  1. Actually, this is pretty tame compared to some of the legendary game thread blow-ups from 2004-2007.
  2. Because the other options range from sailors who might have undisclosed alcohol problems to drunken sailors who can't keep themselves away from the crack pipe. That's really not true. You don't have to hire the same crap that has been floating around the big leagues, you can go outside that pool. Hence the ones who might have undisclosed alcohol problems. Maybe you'll get someone sober and capable, but you might also find yourself in the same situation a few years from now.

  4. 36 and probably better than Dempster. HOLY [expletive] I [expletive] HATE GAME THREADS It's like arguing with a brick wall.
  5. As opposed to Jim Henry and Lou Piniella deciding that having another .500 season while missing the playoffs in heartbreaking fashion would be just dandy?
  6. I'm looking forward to watching the Bulls. Mizzou football. Badgers football and Bears

  8. It's very frustrating. What the hell happened to the team offense in one offseason? Aaron Miles.
  9. I can't blame Soriano. The cuter the animal, the more delicious it is.
  10. I definitely think he could add a few more pounds of muscle to his body. He's still a bit on the wiry side, from what I saw.
  11. Just letting you know, the Cubs have signed Raley and Burruel. That was my comment from a few weeks ago. I'm still holding out hope that the Cubs can get Sheppard and Whaley.
  12. The problem with Lou walking is that Hendry might be seen as a lame duck GM. What manager would want to come in for Hendry when it would seem like Hendry would be on the hot seat for next season? Logan White as GM would be mighty tempting, though. =P~

  14. When you sign an incredibly raw college player to a major league contract thinking he'll be ready to pitch after playing another season of football (losing an offseason of development) and then rushing him through the system...well, you pretty much know what you're going to get. I was fine with drafting him, but holy hell was his contract and what the Cubs did with him following that stupid.
  15. I'm sure we could convince the Cardinals to let us borrow Jose Oquendo.
  16. Yep! That was a few weeks ago, I believe. I'll tweak it again at season's end, but right now I'd probably do the following... -Vitters from A- to B+ due to the recurrence of his hand injury. His injury history is starting to become worrying. I'd still keep him at #1, though. -Probably will end up giving out additional B+ grades to Jay Jackson, Starlin Castro, and Andrew Cashner in that order if they all keep producing. -Drop Samardzija off the list due to losing his rookie eligibility. -Put Carpenter at B- unless he finishes the season strong in AA. He could rise to a B. -Keep the next few Haku-Ju Lee-Brett Jackson-Ryan Searle-Ryan Flaherty. -Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe bump Brett Jackson from a C+ to a B- if he continues doing well in Peoria. -At #10...geez, that's a really hard one. Maybe Kyler Burke? My gut is that #10 will be occupied by a 2009 draftee, perhaps Kirk or Raley. We'll see about that one.
  17. Remember when people thought Ronny Cedeno could be pretty good at SS? Like that, only slightly better at the plate.
  18. Defensively, I don't see why he can't stick at 2B/3B or even play SS in a pinch when needed. He could be a very good super-sub or even a halfway decent starter at those positions.
  19. I like Buchter. Solid breaking ball by most accounts, looks like a potential LOOGY type. We have enough LOOGY options in the system that we should be able to not spend much on middle relief. Considering we gave up Matt Avery for him, it's a plus, although I'm curious how his stuff plays in the upper levels. That said, with Daytona out of it, I think they'll keep some guys in Peoria that might, in years past, have gotten a bump. I saw him when I went to the game on Monday. He did a pretty good job of hiding the ball and had some decent stuff. Don't know how he'll fare at higher levels, but it was easy to see why he's posted the numbers he has in Peoria.
  20. In terms of who gets hammered, I'm guessing it's equally applicable to the Cubs and their fans.
  21. Oh man, the life lectures from the guy who spazzes out and basically lives here are hysterical. "I'm going to make fun of this guy for being online and posting in a game thread on amessage board on a Wedensday night by being online and positing in a game thread on a message board on a Wedensday night. IT'S FOOLPROOF." Alright guys, you've had it out. Consider this an unofficial warning to let it go and move on.
  22. Thank God we're playing the Pirates after this.
