  1. Zambrano (eat 50% of salary), Prior, Marmol, Pie...are we getting somewhere?
  2. How do you figure? Other pitchers have had similar surgeries to Prior and came back to regain form. I forgot the prime example...wasn't it Chris Carpenter? I'm not saying to expect ANYTHING from Prior. He could easily never regain form. But to completely dismiss him as a middle reliever I think is a bad idea.
  3. Approximately 140 days give or take 2-3
  4. I hated the Soriano signing from day 1, but if the Cubs weren't going to sign Soriano, they were going to throw their money elsewhere. Where would you have wanted them to throw it? Zito? Schmidt? Drew? The only player I'd argue is Carlos Lee. There was no way that Hendry was going to wait the season out and try to sign ARod this offseason...mostly because he wouldn't be around to sign ARod.
  5. There is talk that they will not resign him. I say no on a 39 year old relief pitcher that will command more than market value because of his name
  6. Found the Blue Jays and Tampa Bay tentative schedules. Tampa Bay's schedule lists 6 straight days to play the Cubs, so I am assuming that there is an error and we will only play 3 of those days. We will also be visiting Toronto. Check the first page for dates
  7. Red Sox up 2-0. I want to see the Red Sox and Indians win today because I will feel better if all losing teams got swept in the first round
  8. I get what you mean by this, but honestly with the money these guys make they would have bought those tickets and just tossed them had they won, without even batting an eye. That and they probably had someone else in charge of that for them anyways. Yup that's true. He is probably also pissed that the Cubs players booked town at the first chance they got while we have to sit here and wallow in the patheticness of the Cubs
  9. I just called tickets.com and they said that while it says what it says on the Cubs website, they haven't heard official confirmation from the Cubs as to how they are going to refund the 'print at home' tickets. They said sometimes, teams will just refund the credit card. They told me to call back Monday or Tuesday if we don't hear any offical pronoucement
  10. Jim Hendry might attempt to trade himself Marmol, Hart and Pie for him until he realizes that Pie is a player and not a dessert OMG A HENDRY FAT JOKE!!!!!
  11. We all have the theory that the Cubs are not going to be spending much if any money in the offseason. And we all know with the backloaded contracts the Cubs have, their payroll is going to go up about $20 million even if they did nothing. So the question I have is, is this theory correct? Is there any realistic way to imagine the Cubs going out and spending yet again to get the pieces they need to get better? Are there examples of ownership changes in the past that both the new owners and the old owners had an agreement to spend X amount of dollars to build the team while ownership was in the process of changing hands? I am just curious because I think that people are being unrealistic if they are talking someone like ARod. I think a role player or two (possibly a fill in if Pie doesn't pan out) is all we can really expect without making a trade, but I wanted to see if there was any precident for this.
  12. Better start pleding money to the Cubs if you want them to sign some of the people you guys are talking about. I just cant see any way that we spend more then a few million to improve the team this winter. There is no way either the Trib or their new owners are going to allow a ton of money being spent while the ownership is changing hands, even if the new owner was completely OK with it
  13. Wow that was an ignorant comment. As for my reaction... Im depressed, but not surprised over the outcome. yea, since seth isn't a jew or anything. How is he supposed to know that? I wish I heard back from Vance last night so I could have watched the drunkenness unfold.
  14. I think your missing the intentional humor in this thread...
  15. Leaving right now for Sluggers to have a beer with the guys assembled and then to the game. Please don't let this be the end. I want to watch the Cubs and Bears tomorrow.
  16. The only difference is the Yankees threw a broken down Kevin Brown. The DBacks would throw Brandon Webb Thats really the only difference you can think of? How about ARod, Jeter, Sheffield, Matsui, Posada? The 04 Red Sox were better than us, but those Yankees were a hell of a lot better than the D-backs. The point is, Brandon Webb can shut down the Cubs offense. I'd feel much better hitting against a broken down Kevin Brown
  17. yep, hit the nail on the head... that is the last thing any of us wants to see...please don't let them do this to you cubs Yup, we've seen that all too often. The 1998 Braves and 2003 Marlins celebrated on our home turf, and I believe both the Cardinals and Astros clinched their playoff births on our field in 2005
  18. The only difference is the Yankees threw a broken down Kevin Brown. The DBacks would throw Brandon Webb
  19. I think none of them will. But if you asked me which team has the best chance of at least winning a game, I'd say the Cubs
  20. WTH is up with those bugs?
  21. Gotta go with what got you there. We are going to bring back Koyie Hill??
  22. Actually , Buckner WAS harrassed in Boston for quite awhile after the ball went under his glove that year against the Mets. In fact if I'm not mistaken, he and his family moved away from the area due partly to the fact that his family was having to deal with crap from people as well and he didn't want them to have to deal with it. Last interview I recall seeing was a couple years ago and although he sounded like it was all "in the past" and he didn't really think about it much, I also got the feeling he's never forgiven the people of Boston for their treatment of him and his family. I believe he was invited to Boston for the celebration of the 2004 WS as some kind of "all is forgiven" gesture and his response to it was more or less "go F yourselves" and he never did come back for it. The only thing I did hear is that he finally agreed to sign photos of the ball going under his glove and he meets up with Mookie Wilson now and then at different functions to both sign the photo - I think his comment was something along the lines of "It doesn't bother me anymore, and if I can make money off signing them, fine with me." Yeah the reason why its in the past and he doesn't care is because he lives in like Montana these days. Besides, Buckner had much more to do with the Sox losing the World Series than the Cubs losing the NLCS, if only because he was actually a player on the field. While the Sox could have easily lost the WS without Buckner's error, it certainly did not increase their chances or even keep that at status quo.
