  1. I'd like it if some one would just hold this team's head below the water so we won't have to prolong the inevitable.
  2. Apparently he was having really bad allergy problems to start the season, especially with his eyes. Hopefully he can get himself readjusted down in AA. He'd make a nice right handed power option off the bench some day.
  3. Anyone want to guess how many combined starts the White Sox' opening day rotation made during the regular season? 152 Go back and re-read that again. The other 10 starts were done by Brandon McCarthy. Because they had a talented and healthy rotation, they steamrolled the competition. They also had a good bullpen (Hermansen and Jenks). Their pitchers managed to stay healthy and productive over the course of the season. Their offense, on the other hand, was mediocre. Their OBP over the course of the season was .322, good for 24th in MLB (in front of the Astros, oddly enough). Their SLG was .425 (11th in MLB). Their OPS was .747 (16th overall). They scored 741 runs (13th) and hit 200 HRs (5th). Why bring this up? In 2004, their stats: OPS was .790 (7th), OBP was .333 (15th), SLG .457 (5th), 865 runs (3rd), and 242 HRs (1st). That team didn't even make the postseason. Just goes to show you the value of good pitching. While the Sox weren't a joke of an offense last season, they managed to downgrade...and still managed to win the World Series in convincing fashion.

  5. Punch and Judy
  6. Kruk is under the impression that Cano will win a batting title some day. Why, I have no idea.
  7. :-s I Call, and raise you a WTH? He plays for the reds now, dude. Check transactions Roast.
  8. AAA to the majors. It's not like the best players in the majors can jump up another level, ya know? Mitch Atkins through 4 gave up no runs, 1 one hit, 1 walk, and struck out seven, for those of you who are wondering about him.
  9. Anyone want to impersonate a six year old with poor penmanship for the purposes of writing a letter begging Cuban to buy the Cubs? It might not work, but hey, sappiness is always worth a shot.
  10. Since Navin's fallen off the face of the planet, the listed starters: Iowa: Jerome Williams West Tenn: Chris Shaver Daytona: Justin Berg Peoria: Mitch Atkins
  11. That's happened a lot lately Todd. They all look like buzz saws against us. Gotta tip your cap, dude.
  12. While it's a nice idea, the game could be so bad by that point that no one would really take notice of a large group of fans leaving the stadium.
  13. They're going to need some more balls. Nice compact swing, and from the left side. He looked a little off ballance on a few of those though, probably because of the camera. He's big for a SS. He projects as a 3B/OF, from all accounts. Thanks for the vid IMB, he has quite a good swing. I'm curious as to how he looks in the field, though.
  14. It takes a special kind of talent to only have 4 90+ win seasons in the past 50 years.
  15. I'd pay good money to see Ozzie Guillen put Baker in a headlock and pound on him, Nolan Ryan-style. Maybe then some sense would be knocked into Dusty.
  16. So, who gets to come out and pour lighter fluid over this game when Maddux is done? Rusch?
  17. Throw Cal-Poly RHP Gary Daley on the Boras list.
  18. I was relieved for Corey the player when he was shipped out of here. The coaching he received here was just awful. How many coaches were in his ear at once? Sonny Jackson, Dusty Baker, Gene Clines, Sarge Matthews, and anyone else? Come on, that simply isn't the way you teach a guy like Corey consistency. You don't plop him down in one slot, then jerk him up and down the lineup, giving him different roles each time. He never would have performed this well if he stayed in Chicago this season.
  19. Welllllll... It could be a way to get rid of players like Perez, Bynum, Pierre, Jones... Which many NSBBers want. Dollars to doughnuts says that Ryan Theriot would be sent back down in favor of JT Snow if he were acquired. What's the big deal if he sent down - he's just rotting on the bench up here anyways. That was more in response to the idea that getting Snow would displace one of the village idiots than to any problem I have with Theriot getting sent down. Let's face it, JT Snow won't be taking Perez's or Bynum's place if Hendry is dumb enough to trade for him.
  20. Not only is bunting a piss-poor strategy, the Cubs are really BAD AT IT. Its really incredible how they just keep banging their head against a brick wall, hoping the next time they throw their head forward the wall will turn into Jello. What's the old saying? "Psychosis is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result each time."
