I think its more comparable to the launch angle, high k/low contact changes. People love dongs, people love 3 pointers, but there seems to be an ongoing frustration with the fact that its shifted so much that the focus of the game is selling out for HRs or 3 pointers. I honestly don't have a strong opinion on this but I can understand the argument to some degree as the new emphasis on jacking up 3s does make the game slightly less appealing to me. I've lost interest in the NBA the last few years but I think its more the Bulls sucking than because players run up and down the court shooting 3 pointers every possession.

I didn’t defend Paterno or Sandusky, sooooo.....sure? He didn't say you defended them, just that it's ironic you're going to stop rooting for them after losing 5 games in a row and not after the most disgusting scandal is sports history. Athletic's analysis of the pick: It's interesting that both seem to mostly dismiss the star upside. But then again, we all would admit the upside there but he's a project so relatively small shot of living up to that potential.

Let’s presume that this “major financial stress” is real (and it’s not), how the horsefeathers did we get there? Everyone is dealing with COVID, the network was launched, you own the whole neighborhood, the teams value has literally quadrupled since you bought the team. I don’t understand how you could possible be under major financial stress unless they are incredibly mismanaged and/or they are throwing their money at Trump. Maybe all the renovations and developments put them in debt. But clearly they are poised to recoup all that pretty quickly and it’s not like the Cubs are the family’s only revenue source. I get it, it’s all a bunch of BS, but why are the Cubs crying poor twice as loud as any other team in baseball?

i dont know how much hes going to help the bulls next year. wasnt even a starter in college (very trubisky like lol) and the season starts in like 3 weeks so I bet we see a lot of DNPs early on. Can't argue his upside though. AK went star hunting, and hopefully with Donovan as coach he can develop into one.

Weird to give up an asset like Carter to move up 2 spots in this potentially terrible draft, but I don’t know too much about Wiseman since I assumed he wouldn’t be available at 4 and that if the Bulls did move up it would have been for a playmaker like Ball. I’m not even a big fan of Carter but recognize he’s a decent tradable asset.

Good points. I think you are right about stability being a good thing and not going into that cycle of trying to find the guy and failing (basically what the Bears have been doing for awhile). We know what we're mostly getting from Jed, probably the same approach to team building and player acquisitions with possibly some much needed tweaks.

One of the things I'll miss most about Theo is his advocacy. He seemed like our own internal resistance against the Ricketts politics and wasn't afraid to let his differing thoughts be known. But it was done in a constructive way not a antagonistic way as we see so often in today's political climate. He used his privilege to take action instead of passive commentary. The stuff he did for the Players Alliance was amazing. He got a lot of pub for it but if I had to guess he didn't want his central role to be publicized. He's just a good dude in a world that is in desperate need of them. He didn't just buy a gold coast condo and live in a bubble, he bought a house right in the neighborhood and he became part of the community. This wasnt just a stop in a storied baseball FO career, he took the time to understand the Cubs history and lore, befriended Cubs greats, partied after big wins right in Wrigleyville. I don't think we'll ever see a Cubs President of Baseball Operations have that kind of engagement with the community again. You don't realize how awesome that is until its missing again. I have gripes with some of his drafting, his questionable characters he brought onto the team, some of the moves he made but those criticisms turned my rating of his tenure from a 15/10 to a 14.5/10. Thanks for everything Theo.

Not sure what you mean. Maybe that Bill Walsh quote was treated as gospel more than it should have but i never expected him to last longer than 1 more season. It makes sense given where the Cubs are at that he would leave now. Maybe he would have stayed if the Cubs were spending like they should be, but I'd guess not. Fake edit: Or do you mean PTR caused the ending to the Theo era to be disappointing? i mean that if this team were still winning and TV money were coming in and PTR hadn't chickened out of spending after what happened with heyward (at best, if you give him this much credit), this wouldn't be happening. if this team were still making deep playoff runs and had healthy and big cash flow like the dodgers, there's not a chance in hell this would be happening. he'd be here at least as long as he could collect some more rings. that quote was a convenient line to throw in to address jumping off a sinking ship (which is what he's doing now, as he should), not him laying out the rest of his career. Yeah I certainly think it is a possibility. But at the same time I just think Theo is a different breed. I think he would strongly consider jumping at the chance to take on another challenge after an allotted time period. That said, any chance of that went out the window when PTR closed the purse strings and also the Cubs having like 5 bad drafts in a row.

There’s like 7 teams in the nfl alone, including one in their division. Definitely: Lions Browns Jets Bengals Football Team (won a SB more recently but have been a trainwreck on and off the field for a long time) Maybe/Probably: Jaguars (haven’t been around long enough) Dolphins (at least they had a real offense with Marino into the late 90s) Raiders (meh) Chargers Ok so there’s a few but the Bears are amongst the majority of them. Criteria for this list is proprietary and is inarguably correct

I cant lie, I was cheering more for Dalvin Cook getting fantasy points than I was for the Bears from opening kickoff. It’s not that I’m not a Bears fan, it just feels so hopeless and the Bears seem so far away from even having a clue that I’ve lost interest.

Imagine how much better this season would be if they didn’t have those miraculous comebacks against the Lions and Falcons, Brady remembered it was 4th down and the Bears gave up a TD on the last play of the game against the Giants. They’d be 1-9 and we’d be excited talking about the possibility of getting Lawrence, a new coach and a new GM. Instead we will pick 12th, keep Nagy and Pace and probably bring back Foles for lack of a better option and hope that a healthy offensive line and a 3rd round RB are enough to turn the offense around.
