  1. Yup, that's what doomed the Indians of the mid-90's. They should have been trading for guys like Cecil Fielder and Robin Ventura instead of holding onto those bum prospects Manny Ramirez and "Joey" Belle Edit: And man, if only the Braves decided to strike it big with Charles Nagy and David Cone, they wouldn't have been doomed to years of mediocrity with John Smoltz and Tom Glavine.
  2. soriano's putting up a .361 OBP this year. Yeah, but does he walk? 10 more than each of the last 2 full seasons. 43 BBs in 399 ABs. About 70 points difference b/t AVG and OBP. It's amazing how much easier it is to walk when you are hitting HR's left and right and are surrounded by Vidro and Johnson rather then Teixiera and Young
  3. soriano's putting up a .361 OBP this year. I'm referring to last year.
  4. The only issue I have with this deal is that MacDougal just came back from spending the entire year on the DL. That and the hat problem that was illustraded on BBT the other day. The Royals might have brought him back too quickly to showcase him for the deadline.
  5. I was off the Soriano bandwagon last year because I could see that our glaring problem was OBP and defense. Soriano provided neither. The other reason I was off of it beacuse I thought we could find a bigger name and/or a better fit. We got Matt Lawton.
  6. This thread title should be "D-Lee on the Dee-L" or "D-LEE on the D-EEL"
  7. Well when you're allowed to just assume things like the comments in parantheses, it sure works well. If Buehrle continues to have a down year (like he is) Contrares Garland (up and down, up and down = question mark) Vazques (not good at all this year) Garcia (not good at all this year) If I make those parantheses, then I don't see giving up McCarthy for a rental as as good an idea as some of you do. Historically, Buerhle is better then he pitched. I will give you that he has in the past had a random off season that to my knowledge was never quite explained. Garland is up and down, for long stretches. We have seen him pitch brilliantly for as long as a half of a season. He looked terrible the second half of last year and the first half of this year. It's more of a stretch than Buerhle, but its certainly very plausable that he's put it together for the second half. The other two suck of course, but you only need one of them to be decent to be alright in the playoffs. Bottom line is that the White Sox are turning into a juggernaut. They had a pretty good farm system that their latest success has caused them to abandon ship to win now. Well they have one WS in their hands and are threatening for another one. This is the winning now mentality that they have.
  8. Seems like only yesterday it was US making the big deadline deal two years ago. People were saying the same thing about the Cubs with the acquisition of Nomar. That was before Hendry's labotomy
  9. Iguchi, 2B Soriano, LF Thome, DH Konerko, 1B Dye, RF Crede, 3B Pierzinski, C Uribe, SS Podsednik, CF Buerhle (will pitch better) Contraras Garland (lights out right now) Vazquez (better then 4 of the Cubs 5 starters) Garcia (see above, only need 3-4 in the postseason) Cotts MacDougal Jenks Looks good to me
  10. Stupid coaching staff still made the final decision. Shouldn't let a player who has never been seriously injured and doesn't know how his body would respond with his wrist not at 100% make the decision.
  11. Sox have certainly showed who the better, more powerful, dominant and better organized team in Chicago is
  12. Sweet...way to bring him back early, idiot Cubs coaching staff.
  13. Well time for another World Series in Chicago. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2528494
  14. I agree, like I said its not the most important issue. I am really not an expert, so I can't really judge how many runs it has cost the Cubs. It maybe only be like 5 runs for all I know. I'm not saying that we should go out and get people who play D and not focus on their offense. Give me Carlos Lee and Bobby Abreu in the offseason and I am not complaining. But I dunno, I'm just sick of seeing Juan Pierre three hop the cutoff man, and then watching not only the runner score, but the hitter get to third and lead to another run. Murton as we know has been pretty terrible in right, and Jones seems to forget to use his brain a few times a week out there.
  15. Is there anyway to quantify how bad our OF defense is? I was just thinking that this is one area where we HAVE to improve next year. First of all, there isn't one OF on this team who has anything better then a below average arm (power and accuracy). Other then Pierre, not one OF has average range. How many extra bases have the opponents gotten because of this? How many extra runs have been scored? I don't think enough emphasis was placed on defense last offseason, despite Hendry's supposed desire to look for people who can 'catch the ball'. The problem is, defense is so hard to quantify, and when you can quantify parts of it, people don't think its important enough. Honestly, we need help in all 3 main fascets of the game, probably moreso then defense, but it shouldn't be ignored completely. Anyone agree or have any additional insights?
  16. Those who say that Pierre will stay....have you considered the fact that Pierre won't want to stay? He hasn't been given a great impression that the Cubs are going to be good anytime soon. *apoligize if this has already been brought up, I only read the first page*
  17. Give him 2 months with our coaches, and ARod is toast Nice sensationalist article Phil
  18. maybe they should just give the Cubs Soriano for nothing... that would make all of us Cubs fans happy, no? If you would ask the Cubs organization, Murton and Walker would practically be nothing to them.
  19. I don't think it would be wise for Hendry to risk his GM tenure to likely overspend the Yankees for a 39 year old, ex-steroid user who is sure to be suffering from diminishing abilities any day now.
  20. this isnt true.. i have hope for 07 Unless Hendry starts talking about plate discipline, I dont see it happening
  21. I love how pretty much people have no hope for 2007. I don't either. Nice job Hendry. Anyways, is that all the changes we need to make to our pitching? One starter and thats all?
  22. Not if you have a laptop or your computer is in the same room as your TV. Edit: See Game Threads Forum
  23. Let's just not start a game thread tomorrow
  24. Wait, I don't get it....now we are ripping on Dusty for not sacrificing enough?
  25. Wow, this is such a bad team. I don't really know what words I can used to describe it other then bad.
