  1. The other shitty thing about getting such raw prospects is that it means the Cubs have to develop them. Now I know the FO has tried to revamp their development system over the last 1-2 years, but this is still an org that has had virtually no success in developing big leaguers from their draft picks (outside of the 1st round of course). They may be the worst in baseball in WAR from draft picks picked after the 1st round since Theo initially took over. It sounds like things are improving but I'm not exactly at the point where I trust that the Cubs can take raw talent and translate it into MLB success. I'm willing to be convinced otherwise though
  2. Never fear, Blake Bortles is here! The joke would be that this makes the Rams worse, but at least he has a floor as an NFL QB. He's familiar with the playbook already so if he can just make the basic throws he needs to make, I could theoretically see the Rams riding their defense to victory. Pretty similar to basically 80% of all Bears wins.
  3. Also I cannot horsefeathering wait for Tom to give his "we didnt direct baseball operations to dump salary, they did this on their own" BS when asked about what's going on.
  4. I agree with you but couldn't we at least expect a better return? Yes this. If you are going to trade Darvish, fine, but the centerpiece was a less expensive but worse replacement for Yu and then 4 guys who won't see the field for several years. You want to retool, thats fine, but this was a salary dump.
  5. IIRC wasn't there initially concern that Toews would miss the bubble playoffs and people thought he either had COVID or was not going to play because of his concerns about playing during the pandemic? Curious if he was already experiencing these symptoms. It certainly did not effect his play in the bubble at least based on the eye test, though I remember him being a lot of effective in the Edmonton series and kind of faded when they played LV.
  6. Statement from Toews sounds not great
  7. Maybe longer?
  8. Ok I’ll admit it, I was wrong about wanting the Bears to sign Cam Newton last offseason
  9. Lol we trade the best pitcher in the NL last season and we can’t get a top 10 team prospect?
  10. Sounds like they feel confident that the Packers will take care of the Bears for them.
  11. Is anyone doing any payroll tracking this offseason like in years past? Once the trade is done and we know the financials I’d love to see how this affects the teams pretend salary cap for the next couple of seasons.
  12. Sounds like the former: Chicago sports is sooooooooooooooooooooo fun
  13. That's a certainty, there's nothing good coming from this Bears season, they've won too many games thereby, eliminating any chance at drafting a QB. They'll lose to GB in most heart breaking, kick in the balls manner which will enable them to miss the playoffs. Maybe a GB sweep will seal the fate of Pace and Nagy, that could be a good result. Just for horsefeathers and giggles I looked at Jimmy Graham' stats, one could argue he's having his best season since 2017 with SEA, a pro bowl season. Kind of surprising given he had Rodgers as his QB the previous two seasons of course, some no name GB TE is currently having the season of his life. Robert Tonyan. In the interest of being fair to him, the Packers have been bringing him along since 2017, after the Lions discarded him. So good for him for hanging around until he got his chance. I just think he's a product of Rodgers just like many others, and will disappear if he leaves GB. Kind of sick of seeing him make big catch after big catch! Product of Rodgers? Hasn't Rodgers historically been unkind to his TEs?
  14. I wouldn't hate it. I wouldn't love Davies being part of the return as I still don't fully believe in him. But looking at the rest of the return as the delta in performance between Davies and Yu is pretty good, I think. I think getting Davies in the pitch lab would be super interesting.
  15. Was Cronenworth ever considered a highly regarded prospect? I remember thinking I had never heard of him when he was doing well last year, but then again I don't follow other team's prospects all that closely except the top guys. Looking at his minor league numbers it looks like he suddenly figured it out in 2019 and it carried over to his rookie season in the majors.
  16. Interesting. There didn't seem to be a ton of concern yesterday but yeah I'm seeing those reports now. If there's any chance for him to play, I can't see him sitting out with the season on the line, but who knows.
  17. I look at any offensive acquisitions as an attempt to change the dynamic of the offense to be more contact oriented. Myers seems to fit that profile, even though its very likely that last year was more of a SSS fluke (im sure someone here will do the research if this trade actually happens). I probably believe way too much in the pitch factory crap, but it seems to have yielded some great results, so while I know we can't replace Yu with it I do believe we can cobble together a solid rotation. Maybe I'm way wrong, but in terms of building for the future while cutting spending and still trying to be quasi-competitive you're gonna have to take some risks, and this seems like the best place to get unexpected results. Wil Myers has a 27% K rate (more than the Cubs team rate) and is projected for 30% this year. I guess in my really quick research on FGs to make that post, I shouldn't have used Javy Baez as the benchmark to compare him to (I was looking at more of z-contact% and o-contact% rates rather than K rate) Nevermind then
  18. I could be wrong, but I'd imagine the Padres are going to pay a decent amount of it. Possibly, but two years of Wil Myers, even if cheap, isn't overly valuable to us after trading one of the best pitchers in baseball. I look at any offensive acquisitions as an attempt to change the dynamic of the offense to be more contact oriented. Myers seems to fit that profile, even though its very likely that last year was more of a SSS fluke (im sure someone here will do the research if this trade actually happens). 19. I should say that any defense or support of this deal is based on the fact that the Cubs have an artificial spending limit, which I am vigorously opposed to. If the Cubs were actually allowed to spend money to take advantage of a small market division, I would be very opposed to any discussion of trading Yu.
  20. Any chance we take on someone like Clevinger? I know he's out for 2021, but still pre-FA Fake edit: As I say that, I realized he's only under control for 1 more year after 2021 and he'll be 32 when he reaches FA. Maybe would make sense if they could buy out his last 2 arb years in an extension. Maybe 5 years, $55m or something.
  21. I dont mind it . I love Yu but he's our best tradable asset and his long term value is probably better than most 34 year olds, but still limited due to age. I was almost starting to sell myself into the whole 'the NL Central is so mediocre and no one is trying to improve, lets bring most of it back one more time' thought process but sorry if I sound spoiled but there's not that much fun in an 84 win team that gets swept in the first round. I will miss him if he's traded, I really came to love him these last couple of years (beyond just the fact that he was unbelievably good at pitching), but the move makes sense depending on the return. And if any of those players in a return is close to major league ready, we could still compete next year if we get some luck with scrap heap guys in the pitching factory. That said, after graduating a bunch of guys, trading for Clevenger and then trading for Snell, I feel like the return from the Padres is going to be very underwhelming.
  22. Unfortunately the Bears will already be down 35-10 so they won't be able to mount that comeback :D
  23. I hear ya. FWIW Goff claims he hurt it in the 3rd and it didn’t affect his throwing later in the game. Since the Rams won’t have clinched anything by kickoff, he has every reason in the world to try to play and the rams have every reason to win. The bears need to keep the game close so that the Rams have no incentive to look at the scoreboard and take their foot off the gas.
  24. Goff broke his thumb. Someone named John Wolford may be starting for the Rams. Anything can happen but this may be tough. The good news is the Cardinals are sneakily not really good
  25. I was down 5.88 points before the last Packers drive. Adams did not come out the first 3 plays so i figured he was benched for the game since the Packers were up huge. Started congratulating my opponent (barring a miracle with AJB). And all the sudden on 3rd and long he comes out and catches a 27 yard pass. Now I’m down 2.88. Figured that won’t happen again because the Packers were running. Another 3rd and long, pass lofted to Adams who makes an incredible 32 yard catch. Ended up winning by 3 points (also got a 2 point bonus for hitting over 125 receiving yards). Championship won!
