With all due respect to the Brewers fans, and I do respect the Brewers and their fans and how they built their team. It's really something to envy, but certain Brewers fans over there say that we can't make fun of the Brewers for futility because our futility is worse. Now this season may wipe this point away, but going into this season, that is in no way true. While compared to teams like the Yankees and Cardinals our futility may look the same, when you compare in a smaller circle, the Brewers have had the much worse history. Last playoff series win: Brewers - 1982, Cubs - 2003 Last playoff appearence: Brewers - 1982, Cubs - 2003 Number of playoff appearences since 1980: Brewers - 2, Cubs - 4 Last winning season: Brewers - 1992 (2005 doesn't count, they finished .500), Cubs - 2004 Last World Series - Brewers - 1982, Cubs - 1945 (OK thats one futile mark). But again, to any Brewer fans reading this, I realize there are reasons why this is the case (higher payroll being a huge one). I'm just saying that compared to the Brewers, we look like a mildly successful franchise. And for the record, we care much more about the Cardinals and then White Sox than we ever will about you guys, unless we are competing in the division race like this year. But I hope for a good race in the coming months! Hopefully your futility is changing for the better, and if the Cubs fall short, I will be rooting for the Brewers in the playoffs. You guys deserve it.

Sell me on Epstein. He has a WS title, but he also has a huge payroll to work with and a lot of his FA acquisitions (Lugo, Drew, Clement, Renteria, etc) have been questionable at best. Even the Nomar trade that netted him Orlando Cabrera he seemed to get lucky on as Cabs sucked with Montreal (I remember most on the board wanted nothing to do with him when he was rumored to come here). He also waited forever to trade Hanley Ramirez and then finally traded him away for less than what he got back arguably.

Does it worry anyone that for the first time in 10000 years that the Cubs are getting cash considerations from the A's? The BIG market Cubs are getting cash from the TINY market A's.... Despite all the crap about the Cubs being able to take on payroll, for the first time in my (short term) memory, the Cubs are taking on money in a trade. My guess is that in order to get the cash strapped A's to fork over cash, the Cubs had to throw in Blevins....

He's been terrible this year, but quite good each of the past few. He is getting a bit old, but as a rental I'm ok with this. Plus we didn't give much up. .709 OPS in 2006, .666 OPS in 2005. Thats quite good?

Who would you rather have Kendall or Bowen? I guess its not that bad. Kendall is known to handle pitchers well and has shown good numbers as recently as last year...
