  1. If he does that, then we'll have a legitimate superstar prospect on our hands. I know I'm not the only one who's excited the Cubs have been scouting the Pacific Rim more extensively. This signing is exciting!
  2. It makes plenty of sense. Both have shown they can have success if they have even halfway decent protection. With as weak and porous as the Bears line was, plugging almost any QB would lead to them facing the same damn glaring weakness. Shore up the line, strengthen the running game and Orton and especially Rex can succeed. Rex Grossman and Kyle Ortan are NOT the answer at quarterback. If you want to keep telling yourslef that, then cool. Quite frankly, one of the biggest problems I had with the Bears' draft was that they did not tab Brian Brohm in the second round and they did not draft a project type of QB like Josh Johnson, Kevin O'Connell, or someone else along those lines with one of their late round picks. They might get a passable backup with one of the two guys they tabbed as UDFAs, but there is no heir apparent at starter. I'm glad they passed on Henne and Booty, though.
  3. Oh come on, the Dodgers play the Pirates at least three times a year.

  5. Oh, boy! Maybe we should just give every vaguely promising pitching prospect in this system TJS and get it out of the way.
  6. I can one-up that. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v414/Outshined_One/BluthFamily.gif
  7. Terrible ump, terrible pitching, and a lack of timely hitting? Yep, these are the Cubs we know and love.
  8. Red means we have to treat your post ultra-seriously.
  9. I'd say watching Piniella versus Yost is like a game of checkers...but that doesn't begin to cover the sheer amount of idiocy at work. Maybe a game of war. There's nothing more mindless than flipping cards.
  10. Don't worry, Tyler Colvin will save us from Reed Johnson.
  11. Russell apparently has one of the best changeups in the organization. His numbers in Daytona were pretty good, but not stellar. If he continues progressing, he could become a top-notch lefty reliever or a decent back of the rotation starter.
  12. I'm debating whether my favorite line of the day is Carmen Pignatiello's or Matt Camp's. Both are terrific in their own ways.

  15. It's been crazy here today! It was raining earlier in the morning and I took my bike to class since the sun came out and there was what seemed to be a decent break in the clouds. About halfway to school, I started getting pelted in the face with frozen rain that was coming down in droves and being blown all over the place. I had to check myself in the mirror when I got here just to make sure my face didn't get cut up. After that, the rain's been on again, off again, with some really strong winds. Needless to say, it feels like March outside.
  16. Bingo bango. If that happens, don't expect them to pony up.
  17. Buffet's the one providing most of the financing to Mars through Berkshire Hathaway. Mars does not have $22b in cash just lying around to make one of these deals, you know? Basically, Mars is taking out a huge loan from Buffet in order to help create a shell subsidiary, pour the $22b into it, buy out Wrigley, and merge Wrigley with that subsidiary in order to keep Wrigley's remaining shareholders and liabilities away from Mars. In order to pay off that kind of loan, Mars will have to sell off a ton of Wrigley's assets and will likely take a bunch of steps to avoid incurring any further debt with Wrigley for the time being. In other words, they will not incur any unnecessary/excessive costs with Wrigley for the time being. I'm guessing that will include the naming rights for Wrigley Field, unless those naming rights somehow confer a tangible benefit on Wrigley beyond what Wrigley pays for it. Something tells me that tangible benefit is not going to be worth the cost of those naming rights.
  18. Well, at least Wrigley will still exist in some form. Granted, in order to pay off the amount they just incurred, Mars is going to have to sell off a bunch of Wrigley's assets and do some creative restructuring. I'm guessing Wrigley's name is going to be off Wrigley Field.

  20. Yeah, this was a pretty bad day on the whole for the Cubs organization.
  21. Fixed for the memories of 2006 this game is giving me.
