  1. Bullpen comes in and immediately gives up 2 HRs
  2. Starting next year with Stroman, Steele, FA, Hendricks, Keegan with a handful of alternate options if Hendricks continues his decline actually sounds pretty damn great right about now.
  3. Maybe I’ve read too many “a league source says” stories but the perception out there seems to be that Smith is a very good, not great player at a non-premium position. It would be beneficial for him to prove that he is great going into FA or a franchise tag. not saying that will happen with a guy who is said to have maturity issues and is operating without the guidance of an agent but it makes all the sense in the world for him to ball out.
  4. I was thinking the Cubs had a tough matchup today against Woodruff but then realized that Steele has a lower season ERA with more IP
  5. Remember our old friend jamfan? Not taking this well
  6. It’s been pretty fun this month. Obviously it sucks to miss out on a top pick but I don’t hate the potential outcome of the Cubs playing well to finish the season and getting a lot of positive momentum going into the offseason. 2 of the big SS FAs (Correa and Turner) have already come out and said they aren’t going to a rebuilding team. Hopefully a strong finish gives the appearance of a team that’s not too far off.
  7. That kind of loss would make me so mad if it happened to the Cubs. Had a huge late HR to take the lead, then had a chance in 3 straight innings to end the game and blew it all 3 times.
  8. horsefeathers I don’t care if he’s walking after the year and is costing us draft position, I’m so horsefeathering happy we kept Willson Cubs win again. 11-4 in last 15
  9. Apparently he's just gonna play. No extension or anything? I'm guessing Poles set a deadline where if he didn't return to practice they would start fining him (or possibly even fining him for past missed practices). His trade demand probably stands but Poles doesn't have to fulfill it. Or maybe Smith reached some agreement where the Bears would try to trade him around the deadline and/or agreed to not franchise him after the year. Who knows. Weird situation all around. If the Bears are going to suck this year and he can be a UFA (unless franchised), I'd rather just trade him then make him play a meaningless season and walk.
  10. Strike 1 and strike 3 were great pitches. Probably should have been protecting the plate on that last one though. And the swing on the ball in the dirt wasn’t pretty.
  11. Agreed. I didn’t expect them to actually score until that ball cleared Wong’s glove, but the entire inning have been riveting. Several great ABs
  12. Wow that scrappy little dude Nicky 2 Strikes lived up to his name. Blown save on Williams
  13. Roquan’s back. Just don’t know why yet
  14. More like Rowan Dick
  15. What the hell was that Wick? Absolutely perfect pitch to crush on a 3-1 count and he does to spoil a fantastic performance by Stro today
  16. Bet the Brewers wish Willson was traded.
  17. It looks like there's a window to get at least 5 innings in but I wouldn't be opposed to calling it and letting the Brewers bitch about it.
  18. Cubs win! Now 8-6 against the Brewers on the season. After years of being good but sucking against them, we're now bad but good against them. 10-4 in our last 14 games
  19. random question but how are Brewers fans handling the fact that Christian Yelich is nowhere near as good as he was when he was cheating? They gave him a huge extension after a couple 7+ win seasons, and now he's a 1.5-2.5 win player. That's gotta suck.
  20. Back and forth we go. I'm assuming the wind is blowing out today?
  21. Keegan Thompson is now the only person in the Cubs current rotation with an ERA above 4. He entered the month with a 3.16 ERA. Edit: Back down to 3.99!
  22. If they dont want to shut him down can they move him into the pen for some infrequent long relief appearances or give him a short IL stint to rest his arm? I'm guessing they know what they're doing but he just seemed cooked out there his last handful of starts even when the results haven't been bad.
  23. Feel like the constant pressure also led to the end of the drive with that dump off for a loss. He read blitz on the weak side and tried to get rid of it anticipating pressure, but the blitz never happened.
  24. Damn, only 6-10 snaps? Isn't the 2nd preseason game basically the 3rd preseason game in the past? I don't expect to see the starters in the 3rd game (but maybe I'll be wrong). With a new offensive system, tons of new players, young QB etc. I would have expected more than 3-4 drives from the 1st team offense all preseason. That's less than even Nagy gave them (albeit he had 1 more game to play with)
  25. Seems like you pissed him off Really pissed him off
