  1. If we're set on trading away Baez and/or Soler, I want to kick the tires on Jose Fernandez. The Marlins have completely [expletive] the bed in dealing with Boras on this one, and would benefit from seeing what they can get for him. Slot him in at #4, let him throw 160 innings, and be ready to throw money at him in a couple of years.
  2. That's supposed to be more enticing than Price and Heyward? Even with Puig, gross. You just added an entire outfield, where do Soler/Schwarber play? No thanks. Soler goes in his Puig trade. That still leaves no room for Schwarbs. With rumors that the Cubs still want to see if he can cut it behind the plate, that's where I have him.
  3. His days as a Dodger are presumably numbered, and I'd be interested in your thoughts on where/how he'd fit in Chicago? Assuming talk of signing both Price and Heyward is realistic, would it be more enticing to look into signing Upton, Zimmermann and Span and trading for Puig? He's also still only 25 years old (in 2016), which is 14 months older than Soler. I'd imagine that payroll would be a much better situation in the 2nd scenario, assuming something like Castro and Soler is what it takes to acquire Puig. Would probably mean adding in the neighborhood of $52M to the 2016 payroll. Scenario A likely means adding around 57 or 58M, right? I realize that would be an immensely busy offseason, but if we're looking at adding a significant amount of payroll, would you rather see it be through paying 2 of the Top 3 Free Agents or would you rather see it be through going a little cheaper via free agency and making a trade for a potential star?
  4. I've read speculation of Boston being willing to send Betts to the Mets for Harvey. I think that's a better deal for Boston than whatever we'd give for Bradley. If they can trade for Harvey and sign Span, you have to like what they're putting together in an AL East that takes a step back in 2016.
  5. 1. Zack Greinke- Dodgers 2. David Price- Cubs 3. Jason Heyward- Cubs 4. Chris Davis- Cardinals 5. Justin Upton- Orioles 6. Johnny Cueto- Red Sox 7. Yoenis Cespedes- Angels 8. Alex Gordon- Royals 9. Jordan Zimmermann- Tigers 10. Jeff Samardzija- Giants 11. Mike Leake- Cardinals 12. Denard Span- Red Sox 13. Kenta Maeda- Diamondbacks 14. Wei-Yin Chen- Blue Jays 15. Dexter Fowler- Tigers 16. Daniel Murphy- Dodgers 17. Scott Kazmir- Angels 18. Ian Kennedy- Padres 19. Yovanni Gallardo- Giants 20. Ben Zobrist- Nationals The only trade I *expect* to see is something like Harvey to the Red Sox for Mookie Betts. I think the Red Sox think they're close to competing in the AL East, and adding Harvey, Cueto and Span may prove them correct.
  6. MLBTR also has an online contest, though I don't want to go with that many guesses. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015-16-mlb-free-agent-prediction-contest
  7. Alright, let's pick the destinations for the Top 20(ish) Free Agents (no contract details... just player and destination.) 1. Zack Greinke 2. David Price 3. Jason Heyward 4. Chris Davis 5. 8. I wonder how much extra the Indians would need to consider sending Bauer to the Cubs? Coghlan plus what? Bauer is a guy that I'm intrigued by, and think a change of scenery will benefit him tremendously. His home splits last year were pretty ugly in just about every way possible. Even though he walked fewer batters at home last year, he appears to have been effectively wild on the road, limiting hitters to a much lower average and securing a nice little WHIP for himself. He was terrible in the 2nd half, so maybe that keeps his cost low? (And I realize I'm dreaming on that part, considering he's not even arbitration eligible until 2017.) Because of walks, he doesn't get deep into games, but if he's our 4th or 5th starter, that's to be expected. What could we give here?
  9. Justin Upton and David Price? Hahaha, yeah, sure. Why not?
  10. Chris Davis and Justin Upton extended QO's.
  11. Didn't see a general offseason thread, but if there's one that I missed, please feel free to move this there. Speculation out that Grienke is about to opt out of his contract ($71M remaining over the next 3 years.) Speculation is also that the frontrunner to land him is... the Dodgers. Suppose they're giving him an extra year with a little more money in order to attempt to drastically lower their bill on the luxury tax? They are currently paying the 50% tax. YOWZA.
  12. I really think Lincoln Riley will have a big time job in the Big 12 or Pac 12 sooner than later.
  13. No one should. Preseason rankings are stupid. Television contracts will be the reason that it never happens, but I'd love to see no polls released until Week 3 has been completed, at the earliest. Week 6 is the earliest it makes sense Ideally, I'd wait until first week of October. I do think networks like having those rankings for marketing, and I don't have a problem with teams having 4 weeks to tell us at least something about their teams.
  14. Arkansas seems to suck. Don't think I'd be very worried there. Auburn getting throat punched today. They're just not good, and Johnson is an absolute dumpster fire.
  15. There was like one guy saying good things and a whole bunch shouting him down for being totally unrealistic (including me). Yeah, but that one guy was doing an awful lot of felating.

  17. reminds me of http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p201/Hosak/Stallings.jpg
  18. Miami is a trainwreck, and Al Golden will likely be out of work before long. At least he won't have to face the embarrassment of his teams suiting up in these atrocities that Adidas calls "uniforms."
  19. It seems unlikely that this front office is going to acquire anyone with a contract requiring any significant financial obligation. The Haren deal (where the Dodgers are paying his contract) should be a prime indicator that this team is saving every dollar it can for an offseason "splurge." I honestly don't expect much of anything from the waiver wire.
  20. "Multiple Minor Leaguers"?!? Ugh. That doesn't mean we gave up anyone good. I'd be stunned if anyone with even a breath of future on this team was moved. Depending on the two guys dealt, I may have overreacted a bit. :D
  21. "Multiple Minor Leaguers"?!? Ugh.
  22. Yes they did. Read the Hamels thread.
  23. So what? So they rebuild it. We're looking at a team next year that is likely going to be anchored offensively by Rizzo, Bryant, Russell, Schwarber, Soler and Baez next year. Why is such a problem if the farm system slips in the rankings temporarily because they bolstered the team by trading for an impact player or two? I'm not complaining, I'm just saying that the Cubs don't really have the prospects to compete with a deal like the Rangers for Hamels without decimating our system. Again: so what? So the farm gets emptied some more temporarily for a fantastic pitcher to bolster a rotation that needs the help and who they have under control for years. Why is it critical they hold on to any of the players you listed? Again, this isn't a vacuum. Would you rather add Hamels at the cost of Baez, Edwards and McKinney, or add Price for nothing but payroll?
  24. That's because you place really bad valuations on the present season and on prospects. Really, really bad. Lol, how so? who is not "worth it" for you in the farm system for a guy like leake or kennedy? I've acknowledged there are guys I'd deal for one of those guys.
  25. You honestly don't know what you're talking about. Having a few really elite prospects does technically make you top-heavy because they're all that matter, but the system was and remains extremely deep on the kinda mid-tier prospects that goober fans love to pine for. I don't care what fans pine for. Fans are irrelevant, and mean absolutely nothing in this conversation.
