  1. If I had to bet my life savings on the Cubs having the most situations where they had a runner on 3rd with 0 outs and not scored since 2015 I think I would do it
  2. KB failing twice in the clutch while crushing in all other situations. he really is back to peak form
  3. This better not be one of those games where we have a narrow lead and have a runner on 3rd with 0 outs multiple times and don’t score then blow it in the last inning
  4. Figures, Rizzo gets a leadoff triple, probably should have gone on the fly out, shouldnt have gone on the grounder (though I'm sure he was going on contact) and doesn't score
  5. The 7 inning split doubleheader horsefeathers is a fraud. I can understand full price in situations when a game is called in the 6th but this is an avoidable situation. Either play two 9 inning games and charge full price, play a traditional doubleheader with 7 innings per game and charge full price (one gate), play a split doubleheader with 7 innings each and refund 2/9th of the cost of everyone’s tickets for both games.
  6. No such thing as a Leno truther. Just contrarians who probably complained about Leno all through the past 2 years until the day he was cut. Decent portion of the fan base also just seems terrified at "ruining" Jenkins, but most of what I've read has me pretty bullish on his ability to play LT just fine. I admittedly am a bit of a "The Blind Side is Overblown" truther myself though, so YMMV. Plus this Juan Castillo is supposed to be highly regarded for developing O-Line prospects, so time to put it to test. There's no denying the Bears line improved over the course of last season so I have high hopes for what he can do with the new guys.
  7. Most teams still seem to want to put a vet up those first few games. Even from last years class, I think Burrow was the only day 1 starter. But teams will make it very easy for their starting vets to be Wally Pipp'd. Oh Dalton had a hang nail before week 5. Guess it's Fields' job now. Yeah I just worry about the fact that Nagy was on the Chiefs when they sat Mahomes his rookie year (besides Week 17). He's already alluded to this in press conferences.
  8. I'm obviously very interested to see how the Bears work in Fields. They are talking like he's gonna sit out the entire year, but I just can't see that happening. I know this was common 15-20 years ago for a new QB, but other than Mahomes I can't think of too many examples of 1st round QBs sitting an entire season before playing. And the Chiefs were a contender without Mahomes so that made sense. The Bears will not be with Dalton. A good draft and a new franchise QB doesn't automatically take a HC and GM off the hot seat so they need to win now.
  9. What do you think they will do with that cap room? Or did they need it in order to sign their draft class? I suppose holding onto it for an extension would be a good idea, or maybe to work out a long term deal with Allen Robinson
  10. Carrying on from the game thread discussion. I have honestly not found the games to be more enjoyable or exciting just because someone starts the inning on second base. Most extra innings games end by the 11th or 12th anyways, and the ones that go beyond that can be a slog but give us a lot of 'baseball is strange' moments that are fun and memorable. Also trying to look at it in a neutral baseball game perspective since Cubs games bring different types of emotions than watching a random Mariners-As game. I don't think I've watched more baseball than normal because of the rule. I don't hurry and flip on a game I notice is in extra innings, though in the past I've definitely thrown on games where I see its in the 15th inning or something. Just seems like a gimmick that was introduced to fix a problem that didn't exist and it doesn't, at least to me, make the sport anymore exciting to watch.
  11. its horsefeathering dumb made up BS. Everyone will learn to accept it just like they do shootouts and then 3-on-3 OTs in hockey, and the bizarre CFB OT rules. But that doesnt make it any less dumb. the hockey rules are also great in the regular season. stop being a stick in the mud and try to recognize fun things 7 inning double headers are also a great idea dude i dont find it any more enjoyable to have a runner on 2nd to start an inning. It's dumb. NHL OT format changed because most 5 minute OTs were ending in ties. Most extra inning game are resolved after 1-2 extra innings. The ones that arent are honestly more enjoyable to me because quirky horsefeathers happens
  12. its horsefeathering dumb made up BS. Everyone will learn to accept it just like they do shootouts and then 3-on-3 OTs in hockey, and the bizarre CFB OT rules. But that doesnt make it any less dumb. It's fixing something that wasn't broken. Was there a giant groundswell of people complaining about extra innings previously? Sure Manfred is obsessed with the length of games but only like 5% of games go to extras so its not exactly hurting the game. I don't think there are any casual fans that think baseball is more exciting because of it. I don't see the benefit...preserve your pitching staff sure, but we've been dealing with it for 100 years, its not that big of a deal, call someone up from AAA.
  13. But yeah extra inning rule is terrible. Such a fun back and forth game and the ending was a complete dud. Passed ball and then a single that goes through because the IF is forced to play in. Game had 10 HRs and it ends like that. Yes the Cubs could have scored in their half but still. It’s a stupid rule
  14. 7 inning double headers are right there with it.
  15. Javy and Rizzo were only thinking HR in their ABs
  16. Which teams can you definitively say the Cubs are better than? The Tigers. I think that’s it. You can make an argument for any other team.
  17. Narrator: we did not get a shutdown inning
  18. Lol 1 strike from getting out of it and he hits him
  19. Yeah so far the gambles have all gone the wrong way and the one pitcher you felt you could rely on has gone south at all. Jake has been fine outside of Friday and Alzolay has been encouraging but outside of that yikes is right
  20. Cubs starters came into today with a .354 wOBAa which is dead last in baseball by .008. Other stats of note: SLG - 28th .468 (.004 behind last) OBP - 30th .347 (.005 “ahead” BA - 29th .268 (.001 behind last) ERA - 30th 5.70 (tied for last with LAA, 28th best team has a 5.28 ERA) Great stuff
  21. Too lazy to look up but our starters ERA has to be bottom 3 in baseball right? Almost like when you trade your best pitcher and do not resign 3 other starters and replace them with nothing of note, bad things happen
  22. I think Jed was trying to get a Scott Feldman like performance out of Trevor Williams, but I can tell you right now that teams are not going to be lining up to trade for him in July
  23. Bears-centric but it’s an Athletic article that grades the entire draft in a few different ways. While the Bears only got the 13th most value out of their picks (mostly due to only having 2 picks in the first 4 rounds), they by far had the best ROI, and 2 of the 4 biggest steals in the draft (Fields being the biggest) https://theathletic.com/2561074/2021/05/02/the-consensus-big-board-ranks-the-2021-nfl-draft-classes-and-finds-the-biggest-steals-and-reaches/?source=user_shared_article
  24. Draft grades, on draft night, for 6th rounders are tough to take too seriously, but CBS is grading every pick of the draft and they gave the Bears 6th round picks grades of A-, A, A+ And they are not overly generous graders. Of the 43 picks in the round, only 8 were given A grades, the 3 Bears picks and 5 others. Here are all their grades and write ups: 7 picks, 5 were A's, lowest grade was B- which was their 7th round pick. Again draft grades are draft grades but at least one website absolutely loves the Bears draft.
