  1. Yep, I never expected anything before then. If they don't come to an agreement on opening day, I will activate a 7 day trial of YouTube TV and start shopping around for other providers that carry Marquee.
  2. Hopefully we see a schedule soon. I could see the Cubs and White Sox playing all 6 of their games back to back. Also, there are two 100 loss teams in the AL central, Sox and Twins win total will probably be inflated in a 60 game season. Wouldn't be surprised if both AL wildcards come from there. I really want to see which AL Central teams we are losing games against in order to play the Sox 6 times instead of 4. If the Cardinals get more games against the Royals/Tigers than we do, that could make the difference in such a very short season.
  3. I shouldn't reward such sheer laziness lol, but 42-18. I have to assume that this was their best 60 game stretch of the year too given the 25-6 start.
  4. Fair points. I guess the fun will be seeing some manager way overthink it like this *cough Dusty* and lead to situations where he's pulling his best hitters for pinch runners in extra innings.
  5. Definitely some strategic changes that we’d have to work through. Are there any fast dudes that are in our system or currently are FAs? Every team should have a fast dude that can play adequate defense. The last out of the 9th is replaced on defense for the top of the 10th and that person I’m assuming will be on 2nd base in the bottom of the inning. Edit: I feel like I sound like Dusty calling them “fast dudes”
  6. I really wanted the expanded playoffs for this year because it would have reduced some of the unexpected outcomes from a very short season. Now 1-2 injuries (or COVID cases) can dramatically alter the season, whereas with a longer season teams can overcome a 2 month injury to a key player. Oh well, just give me baseball.
  7. You can actually do this without repeating a teammate: 2019 Nationals: Kurt Suzuki 2018 Red Sox: Drew Pomeranz 2017 Nationals: Will Harris 2016 Cubs: Dexter Fowler 2015 Royals: Jeremy Guthrie 2014 Giants: Marco Scutero 2013 Red Sox: John McDonald 2012 Giants: Barry Zito 2011 Cardinals: Matt Holliday 2010 Giants: Joe Martinez 2009 Yankees: Robinson Cano 2008 Phillies: Matt Stairs 2007 Red Sox: J.C. Romero 2006 Cardinals: Scott Spiezio 2005 White Sox: Jermaine Dye 2004 Red Sox: Mark Bellhorn 2003 Marlins: Ivan Rodriguez 2002 Angels: Jose Molina 2001 Diamondbacks: Randy Johnson 2000 Yankees: Andy Pettitte 1999 Yankees: Mariano Rivera 1998 Yankees: Jorge Posada 1997 Marlins: Kevin Brown 1996 Yankees: Derek Jeter 1995 Braves: Greg McMichael 1993 Blue Jays: Al Leiter 1992 Blue Jays: John Olerud 1991 Twins: Scott Erickson 1990 Reds: Chris Hammond 1989 Athletics: Mark McGwire Edit: looking at OP list, I didn’t know Rickey was on the 1990 Reds
  8. That’s...really impressive. For those that don’t want to do the math, this goes back to 1902.
  9. George Ofman is still reporting horsefeathers? I havent thought about him in awhile.
  10. It’s all connected
  11. I'm just going to assume he's an anti-vaxxer or something. If he spends much longer in that place, he will be. We need to rescue him ASAP.
  12. Didn’t need all the self righteous, sanctimonious broadcasters/media old guys involved, would’ve liked to have heard from more players. Also didn’t need to hear from the horsefeathering grounds keeper multiple times, or about how Cardinals fans judge fly balls better and the other nonsense. They completely glossed over Kerry Wood and Sammy carrying a very average Cubs team to a playoff birth and just not as much Sammy/Cubs stuff as I expected. Also the screen cuts with modern day crowd shots but showing 98 highlights was, ummm, odd and cheap. Watching this really did make me miss baseball though. I don’t mind them not spending a lot of time talking about the Cubs playoff race, after all this was about the HR race. But if you are trying to tell us how these players felt and what they were dealing with during the year, then yeah there should have been more talk about how Sosa also carried the pressure of balancing trying to get the Cubs into the playoffs with the HR record. Overall yeah the doc was pretty mediocre. Maybe it was more interesting for someone too young to remember the HR race but it didn’t do a whole lot for me.
  13. Random topic of discussion but with the 1998 doc airing tonight I was reading a few things on Sosa and I came across his almost trade to the Yankees in 2000. I vaguely recall these talks but I guess I don’t remember how close it was to being completed. The rumored trade I’ve seen was Sosa for: Ricky Ledee Jake Westbrook Alfonso Soriano Jackson Melian Would you have taken that trade in hindsight, knowing what happened to these players? It might have altered the course of the 2003 playoff run but that’s definitely a very nice return for Sosa, who I believe was going to be a free agent after 2000 or 2001. Those 4 players (ok 3 because I’ve never heard of Melian) and saving the money from Sosa’s next contract (though who knows if they spend that money if it isn’t going to a confirmed draw like Sosa) Cubs almost certainly still get the 2nd pick in the 2001 draft and take Prior, so we may be looking at Westbrook instead of Clement in the 2003 rotation. We get the front end of Soriano’s career instead of the back end and Ledee was a solid enough backup OF. I dunno I’m sick of having no baseball to talk about.
  14. Sucks if we lose the season...either massive overhaul for the Cubs in the winter or we’re looking at one last season for the core as we know it. Also how devastating would it be to launch the Marquee Network during a year with no games? Would also mean no agreement with Comcast meaning their potential audience will be 50% less than anticipated and actual viewership will be like 10% of what they were hoping for. Given how cash strapped the Ricketts pretend to be, they might not even shell out for a Javy extension. I mean would it be that shocking to see a fire sale and a Theoless rebuild kick off because PTR is crying poor? Probably a little extreme but who knows?
  15. I'll give the new Bulls regime the benefit of the doubt (and I like Karnisovas), so maybe moving up helps? Getting pick #7 again would indeed be ridiculous. I hate that the 6 teams outside of the top 16 that get to restart the season will be in the lottery with the 8 teams whose seasons ended in early March (and won't start again until December). I'm completely cool with the Bulls not coming back, I honestly had to desire to watch them again (not that I was watching before) but they get the shaft a bit with no revenue from local broadcasts, not to mention less development time for the players. Not a huge disadvantage but a slight one. I think they should make the lottery only for the 8 teams left out, and give every team 1/8 odds for each pick. The Bulls last 17 games were going to be pretty brutal and there was a good chance they would have dropped before the end of the year. I think they had 2 wins over +.500 teams all year and 11 of their last 17 were against over .500 teams including a west coast trip to play Houston, Denver, LAC, LAL and Utah.
  16. lol It wasn’t a complete puff piece but clearly anything negative about Jordan had to be approved by MJ himself so any critical stuff was tempered. Before eps 7 and 8, there were remarks like “wow I can’t believe Jordan approved this footage” but in the actual episode the negative stuff honestly was spun in a semi-positive light. For example, they would show footage of MJ being an ass, and then immediately afterwards they show a couple of his teammates saying things like “yeah he was an horsefeathers, but in retrospect it worked” The doc was fine, and there was a lot of nostalgia for me. I don’t think there was anything especially revelatory in it for Bulls fans who lived that era, but for younger fans and fans of other teams it really gave some depth to those teams that might have been lost over the years. And because of Coronavirus, this became a cultural event that everyone watched which might rebuild a small amount of mystique for the Bulls franchise that has been lost over years of mediocrity. And the biggest winner is of course Jordan. Millions who never watched him play know of him the same way I did someone like Kareem. It definitely improved his standing in the GOAT argument.
  17. It doesn't matter, because Phil wouldn't come back, and Jordan (claimed) he'd never play for anyone but Phil (until he played for the Wizards, but let's forget that every happened) Right, I'm more referring to what MJ said at the end when he said everyone would have come back including Phil and Scottie if Reinsdorf asked
  18. Anyone honestly believe MJ when he says Pip would come back for 1 year if everyone else was? I honestly think there is no way he is coming back, even if it was like a 1 year $25m contract. That would ultimately cost him money long term as he’d be a year older looking for his long term payday. If it’s a long term deal like what he got in the S&T with Houston, I don’t see him coming back to a team he had been publicly asking to he traded from for at least 4 years knowing that they will likely be rebuilding after year 1. The only way any of this happens is if Krause was fired. Maybe then Pippen could be convinced to come back. I mean he did in fact come back once Krause was fired in 2003.
  19. My favorite 2 moments of the documentary were this and the security guard with the perm beating MJ in the quarters game and doing the shrug
  20. Ayo - 49 Cockburn - 100
  21. I was at that game and I remember leaving the UC and hearing multiple conversations about who our finals opponent would be. In retrospect it was silly to be confident about beating a team with LeBron, Wade and Bosh after one win but at the time LeBron was still looked at as a choker in big moments and the Heat as being too thin to win a championship. Derrick Rose was so good it was like he could will the Bulls to wins and the bench mob could hold their own in spurts against most starting lineups. Damn I miss those teams. Having no real teams in Chicago that are set up for long term success right now sucks.
  22. Just have to hope the MLBPA can come to an agreement on reduced salary. I can already see them digging on their heels after already making an agreement a month ago
  23. They probably won’t announce anything until they see how the KBO does after a couple of weeks. But certainly sounds promising.
  24. Doc has been awesome but I could nit pick something it’s that it’s pretty much a Jordan documentary. Yes I know MJ is the alpha of alphas and his story is compelling and I don’t want to spend any significant time seeing Jud Buechler or Rusty LaRue behind the scenes. I would just like to hear more of this from Pippen’s perspective or Toni’s or any of the other main rotation guys. But again just a little nit picking.
  25. Gonna be soooooo great when the Warriors rest up from March to October, get 100% healthy, get the #1 pick and resume their dynasty with only a short weird season with a tainted championship bridging the 2 eras
