    So nice for the schedule makers to allow this game to start a whole hour earlier since they have to fly home and play a day game tomorrow. The Brewers will get there before us and they are coming from the west coast

    I mistakenly thought Flaherty was a lefty...if that were the case, hitting 2nd is great. But again a righty, I'd rather have him hit lower too.

    The Cubs have not won road games on back to back days since April 30-May 1st against Seattle. They did win consecutive road games on July 4th and July 6th against Pittsburgh/White Sox but there was an off day in between so the previous sentence is a bit cherry picked to make the Cubs seem slightly more futile on the road. Either way, that PIT/CWS 2 game win streak is the only road win streak of any amount since 4/30-5/1 (and technically won the first game of their next road trip on 5/14)

    With this trade we are down to I believe 9 players on the current active roster who played for the Cubs in 2016.... 2 pitchers (Hendricks and Lester) and 7 position players (Contreras, Javy, KB, Rizzo, Almora, Heyward, Schwarber)

    Carl wasn't always a good pitcher (but sometimes he was...really good even) but he seemed like a great person. I will always remember taking my then 6 year old daughter to a game in the bleachers in 2017 (I know, great place for a 6 year old, they were free tix) and during the game we walked down to the area you can see the bullpen guys. I assumed it was a 1 way window but Justin Grimm actually waved at my daughter and made funny faces. Then when we turned and walked away, some clubhouse person came chasing after us with a baseball, telling me that Carl wanted my daughter to have this. I was so caught off guard I forgot to tell the girl to thank him. This isn't necessarily the reason I think he's a good person, he probably does that 10 times a game, but obviously a positive personal recollection of mine. Really hated to see him struggle because I really wanted him to succeed.

    6.57 ERA this year in 24 IP with the Padres 6.11 ERA in 17 IP with AAA El Paso this year Last year his numbers looked a lot better in the majors and minors so hopefully its a mental thing and the Cubs can get him on track. The Cubs used to have a good track record of finding these guys and fixing them into something useful.

    haha I remember when I was looking down on them thinking 'oh how cute the Astros think their rebuild was as good as ours'. At least we're tied in World Series for now.

    Interesting. Guessing that's our big move for the day. I really liked Maldonado's defense behind the plate even though he will end his Cubs career with a .000 BA in 11 AB
