  1. Not that wins and losses matter right now but seems like he punted on one game to have a marginally better shot at another game. Who is all that compelling that the Cubs would want to use this weird exemption to call up? Kilian pitched today (and got shelled). Based on his tweeting history it doesn't sound like Wesneski will be able to go to Toronto (unless he's against vaccinations but ended up getting it for baseball reasons). Edit: Saw some discussion a couple of posts up. Sounds like it makes sense.
  2. Would this help us win in 2023? I'm not even sure what a deal would look like. Obviously going to be way underpaid in 2023 but is then a UFA. Given that some reports suggested the Cubs were Ohtani's second choice after the Angels, I'm sure he'd be more than willing to sign an extension, but the Angels are clearly going to want a haul for him. Is Davis or PCA, Steele, C. Hernandez and Mervis for Ohtani too steep?
  3. In case you were wondering who might take Steele’s start in Toronto:
  4. Blah blah blah preseason. Fields had a 92.6 PFF grade yesterday and 90.4 for the preseason
  5. Well for one its 49th out of 50 states in vaccination rate.
  6. Not sure how that roster projects to average offense. They are below average this year (20th in wRC+) and are massively downgrading at catcher (offensively), and probably breaking even at CF (with the position shuffle you are basically trying to replace 1B production this year). You hope that Seiya and Madrigal improve and a full season of Reyes (who I'm not necessarily sold on yet). Overall I think it projects to be worse than this year, but I'd be open to arguments on the contrary.
  7. Ross (or was it Jed) did say last week that 3-4 were likely to miss the series. That would make sense. Edit: making generalizations here but but Keegan is from Alabama too and was on the fence for going on the IL when that 3-4 comment was made and has now since gone on the IL
  8. https://twitter.com/fieldspick6/status/1563930674133975040?s=21&t=tBQz1g7GXfQ6gIRDXN9WIQ Not sure if these are actual PFF grades so take with grain of salt
  9. They seriously tanked for 3 seasons to get this. They still have the ability to salvage their core but it’s not gonna be easy.
  10. And another TD pass. Fields has had time to throw the last 2 drives and he’s made the throws. Not sure if he’ll even end up playing the half at this point.
  11. Hell yeah Fields! Perfect
  12. First drive was terrible. Second drive the line is giving fields time to throw and he’s running bootlegs and looking good
  13. I’ve only heard lower back tightness which is not ideal but far from worst case scenario I guess. He’ll probably go on the IL On the topic of Steele: Also he’s starting to get a name for himself. Here are some Brewers fans before the game lamenting having to face him again:
  14. 4 runs on 2 hits is not that bad too. Hopefully we can keep the lead this time
  15. Damn I really wanted a 1 hit win over the Brewers
  16. And Steele leaves the game hurt
  17. Cubs are 9 outs away from being no-hit. Peralta only at 82 pitches too so he may be able to complete it. If the Brewers get the no-hitter they will pull into 2nd for most no-hitters pitched at Miller Park (or whatever it’s called now) behind the Cubs
  18. Ok you can’t blame me for jinxing it 3 innings later
  19. Looking forward to him getting shelled next inning and being shamed
  20. Steele, Rucker, and McKinstry are at the top of my list. I was totally going to say McKinstry and Rucker. Based on them saying 3-4, I'm wondering if one is a fringe roster player.
  21. Goldschmidt is now 1 HR away from leading the NL in BA, HR and RBI. He's 35 years old, and the previous oldest Triple Crown winner was 31. He's 4 full years older, but he's got that Cardinals devil magic in him.
  22. Place your bets now.
  23. After his long outing last week he gave up 3 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks in the 1st inning. Corey Dickerson has now had 9 hits in his last 9 plate appearances.
