  1. That won't be difficult with 3 quality long term pieces and 22 others with TWTW. Fixed
  2. I wonder if Rodgers' father is short as well
  3. It amazes me they gave a hockey guy the Cubs beat. I like Jesse and he does great filling in on the air, but goodness he doesnt know much of anything about baseball. Doesn't know much about hockey either. Are we saying that Jesse Rogers is basically the Sam Cooke of sports writing?
  4. Cutler in particular won't play long. Bushrod is sketchy to play, and they don't want to put Cutler out there to get hammered. http://fansidedblogs.net/wp-content/blogs.dir/53/files/2009/08/jay-cutler-drinking-compilation-300x203.png
  5. At what point can we say that Junior Lake is a thing? I realize his current superstar SSS that include a 2.4% BB%, 24.5 K% and .393 BABIP indicates that regression is on its way fairly soon, but what can we take away from his ability to improve at each level? Are there specific examples to point to? Exciting to see another prospect, albeit not a top one, come up and generate a sense of excitement since rizzo and castro have performed below expectations this year.
  6. ‏@BradBiggs 5m #Bears CB Kelvin Hayden tore left hamstring and will miss entire 2013 season. Needs surgery. Hopefully Frey is ready to contribute.
  7. It pretty much works with anybody who's played in the last couple of seasons, even crappy players from crappy Iowa. If you go to shopncaasports.com now, it looks like the search feature has been disabled. My god the NCAA looks just terrible in all of this. What a pathetic organization.
  8. Longest British Open ever
  9. It's weird that you pick out arbitrary stats like 5 games under .500, no lower than third in their division, and a starting point of 1990, which eliminates the '89 Cubs and the terrible Sox teams of the 80's. I mean, if you're 4 games under .500, finish 3rd and 16 games out of first, are you really competitive? Another arbitrary stat- there's only been 7 instances since 1980 where the White Sox have either won their division or finished no further than 5 games behind. Recently, there's no doubt that they've been more consistent along with 2005 title, but they haven't really had the consistent playoff appearances as a whole.
  10. I beg to differ. They are exceptionally fun bad! I love it every day! :twisted: Yeah, this is enjoyable. Apparently they haven't been this bad since 1980, so this is the worst White Sox team in my lifetime. I'd be lying if I said I didn't like it. The Sox have always been competitive. 2007? They've had just as many playoff appearances in the past 20 years as have the Cubs. Granted, it's pathetic for both sides of town, but they haven't been exponentially, 2005 withstanding, better than the Cubs in our lifetime (assuming early 80's on).
  11. crazier to look only at obp .364 .361 .376 .387 .380 .344 .369 .359 http://24.media.tumblr.com/45f0668fbf91495182a19cddd909b375/tumblr_mnxnuujqlE1rg0w2so1_400.gif http://stream1.gifsoup.com/view/46236/head-bang-o.gif
  12. K's are still high- is that a result of being more patient and working into deeper counts?
  13. ?? He was going on about her on twitter. I mean, well, she's pretty good looking.
  14. Same basic team makeup as 04 (04 non-pitcher team OPS was .811), except the 08 team won the division by 7 games and were 10 game clear of the playoffs when they started coasting. 04 missed the playoffs by 4 games. Don't forget that their pythag was like 95 or 96 wins. {drinks windex, resumes crying}
  15. this is great http://www.fangraphs.com/not/ken-harrelson-on-the-banking-industry/
  16. According to Yahoo!, each hit this inning has been "shallow". Are hits just falling in?
  17. Sad story- Former Cub Frank Castillo drowned, passes away at age 44. I remember when he came so close to a no-hitter in the mid 90's. http://www.kvia.com/news/former-mlb-pitcher-el-paso-native-frank-castillo-has-died/-/391068/21230038/-/776yg/-/index.html
  18. While we all agree that Soriano's production was average, or even below-average, given his position, can't we expect some drop-off seeing as though his production is likely to be replaced by Lake's regression and some consortium of the Gillaspie/Sappelt pu pu platter? I think we should also take into account the possibility of Russell and Gregg being dealt, as those two, as much as they have been struggling of late, helped solidify the bullpen in addition to the Guerrier and Strop moves. From an optimist perspective, any lost value in the Soriano trade and potential Russell/Gregg trades could theoretically be covered by bounce backs from Castro (already seeing that in July), Rizzo, and EJax.
  19. That was brutal. Will probably go down as one of the more disturbing sports injuries in history. In case anyone hasn't seen it, Eric Young stepped on the back of his ankle while Hudson was covering first (Hudson's foot was in the middle of the back, Young couldn't really avoid it on the close play) and his ankle basically snapped exactly like you'd expect from a "gruesome injury". How bad when compared to the Jason Kendall ankle injury? It was bad, but not nearly as bad as Kendall, Ware, McGahee, or Lattimore. I would put it pretty close to when that-then Devil Rays pitcher's arm basically snapped when throwing a pitch.
  20. You forced me to go through what the hell happened in 2004. Dear god, that team was loaded. Their pythag was 94-68 {cries}
  21. Yeah. I'd say he's solidly in it. That said, this discussion is really about the top 8, since they're trying to figure out who the 8 are that Parks is talking about. Baez Bryant Almora Soler Alcantara Johnson Olt Edwards It's crazy to look at the top 10 of the Cubs system from July 2011 and July 2013. The interesting thing is that the only holdover major league pieces that have been removed from the organization since Theo and Jed coming on board are Dempster, Garza, Marshall, Cashner and Ramirez (I'm not counting Soto and Marmol as they were both hot garbage). Even if the Cubs did have those guys, the major league team would still be, at best, mediocre. Folks, we're in great shape with Theo and Jed.
  22. Yes. I love him. The deal should be listed as: Edwards, Grimm, Olt, PTBNL. Or: Edwards, Grimm, Olt's potential, PTBNL, Olt's ability to see
