  1. The number of starting pitchers staying put is kinda insane, if this holds up.
  2. Cripes, this deadline has been ludicrously expensive.
  3. As is, we have marginal upgrades on the bench, in the pen, and maaaaybe the rotation if Soroka is going to start.
  4. Someone check imb's heroin into forehead status.
  5. Neither projects as an ace, but both have had intriguing enough seasons to be possible back end of the rotation types.
  6. Do it all guy who isn't crap at the plate and can give half the position players a breather when needed. He's not a starter, but he's an immediate upgrade over Berti by a country mile.
  7. It's also well within the realm of possibility that Jed put a bunch of take it or leave it offers on the table for teams like the Twins and Nationals which won't be withdrawn until the deadline. Maybe Minnesota and Washington are shopping around trying to get better deals for Gore/Ryan, but if those offers are open, all it will take is a phone call to make it happen.
  8. You know the old saying, if you truly love something with a degenerative ankle issue, let it go, because man, it can't walk far with that kind of a limp.
  9. The Rockies are notorious for keeping quiet at the deadline. The fact that they traded McMahon was kinda surprising.
  10. I feel like catcher has been the Pirates' white whale for at least the last two decades.
  11. Perhaps, but he's begging for future knee/hip trouble if he's a full time catcher at his current weight.
  12. Nah. Bally is the sort of prospect who would be a hard pass for teams that value athleticism and defense. He should have a productive career, but his value plummets if you see him as a full time DH. I'd also take these "X team would NEVER trade this prospect!" statements with a grain of salt.
  13. It will be. I think Gore is going to be better than those two combined over the next three years, though, and he would make a really good case for this team being the best in the NL.
  14. The Cubs have an oddly intriguing group of SP prospects behind the Sanders/Gallagher/Mule tier. Schlaffer, Noland, and Kipp were discussed, but don't sleep on Nick Dean, Jostin Florentino, Evan Aschenbeck, Brooks Caple, and Sam Armstrong. Some of those guys won't ever see the majors, but there's enough depth to merit keeping an eye on everyone.
  15. Yeowza to that return. The one thing the Cubs don't have is a consensus Top 10 prospect. I've seen Caissie in the 20s in some publications and completely off some other Top 100s, but that's the one area where they might struggle to match certain teams.
  16. That's a lottery ticket. Not bad for a useful pen arm with another possible year of control.
