I think the confidence about the starters was that we felt good about have 3 #2-3 starters in Stroman, Steele and Taillon, we were excited about Wesneski's upside and though Smyly would be fine for a number 5 starter. And then we had Hendricks coming back which people weren't expecting a ton, it gave us another option.
What we didnt expect is that Stroman and Smyly would completely implode at the start of June and in Stroman's case then be injured for the rest of the year. Didn't expect Taillon to be terrible for the first 3 months and then ok for a bit but still not really pitching like a number 3 starter often enough. And then Wesneski completely pitching himself out of the rotation by May
Steele has been better than expectations and Hendricks right about where we expected him to be.
