two impact bats then I'm all for Schmidt.
  10. I'd hold onto the core in either scenario. The problem is the core is extremely small. Or maybe that's a blessing since it allows you to trade just about everybody. Gonny who's in your core for next years team? Cedeno Lee Ramirez Barrett Zambrano Prior I am holding judgement on Marshall and Marmol before I lump them into next years core.
  11. Todays Paper Bruce Miles mentions that the Cubs have a deal done with Sammy only in principle and that they deny any problems with Bud Selig and the 7.25 million report.
  12. If the Cubs are interested in dealing Jones I hope they do it now because hopefully the Yankee's will overpay so that they get his bat a month early. Maybe the Cubs can offer them Blanco, Wuertz,Williamson if he gets to healthy to increase the chances of getting some vaule.
  13. It's sad but as Cubs fans we have to think like that.
  14. If the problem is only after 60 pitches time to send him to the bullpen. Hendry needs to sit with Wood and hammer out a one year deal with a base of 4 million and incentives if he can stay healthy. Let Wood work out his issues in the bullpen and then next spring try and get him stretched out again to be a starter if not you can slot him into the bullpen.
  15. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2493010 For J.P Howell
  16. yet... I'm pretty sure he doesn't live in a bubble and makes it to Chicago once in awhile. I don't live in Chicago but will also make the refrence to those on this board that live out of state that when you live in CHICAGO you would understand things a lot better.
  17. You think Hendry will be fired that soon and replaced with a competent GM? No, I don't think so. But I think we'll see a different Jim Hendry this offseason. Different as in he'll actually do something or different as in he'll actually do something smart? He might change how aggressive he is to get the guys he wants, but the problem is he wants the wrong guys and I don't think he'll change that. I think he'll have one or two key smart moves - he may fall into the decision reactively, but I think there will be 2 good moves at the end of the day. I actually thought signing Eyre and Howry were smart moves - I didn't mind the money. The problem is that Hendry wasted money on Rusch, Neify and Jacque Jones. Net net - negative. I think the "net net" will be positive this offseason. Hoops I not sure this team is two smart moves away from being a title contender. Hendry netting Schmidt , Carlos Lee, Alfonso Soranio would get my hopes up. It's time for the Trib to give Hendry another shot at the helm with $110 million payroll. Wood coming back on a year deal with incentive clauses would help a lot.
  18. It's less likely that Bynum will become a GOOD big leaguer. Are you seriously suggesting that Bynum has the same potential as Murton? Because I strongly disagree with that. Bynum was selected in the second round of the draft in 2000 by Oakland. My question is what did they see in Bynum? There had to be something there to be selected that high in the draft. Bynum ability to play all over the diamond with his speed and average power should give him a pretty good shot at becoming a productive player. Look at Patterson.
  19. He's White (Blanco) hot!!
  20. I'm ashamed that this isn't on the Web yet.
  21. Spier and Rothchild can stay the rest should be fired .
  22. The Cubs actually had a discussion with Piven about this before it happened and he told them he wouldn't use the "B" word, but then did it anyway. You gotta love it. Stickin it to the man. besides Z flirting with a not hitter this been the best Cubs moment this season for me.
  23. anyone have this video , I haven't found it on youtube yet.
  24. Jack Mckeon Ozzie Guillen Mike Scioscia Terry Francona Tom Kelley Jim Leyland Bobby Cox Joe Torre Some manager's that have won World Series since the late 80's. Brenly was not listed . Neither was Gaston because I just don't remember him enough to list him as a old school but if an old school manager can get us the results these guys have gotten i'm all for it. Not sure how many of these guys have moneyball in there library at home. I do know however that they have these things called World Series rings that Billy Beane doesn't. Not sure if that makes them relavant or not.
