  1. Adding young talent is rarely a bad thing. People used to be confused why we traded Shark for another..... SS. They signed the 32 year old Gurriel. He may wind up being decent, but he's not young talent. I wasn't calling him young. I was merely pointing out that I wasn't sure why they added him when they had so much young talent on the roster. Having DFA'd Singleton today, maybe that answers the question, partially.
  2. Owed 4.5 million through the remainder of his contract, so likely to clear waivers and go to AAA.
  3. Bregman isn't going to the OF in Houston. Sounds like they want to move Correia to 3B and put Bregman back at SS. They have such a logjam of young talent all over the place. I really don't understand why they went out and picked up Gurriel when they did.
  4. Hmmmm.... could he be a worthwhile target?
  5. Hopefully, Jed and Theo get some other extensions lined up in the meantime. Yikes.
  6. I'm having trouble understanding your first paragraph, is that talking about Zobrist or Reddick? More to the point, if they trade two outfielders then yes they'll probably want to add one. I'd put good odds against that happening though. Not sure what's difficult about it? It's clearly talking about both. The first half is talking about Zobrist, and the 2nd refers to the presence of Reddick making it feasible to give Ben days off. Of course, I wrote the sentence, so it could just be that what's clear to me isn't always clear to others. Believe me, wouldn't be the first time.
  7. why do you hope this? or are you just saying he'll get 200 walks? Because the guy is going to get 600+ PA if healthy. Yeah, wtf. I get it's probably wise not to push it with Zobrist if they have the luxury. But no more than 450 abs!?! That's like 110-120 games. He should be playing 135-140 games as his floor. That's still plenty of rest. He's averaged a whisker under 140 the past 3 seasons, and is going into his age 36 season. He struggled in the middle of the summer's hot months, and I wouldn't be opposed to giving him more rest during those months. I'm not saying I'm married to the idea, but I wouldn't mind that move at all. Not in a vacuum, of course, but attached to the other two moves I mentioned. (And 450 AB was probably on the low end. My bad.)
  8. Zobrist isn't going to get 450 AB in 2017, I hope. Between a few starts in LF, a few at 2B and the majority of them in RF, let him play in 130 or so games. Reddick allows that to happen while also potentially giving Heyward some days off here and there. Plus, with Soler and Almora going in a deal for Archer/Gray, we'll likely need to sign an OF this offseason. (I'd prefer it be Fowler, but Reddick will come at a lower cost.)
  9. Honestly, if the FO is able to turn Fowler, Hammel and Chapman into Reddick, Archer/Gray and Jansen, I can live with that (with the caveat that Baez is not part of the price we pay for Archer/Gray.)
  10. I don't think it would help a baseball player in the least. Could it conceivably help a football player? Possibly. I've known a handful of guys who played in college, and all have stories of players who used coke on gamedays because of the intensity it created.
  11. Was redflash the Alabama fan? He was slightly cunty.
  12. Damn, those cubbiebum threads fall somewhere near dead center on the "Painful to Entertaining" spectrum. I had almost forgotten about his fantasized interview of Pelosi. Highlight of her career, I'm sure. Meph was an uber-dick, but watching him argue advanced metrics was always intriguing. He may or may not have had me convinced enough on Greene that I went all in on him in Fantasy Baseball for a season or two. My brain has long since flushed many of these guys, but who are some others who stood out as absurd/awful? My nostalgia has been piqued.
  13. MVP. Wow. Couldn't have happened to a better dude.
  14. MY FAVORITE CUB EVER. Right now.
  15. What, you don't think it's fair that MLB's best team doesn't own Home Field Advantage because a Giants pitcher got lit up by two Royals and two Red Sox in an otherwise meaningless exhibition in July?
  16. Going into a series and not having to worry about facing Chapman and Ken Janssen at the end of the Dodgers pen, for example, is something you'd have a hard time putting a value on, though that value would be HIGH.
  17. Why? Maddon doesn't seem to be a guy who plays by the book, and the Cubs could be bringing Chapman in to get the "toughest" 3 outs, as opposed to the "final" 3 outs. He's been doing that job just fine in NY. Why not in Chicago?
  18. The Montgomery trade was exactly the type of transaction I've come to expect from this front office. Giving up Torres and more for the rest of the year of Chapman seems out of character and kind of surprising. If it was just the exchange of named players, I have to believe this would have been done hours ago. There has to be more to it. This just has to be a discussion on who the "+" is, and whether or not an extension is actually in place, presumably.
  19. it's not about not trading torres ever. it's about getting more for torres. Plus, technically, Russell could always leave as a free agent (Boras)in six seasons and we have maybe four years of control on Torres at that point, who then moves to SS after being an everywhere guy his first two seasons. We're talking about what *could* happen in SIX seasons, when we're likely making our bullpen the best in the NL in a season where we have a real chance at our first World Series victory in over 100 years? I just can't go there.
  20. Rumors that Ole Miss is about to get hit with more allegations. 13 for football and 3 for hoops. We will see.
  21. Hindsight: Altuve/Shields: 505 points. Zobrist/Cueto: 619 points. Who knew Shields would be so terrible?
  22. Want to take over a team midseason?
