I love the trade of Jones and Wuertz for Westbrook that would be great deal by Hendry. We have plenty of arms in the pen that could fill Wuertz's slot like Marmol,Mateo,Guzman,Nova,Ardasma ect. The salaries would also be a wash and open up two outfield spots for Soranio and Drew to join Murton.
I think are bullpen pieces, Jones, Cedeno,Iztuirz, plus all the young major league ready pitching the Cubs have to trade and salary to work with it wouldn't suprize me to see Hendry make a run at a big bat via trade like Dunn,Manny,Well,A.Jones.
gotta say, this is the funniest trade suggestion i've seen in quite some time. Unless you're talking about Manny Aybar. Boston might want to end the Manny saga and the Cubs are one of the few teams that have the money to absorb that contract. Dempster fills there hole at the back end of the bullpen, Iztuirz fills the role Alex Gonzalez did last year all glove no bat. Maybe the Cubs toss in a prospect it could happen. Boston looks to building there future on pitching and defense.
I remember reading an article somewhere where Derosa has learned a lot from Micheal Young and his hitting approach has changed. I don't mind the Derosa signing because he can play anywhere and 4 million isn't too much for a really good utility guy. The market is gone crazy and bargins are gonna be hard to find. This just puts pressure on Hendry to move Jones and find a way for two big bats in the outfield.
I would not touch Freddy Garcia,I am telling he will spend a lot of time on the Dl this year he was really pushing through something the last three months of the season and is overpaid. Who's your closer if you trade Howry and Dempster? Wood? I have no interest in leaving the closer role in Woods hand from spring training and thinking he'll stay healthy.
wow I would have rather had Durahm,Loretta,Soranio,Theriot, Nomar anyone but overpying for Derosa and before any of those other guys inking anywhere is just weird.
Ramirez impressed me a lot with his new deal. Wood did do I think a lot of your are forgetting there is gonna be a ton of money thrown around by a lot of Major League teams. Gil Meche is gonna get close to 9 million this offseason. Wood would have gotten close to 5 million from someone like Texas who would bank on his health and him signing a long term deal if he's healthy.
I'm not a huge fan of Carlos Lee unless he is coming with another bat like Soranio or Drew. We heard a report early this offseason that Jones might ask for a trade now that Dusty is gone. Lee in left field wouldn't be a bad thing if Murton was in right and Drew in center. I think Carlos Lee might be talked into returning to Chicago at a steep discount if all the rumors are true. Anyone else think Lee might want to return to Chicago and hit between Lee,Ramirez, and Soranio?
I really hope the Cubs strike quick and Sign Drew if the Cubs can get him under contract at reasonably rate. This will give the Cubs some leverage in possibly trading Jones and give us leverage against some other free agent bats and maybe get Carlos Lee to come here at a discount if this is really his preffered home which might allow the Cubs to still chase after a top flight starter.
I believe the Providence Journal also reported it. damn won't let me acess the page without signing up but that report was based on Espn.com reports that Boston was the high bidder, they didn't have any other sources in that article if I remember right.
So far Buster Olney is the only source of the Boston rumor and I'm not buying it. If there was word like this out of Boston I still think it would have been Peter Gammons. We are also hearing that Texas might have made a huge offer, were also finding out that the Angels made an offer. I think it will either the be the Cubs or another Dark Horse team like the Angels.
If you think about it, that kind of contract might not be all to suprising if Hendry really is changing his style. Last year he was the slowest GM in baseball, and made barely any moves at the beginning of the offseason. Now, he will make a quick strike at a top FA target. That would be his final offer. If Drew and Boras took to long to look at the offer, and weren't definitive on an answer, Hendry will have moved on to another target for the the OF in a week or so. At least im hoping thats what this kind of large offer would mean. I think your right Jazz I think Hendry might change his style based on the way Frucal screwed them last season.
5 outs away from a world series and 3 years later there's gonna be only big Z next year with the team if Wood and Ramirez bolt and Prior is slated for nothing more than a fifth starters role at best. White Sox and Cardinials come on when does this garbage end.
If this doesn't get done I can not name a time where I was more disgusted to be a Cubs Fan and the Tribune ,Hendry, Mcdoughn can go .... I Leave it at that until its offical.
