  1. Pie's getting a chance to dig himself out of his rut, it seems. Let's see how this turns out.
  2. Can't wait to see a resurgence of those insane Lincecum for Crede rumors.
  3. Charlie Manuel is now a believer in instant replay in baseball.
  4. Remind me again who thought it would be a good idea to put Marquis in the rotation and keep Lieber or Marshall out of it?
  5. I don't think the cubs will rush him either. At only 19, he needs innings at various levels through out the system. there is an outside shot he might get bumped up to Daytona very late in the year just to get his feet wet. With a solid year this year, (looks great so far) he will definately be in Daytona next year though. But certainly no need to rush thihs kid. Welcome aboard! I think the key thing for Rhee this season is physical and mental health. We know he has incredible talent. He is young, still filling out his frame, and has a long way to go before reaching his ceiling. Everything he needs to be successful is there. However, we need to keep in mind that this is his first season in professional baseball. The last thing the Cubs should do to him is get him out of his comfort zone and rush him this season. Right now, their focus should be on building up his confidence and on keeping him mechanically sound. Next season, they can start challenging him.
  6. One problem with this point of view. They traded those guys for Josh Beckett in 2005 (along with Harvey Garcia and Jesus Delgado), the year after they won the World Series. In 2004, Ramirez mostly split time between A+ and AA and had zero chance of being called up to the team in 2004. Anibal Sanchez pitched 76 innings in short season ball in 2004. There was even less of a chance to see him get called up to the majors that season than Ramirez.
  7. Is VORP a good stat to use for pitchers? Because last year he was 34th in the league. 34th among starters? That makes no sense. So he's a number 2? He said 34th in the league, not in baseball. If that's 34th among starting pitchers, then I don't get it. How could there have possibly been 33 starters in the NL ahead of him last season? Notice he said pitchers, rather than starting pitchers. In other words, according to the VORP he used, Hill last season was the 34th overall best pitcher in VORP, rather than 34th best starting pitcher. However, I'd like to see more about this ranking, such as if it's the old VORP (meaning relievers get significantly better treatment) or what sample size cutoffs were used for pitchers.
  8. Windows are never closed!!! I'm sure I'll need the stocking cap and gloves again Sunday though...for 14 innings! We'll be getting back to the 70s by mid-week! Keep up the hope!
  9. Is VORP a good stat to use for pitchers? Because last year he was 34th in the league. Depends on which VORP you use. The old one is much more favorable toward relievers. BP revised this stat and changed the weights for SPs and RPs.

  11. Out of curiosity...what exactly has Theriot proven to all of us so far?
  12. He has the excuse of massively playing out of position.
  13. He strikes me as a future streak hitter. If he can be a little more like Soriano and a little less like Jacque Jones, that'd be welcome.
  14. I'd like to know why Lou thinks having Theriot at SS and Cedeno at 2B makes sense.
  15. In all fairness, righties do slightly better against him than lefties.
  16. Meaning you want the offense to go flying off the rails and crash horrifically? I think they've already accomplished that. :D
  17. Undo the pony tail, poof up the afro, and throw a bone in there...yeah, he could pull it off. That would pretty much get it done, but is there a way we could have Tyrus Thomas get hit in the face with a neverending field of rakes instead of Joakim? I'd prefer to see that happen to Ben Wallace...but that's me.
  18. "When they ask you what you did this weekend, what will you say?" "I drank Busch Light!"
  19. Undo the pony tail, poof up the afro, and throw a bone in there...yeah, he could pull it off. I'm thinking a bases clearing double is coming here.
  20. Holy CRAP that was an awesome throw from Soriano.
  21. At least we have the Bulls! (I don't care about the White Sox, though.) Oh... As long as they lose, I'm happy. They need Brook Lopez, especially if they can find a way to get him to pretend Joakim Noah is actually his brother Robin.
