  1. So 2 weeks ago, the message was that our offseason was just starting in terms of transactions. And now it appears done.
  2. I never liked the single game elimination concept at all. I know some love it and that’s fine. I don’t. But at the same time I hate having 14 teams make the playoffs. That would all but ensure some crappy teams make it every year. Though not too crappy, as last years Cubs still wouldn’t have made it but still pretty crappy
  3. Same guy is saying the Bears are offering Khalil Mack in a trade for multiple 1st, 2nd and/or 3rd round picks. And now are talking with the Redskins about moving to the #2 pick. I mean it's pretty far fetched, but seems like he's doubling down on the original rumor because the only way the Bears have the ammo to move up to 1 is if they move Mack for anything close to what they paid for him. Trading Mack to try to get up to 1 would be the boldest move in the history of sports. Well just for fun, the Rams trade for Goff was one of the only ones I could think of that was a trade for a top 2 pick where the team moved up from outside that top 10. That was the the 15th, 2 2nds, a 3rd and a 1st and 3rd from the following year. And neither Goff or Wentz were the prospects Burrow was. So the Bears are lacking the mid first and the 3rd this year, plus whatever else extra it would cost. I guess Mack could maybe get you that, but they'd be eating an additional 4m in cap just to move him and would probably have the worst pass rush in the league after the move. So, I still feel pretty comfortable this is lol crazy. Yeah...this isn’t freaking Madden
  4. Does make me realize how stacked the 3B position is right now. Moncada didn’t make this list either and he arguably had a better season than KB last year
  5. Is he still reporting that the Cubs are still in the mix to sign Harper?
  6. My desire to keep Javy around as long as possible is based 90% on the fact that he's so insanely likable and fun to watch. Not sure he'd be as fun to watch when his quick reaction times and impressive range fade a little with age. Please smart baseball people prove me wrong, but he doesn't appear to be a player that stands to age well.
  7. Honestly the top of the draft looks weak, I think I'll actively root for them to get the 7th pick just for the hilarity of it.
  8. This is going great
  9. Don't they usually just include projections for FAs who havent signed yet under their old teams?
  10. Will be interesting to see what Betts signs for if its with the Dodgers. The rumored deal he rejected was 10 years/$320m from Boston. It's possible he just really really wanted to test FA but might ultimately accept a similar deal, who knows. Either way, its kind of funny that the Dodgers are always there to help whenever the Red Sox decide to dump massive amounts of salary.
  11. I feel like I remember seeing this dude report something Bears related and it being true a few months ago and it not being the first time he reported something correctly
  12. A little less excited than most years, but baseball is still my favorite sport so fairly excited. I've found my sports fandom drop quite a bit across the board though. The only Chicago team I've made an effort to watch a majority of games this year is the Bears but that's mostly because games are once a week, I'm usually just as interested in following my fantasy team along with the Bears game, and several years ago my wife and i came to an understanding that those are 3 hours I'm allowed to get for myself under almost any circumstances. Even the Cubs in like August/September, I was just following the games on my phone and would turn it on for a big moment here and there. Bulls I've probably watched 0.046% of their season. Hawks I turn on games midway through the 3rd period when its close. Basically I've become the type of sports fan that I once despised and could not at all relate to about 10 years ago.
  13. https://www.nba.com/allstar/2020/rising-stars-roster#/ Looking at the USA roster, I am not sure if there is an obvious player that Coby should have been in over. If they went back to the Rookies vs. Sophomores format he probably makes it as there are multiple World players that he is having a better season than. Maybe Trae Young will sit out of the game and open up a spot for White.
  14. I was basing it off his prior comments where he said he didn’t think he would do the dunk contest unless he was picked to be an all star but I saw the recent interview too so I guess he’s changed his mind. Good...this is pretty the first all star game for a non-Sox Chicago team since I think 1991 and have been excited for this. Would have killed a that enthusiasm if there was literally no Bulls presence there Edit: also kind of crazy that the United Center has been open for 25 years and has never held an NHL or NBA All-Star game
  15. It's looking like there will be no Bulls representation at all during All-Star weekend at the United Center which is super embarrassing. No All-Stars in the actual game, LaVine declined the Slam Dunk invite, I don't think any Bull was invited to the 3 point contest, Coby White was not invited to the Rising Stars game. Wendell Carter was but was already ruled out with his injury and replaced by Zion. Because I'm a nerd, I went back and looked at the last 13 All-Star games (except the year when the game was in Las Vegas). In 11 of the 13 years, a hometown player made the All-Star team. In the other 2 years, there was at least 1 hometown participant in either the Dunk Contest or the 3 Point Contest (generally the premiere All-Star Saturday events), and multiple players in the rising stars. So the All-Star game will be in Chicago but the Bulls will be virtually non-existent all weekend its looking like.
  16. If you stay in the 2nd you have to go BPA, regardless of position. The bulk of the value in the higher picks is the opportunity to take BPA, not guys you think can fill a certain need, like Adam Shaheen. For reference, the trade value chart. Both 2nds gets you close to mid round value. But they won't really have anything that can get them the value of a backend 1st. So if they did both seconds to move up to the end of the first round, they could expect to get something else back too in a 2 for 2 swap. https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-Value-Chart.asp Strangely enough, those 2 seconds would get you back the 1st rounder that we traded to the Raiders for Mack
  17. Haven't players historically hit between their coors/road splits when leaving, not strictly at their road splits? Something like that. There's evidence that Coors Field actually hurts their road numbers because among other things they get used to how pitches break in high altitude and there's an adjustment every time they go on the road. FWIW over the last 6 seasons, Nolan has 3 of the top 10 seasons for a Rockies player on the road by wOBA
  18. Officially getting ugly. Trading Bryant might be more about the fact that its looking increasingly unlikely that he re-signs with the Cubs They did lie. They held him down to delay his service time and lied about it. The Cubs should have just offered him a 2 year contract for a little more than what he was projected to make in arbitration, and if he accepted it would have prevented a lot of this.
  19. https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/cubs/kris-bryant-reportedly-believes-cubs-openly-lied-during-arbitration-hearing Officially getting ugly. Trading Bryant might be more about the fact that its looking increasingly unlikely that he re-signs with the Cubs
  20. Couldnt they just lower the number of days it would take to get your first year of service time? Teams do this because they rationalize that being without that player for 2 weeks at the beginning of the season is not that bad. If they had to wait until May 15th to call that player up, I'm guessing that would be less tempting for a team looking to contend.
  21. I’m sure this twitter rant will get him a lot of new clients
  22. Fits the theme of players who have been good relatively recently but sucked in their most recent season thus could be had at a major discount. Also it kind of seems like they've decided to keep the core and try it one more time.
  23. Of course its Nightengale so it could be wrong like he often is.
  24. I'm not too down on the program even if JH doesn't end up a good coach (jury is still out). Top 5 recruiting class assuming everyone signs (which is definitely a bit in question), but the fact that he was hired and immediately got a commit from a guy who wasn't on Michigan's radar before and is higher rated than anyone Beilein ever brought in, another 2 Top 100 guys and have gotten recent crystal balls for 2 other guys in the top 12 of the class, tells me that he knows how to connect with kids and get their buy in. I won't complain if we end up with the Big Ten Calipari.
  25. I've liked Scooter as a target all offseason. He was really good at the plate in each of his previous two healthy seasons. Given our roster, he's a really logical risk. I don't hate it if you accept that the Cubs just aren't going to spend more money so we have to find value for cheap.
