  4. Please. No way would the CWS been able to hit Mulder's 87 MPH fast balls w\o cheating. You owe TLR apology. It's posts like these that make me wish you were a Cub fan. ;)
  5. I'm 99% sure that was on the road. Correct you are sir.
  6. The next in the line of position players getting a tryout at pitcher down in Mesa? 2B Pedro Lopez! And yes, for those of you John Wayne fans out there, the Royals have a pitcher named McLintock(!) in their system.
  7. Former OF Alberto Albuquerque started the game for Mesa, going an inning and giving up a run on two hits and two walks. 19 year old Marco Carrillo is now pitching in relief, going four scoreless. Mesa and the Royals are tied at 1 going into the 6th.
  8. Eh, it wouldn't hurt to see what happens if he is the interim manager. Maybe he ends up being respected in the clubhouse, puts together good lineups, and knows what he's doing with the bullpen. If he comes aboard as the interim manager and the team does well, it wouldn't hurt to at least interview him again and give him some thought. If he's just as clueless as Baker, he can be discarded rather easily at the end of the season.
  9. Randy Brown was drafted in the 33rd round by the Cubs in 04. he was taken as an OF but has converted into a P now. I was wondering if that was him. However, I figured he was in the OF. Should be interesting to see how this turns out.

  11. Draftniks will be happy to know that 2006 9th rounder Cliff Andersen has been signed, as he saw some playing time in Mesa today. Also, I have no clue who the guy who blew the save for Mesa is.
  12. When people talk about an arm they usually refer to strength. His arm is strong but his accuaracy is awful. His release point is screwed up. Thats why he throws 7 hoppers to the cutoff man from time to time.Or,launches throws 10 feet over someones head. His routes to the ball are poor. And don't forget his baserunning which is awful. I don't care if he hits 30-35 homers. He is a poor fundamental ballplayer. He fits in well here. It's like Moises Alou all over again.
  13. This team has done a very good job of answering those kinds of questions affirmatively.
  14. Oddly enough, Samardzija is listed on Boise's roster on the MiLB.com website.
  15. Also, C Wellington Castillo, who was supposed to be on Boise's roster isn't there. Wonder where he's headed (I thought he was more likely for Mesa than Boise at the start of the season). Ya, I noticed that Blake Lalli popped up on Boise's roster in his place. Maybe he's injured or having visa problems? I know he was talked very highly of during spring training. Castillo got an AB in Boise's second game of the season.
  16. They're just bluffing, trying to get the Yankees to up their ante? Yes, I've been drinking. Hopefully there's something that imparts clairvoyance in whatever the heck you're drinking.
  17. They aren't injured. But their managers abused them, how can that be? Have you ever heard of the terms, "outliers" and "exceptions to the rule"? If most guys get overused and abused, it makes sense that they'd start to break down over the course of a season with DL stints, missed starts due to soreness or whatever, and so on. It'd be impossible for them to rank among the most abused pitchers in baseball mostly because their bodies would not be able to stand up to that kind of abuse. Yeah, back in the "good old days", guys would go out and pitch 250 innings a season or whatever. However, advances have thrown a wrench into that. The mound was lowered, the strike zone has been tightened, guys are throwing harder and earlier, and medical science has made it possible for guys who used to flame out in the minors due to various injuries to come back. Tommy John Surgery has been a career-saver for countless pitchers. Expansion has also significantly dilluted the talent base and spread out a number of those guys among various teams. In other words, this is a really bad period of time for managers to find out what guys can take a 250 IP+ load. Very few pitchers in baseball could pitch 250 innings in a season without feeling any after-effects as it is. Some could, yes, but those guys are not the norm. Besides, Redman and Vazquez both had utterly horrible years in 2004 and haven't been the same since then. Hell, there were plenty of rumors flying around New York in 2004 that Vazquez was hiding an arm injury from everyone. Overuse can result in troubling things beyond just injuries.
  18. Questionable coaching? Crafty veterans getting meaningful playing time over potentially promising young players? Bad officiating? Massive disappointment in the national spotlight? Holy crap, the US team is actually The Cubs!
  19. Bad PK call or not, this second half has been pathetic. The US has only played well in one game this tournament. They got what was coming to them.
  20. Understatement of the day.
  21. Thankfully, his mullet has been chopped down to less-crazy levels.
  22. Thank Kent for that! I was worried he'd come back with his timing all screwed up because the Cubs decided to rush him back in a futile attempt to make a run. At least this will get him some meaningful reps against a lower level of competition.
  23. If I'm a fan of the Bobcats, I'd be really nervous about having Jordan hanging around. He did some really inexcuseable and flatout stupid things during his time with the Wizards. Maybe he won't repeat his mistakes, but at the same time, there's enough of a history with him to make me wonder.
  24. Here is a list of the players rostered in Mesa. Some of those guys are currently in Boise (Muldowney, Joseph), but the roster should be mostly accurate. Guys from the 2006 draft: RHP Chuckie Platt (23rd rounder, Lamar U) RHP Ron Clipp (33rd Rounder, Point Loma Nazarene (CA)) RHP Andrew McCormick (47th Rounder, Pikeville College (KY)) RHP Jacob Renshaw (10th Rounder, Ventura CC (CA)) RHP Donny Walters (30th Rounder, Richland JC (TX)) OF Elliot Shea (45th Rounder, Franklin Pierce College (NH)) Guys from the 2005 Draft: RHP Kyle Holden (19th Rounder, Cal State San Bernardino) 3B Cody Gilbert (34th Rounder, Lincoln Trail JC (IL)) 1B Luther Murphy (46th Rounder, Draft & Follow Guy) OF Victor Liriano (18th Rounder, El Paso CC (TX))
