  1. There are still various guys not on the verge of free agency who teams could be convinced to move. Washington has Giolito (and Cole, potentially) who could come up and stick, in spite of a "full" rotation. The Mets are in a similar spot. The Pirates might be, as well. The Astros could be an intriguing trade partner, too. I'm just looking below that initial layer of "Pending Free Agents." Looking just below that layer, there are some interesting guys out there.
  2. That's true, and it's good for us. Does a World Series run offset the roughly $10 million in salary you'd owe Braun for 2016? Obviously, it creates issues in 2017 when you still have Granderson under contract. You know Braun is owed like $90 million between this year and like 2021, right? Which is manageable once Granderson comes off the books. Granted, that's not until after next season. But Neil Walker (expendable) and Bartolo Colon (the most expendable) and Alejandro De Aza come off the books next year. That's 23.55 million.
  3. I'm not suggesting Granderson for Braun. I think an arm and a prospect would do it, and New York benefits from that. If you're thinking about potentially using a DH in the World Series, does that 6th rotation arm help you more than Braun? But again, the Mets are broke and cheap. That's true, and it's good for us. 4. Mets are tied for 15th in Runs Scored in the Majors. It's obviously their deficiency, and Braun makes them better in that regard. Obviously, I don't claim to be clairvoyant or think it a foregone conclusion, but I can see why it would happen.
  5. Lol, Granderson is OPS'ing .722 and is 35 years old. Maybe that's why? Is that supposed to be really bad or something? and he's doing that on a .226 babip btw It's worse than 1.044, isn't it?
  6. Lol, Granderson is OPS'ing .722 and is 35 years old. Maybe that's why? I don't see the Brewers (or anyone) likely taking Granderson unless money's coming with him since he's signed through next year. I'm not suggesting Granderson for Braun. 7. The Mets have Conforto-Cespedes-Granderson in the OF, why would they trade for Braun? Plus their owners are cheap and/or broke, they wouldn't take on his contract. Lol, Granderson is OPS'ing .722 and is 35 years old. Maybe that's why?
  8. I am willing to bet he will match up favorably to almost every team's #3. I think you have to look at the Mets and the Nats and have doubts about that, though. Syndergaard (or DeGrom) and whichever arm Washington could trot out give me reason to doubt.
  9. Best ever 30-game Run Differential, according to Buster Olney. The next 4 all won a World Series, again, according to Olney.
  10. I'm willing to let the season play out before I say that, honestly. That's fair, but I'm not. It's hard to look at the Mets and to just *expect* to pound their pitching the way we have been pounding everyone's pitching so far. If you can get a Jose Fernandez, you do it. Soler and Schwarber and Underwood and McKinney be damned.
  11. I do think Braun ends up in the NL East, though I don't know if it's Washington or New York that is the most likely landing spot.
  12. i was never crazy about him (not that this is any kind of spike the football - to steal one of kyle's favorite phrases - moment) but i would be [expletive] amped if we could get fernandez somehow Yes, I'm right back to Fernandez as my dream arm to trade for. Didn't take much for him to get that back. Maybe this is crazy, but explore a 3-way trade with someone like Houston? Cubs end up with Fernandez Astros end up with Schwarber Marlins end up with Soler and Bregman
  13. I'm sorry, but if you can find a way to not hand the ball to John Lackey twice in a 7-game playoff series, you do it.
  14. Watch them deal for CarGo.
  15. No conference should be allowed to have 3 time zones represented among its members. What 3 time zones would there be? The traditional schools are all in the central time zone, and WVU is already in the league as an eastern time zone team. Cincinnati and UConn would both also be eastern teams. Well, if you read the messages I quoted, the discussion was including Boise State or BYU in the Big 12, which would represent Mountain, Central and Eastern Time zones.
  16. H2H Points League, 16 teams. My roster includes Miguel Cabrera, Ben Zobrist, Chris Davis, Adam Jones, Justin Upton, and VMart. My pitching staff is Price, Felix, Hamels, Verlander, Shark, Colon and Shelby Miller. I have Britton, Huston Street and KRod in my bullpen. I am 1-4 after losing to the 3 teams in my own division the past 3 weeks. Not coincidentally, in all 4 of my losses, the team that beat me had their best week of the season that week, and one of them even scored 90 points over his season average. Lol. Fantasy baseball, YAY!
  17. Because they can't keep "protecting" Harper with Zimmerman. I'm afraid that's the takeaway from this weekend.
  18. Don't laugh, but Tulane is a rumor. I guess if you're talking about tv markets. Also hearing Cincinnati. Since region means like nothing these days Id go with Cincinnati and UConn. No conference should be allowed to have 3 time zones represented among its members.
  19. So southern conference voted against, northern conferences voted for. What a random coincidence. Is this sarcasm?
  20. I've seen the "never played in the minors" list, just can't find anything on jumps from A to MLB. Thanks, though.
  21. Arizona had a reliever just make the jump from High A to the Majors (queue "more like High A to AA, amirite?" posts) this weekend, and I'm wondering what other players of note have done this? I know that Jim Abbott went straight from college to the Majors, but are there some other notable guys who've jumped from A to the show and stuck there?
  22. He could be. But when you don't have a backup QB, and he's the only guy you draft, it makes no sense. Unless, of course, you're playing for 2017. Their draft makes sense if they're trying to draft high again in 2017.
  23. Would be an all-time stupid move to have no backup QB and to draft one you intend to play at TE. So, probably. While at Miss State, Dak was groomed to be like Tim Tebow. I suspect his NFL career will be just as successful. That is one ugly passer. Oh, he won't even be on Tebow's level in the NFL. I don't think he has the intangibles, honestly. This pick was just weird. If you're picking him to move him to TE, why on earth wouldn't you draft another QB first? If you're drafting him to keep him at QB, why would you not draft Cook earlier? I just think this pick is ridiculous. So, typical Jerrah.
