  1. Interesting, they are planning on having the Cubs win at the DBacks game by winning their 3 games by 1 run each and having the DBacks score more runs overall in the series with a blowout in game 2.
  2. I posted this in the game thread I had a dream last night about watching the game. It was 2-1 Cubs in the 6th when, for some reason, I decided to start watching Forest Gump on USA Network. So I am watching for awhile when I realize that I forgot about the Cubs game! So I flip back over, and to my shock it is 33-27 Diamondbacks in the 8th, but the Cubs had the bases loaded and 0 outs. Gosh I hope my dream doesn't come true.
  3. Honestly, this matchup scares me. Something tells me Z's like will be like 7IP 3 H 2 ER 8K 4 BB and Webb's line will be like 7 IP 2 H 0 ER 9 K 1 BB. But don't fret if we lose game 1 to a staff ace guys. There are multiple examples of teams getting shut down by a team's ace and then coming back to win the next 3 games. 2 games I can think of are Johan Santana dominating the Yankees in Game 1 (in New York no less) and the Yankees winning the next 3 (I think in 2003) and Jason Schmidt dominating the Marlins in 2003 and the Marlins coming back to win the next 3. So be worried, but don't freak out if the Cubs drop this one.
  4. You should have looked closer. You actually had switched over to the Bears/Packers game, LOL. Umm, you really think the Bears offense can score 27? Agree with others, Theriot should be nowhere near the 2-spot. He just seems like someone Webb can dominate. A hitter that likes to hit ball high in the zone...ugh
  5. What happened to Z's sinker that he used in 2003 and 2004? Was it even a sinker or just his normal split-finger? Did he drop it in order to become an all around better pitcher or to become more of a power pitcher? Zambrano in 2003: GB/FB ratio - 2.28 HR allowed - 9 IP - 214.0 Zambrano in 2007: GB/FB ratio - 1.37 HR allowed - 23 IP - 216.1
  6. Anyone know of any drink specials in Wrigleyville tonight? The only one I've heard about is Redmonds is doing $10 buckets and $0.50 wings. I don't want to go to Redmonds. It is a Vikings/Badgers bar.
  7. To think that yesterday, I left a bunch of work for today thinking 'the game is at 9pm, I'll be able to keep my mind off of it all day'
  8. I had a dream last night about watching the game. It was 2-1 Cubs in the 6th when, for some reason, I decided to start watching Forest Gump on USA Network. 9. So looks like Lee Ramirez Soriano Soto Theriot Jones Floyd DeRosa Ward Cedeno Fontenot Kendall Murton Pie Zambrano Lilly Hill Marquis Dempster Marmol Howry Wood Eyre Wuertz Hart? The last pitcher spot is the only one I'm unsure of, unless I am missing someone
  10. Edit: If you want to keep this in the press conference thread, then move it there I guess Monroe, Blanco, Marshall, Ohman, Trachsel out Fontenot, Cedeno, Pie, Murton, Ward in Soto to catch game 1. Live on Comcast
  11. Great, bulletin board material already
  12. We could get together and pool out money together and buy 300 blue T-shirts. Then in black marker on the back we write "SOTO - 58" as if it were a jersey shirt. Then hand them out to fans entering the ballpark
  13. I like your idea of hitting Floyd second. The guy had a ton of good ABs in September and was the teams second most patient hitter in September.
  14. I know, I'm a dork. But what am I supposed to do at work? My job? As you can see, Dempster blows game 1 and Lou short on patience, puts Howry as the closer. The fans freak out because the least winnable game of the series on paper was blown by Dempster. The Cubs win game 2 fairly easily on the strength of 2 Aramis HRs (a 2 run shot in the first and a 3 run shot in the 7th). Howry gets the save The series shifts to Wrigley and the wind is blowing out. Rich Hill is shakey the first few innings but gets through unscathed. Cubs jump out to a quick lead with a leadoff HR by Sori and a couple of run scoring singles on Livan. Overall Livan is always in trouble. Hill explodes in the 3rd and 4th, but Lou keeps him in long ehough for the Cubs to get the win. Game 4 starts out poorly when Zambrano, on short rest is wild and erratic in the first inning, giving up 3 runs. The Cubs claw back to tie it on the DBacks vaunted bullpen in the 8th and in the 10th, Daryle Ward wins it with a series walkoff HR. Wrigley goes nuts and the Cubs advance.
  15. Waiting is killing me too. So much so, I developed linecode predictions for all games in the series to pass time. Here is what I got: Game 1: CHC 001 100 100 - 3 WP: Pena (1-0) HR: None ARI 100 100 002 - 4 LP: Dempster (0-1) HR: Young (1) Game 2: CHC 200 100 300 - 6 WP: Lilly (1-0) S: Howry (1) HR: Ramirez 2 (2) ARI 101 001 000 - 3 LP: Davis (0-1) HR: Drew (1) Game 3: ARI 004 100 100 - 6 WP: Hill (1-0) S: Howry (2) HR: Soriano (1), Floyd (1) CHC 120 220 00x - 7 LP: Hernandez (0-1) HR: Byrnes (1), Young (2) Game 4: ARI 300 001 000 0 - 4 F/ WP: Wood (1-0) HR: DeRosa (1), Ward (1) CHC 000 020 110 1 - 5 10 LP: Valverde (0-1) HR: None
  16. When I started going out with my girlfriend in January, I showed her Fever Pitch (mind you I left the room and did other things while she was watching it) and at the end explained to her that I am the Cubs fan version of this and that if she dates me she has to realize that I am going to be like this for most of the Spring-Fall. There have been a few testy moments where I can tell that she is thinking "What did I get myself into"..but overall its gone over well.
  17. Does this concern anyone? I took it from a Diamondbacks message board:
  18. Thanks a bunch...updated in a sec to reflect this. Wow we are going to have one of the first 3-4 series at the Nats new park
  19. Is there a choice for Padres (potential for Barrett/Zambrano showdown in playoffs)? I guess its too late anyways
  20. There is very little doubt in my mind that this is the Brewer's division for the next several years. Which is what we said in 2003 and the W.Sox in 2005. Baseball changes in a blink of an eye. I definitely didn't say that. Their starters were Garland (in peak years), Buehrle (in peak years), Contreras (over the hill), El Duque (over the hill) and Freddie Garcia (over the hill). Their lineup was never that great, and contained little to no young talent that you could count on improving and being dominant. The White Sox had young talent in the minors, but none of them proved that they could be good in the pros (and haven't except for Chris Young and Josh Fields, but even they are nowhere near the talent of Braun, Fielder, Weeks, etc). I expected them to contend for another 2-3 years because of their pitching, but not for a stretch of 5-6 years like the Brewers will have coming up. The only thing that can stop the Brewers from dominating is not getting enough starters to develop.
  21. There is very little doubt in my mind that this is the Brewer's division for the next several years. Exactly, with some consistancy on offense (sure to be helped by a full season of Weeks and Braun) and improved pitching, this team is scary good for years.
  22. Oh I agree, I am not using that evidence as reasons the Cubs are going to win. I just thought it was funny to point out how wacky the NL is
  23. I mentioned this in another thread, but how funny is it that the Cubs are the most recent postseason team and probably have the most postseason experience out of any NL entrant out there. Cubs - 2003 Dbacks - 2002 Rockies - 1995 Phillies - 1993 Cubs with postseason experience: Scott Eyre Bobby Howry Ted Lilly Jason Marquis Steve Trachsel Kerry Wood Carlos Zambrano Henry Blanco Jason Kendall Mark DeRosa Derrek Lee Aramis Ramirez Daryle Ward Cliff Floyd Jacque Jones Craig Monroe Alfonso Soriano DBacks with postseason experience: Juan Cruz Eric Byrnes Livan Hernandez Bob Wickman Tony Clark Rockies with postseason experience: Elmer Dessens LaTroy Hawkins Matt Herges Ramon Ortiz Mark Redman Yorvit Torrealba Willy Taveras Phillies with postseason experience: Antonio Alfonseca Tom Gordon Kyle Loshe Jose Mesa Jamie Moyer JC Romero Rod Barajas Wes Helms Tadahito Iguchi Abraham Nunez Aaron Rowand Jayson Werth
  24. The thing that scares me is that I read somewhere that the DBacks are 28-17 against lefties this year. Ted Lilly and Rich Hill pitch games 2-3, Zambrano is neutralized with Webb. It could be a very tough series if we come out flat in game 1.
  25. You really don't know this. There's no way to know how much the new ownership is going to spend. There's really no way to even know who the new owners are going to be at this point, despite all the conjecture from the papers so far. Isn't it a little like maxing out your credit card and hoping that your future salary will be able to afford your current purchases though? It's an irresponsible way to live your life, and it's an irresponsible way to run a business. The only way it pays off, is if we win a WS this year. It is, but if the gamble pays off we are all happy. Where would this team be without those purchases this year? If we win the World Series, of course it will all be worth it. And we are in the playoffs, which means we have more than a fighting chance now. But if we dont, and even with the laziest odds, we have a 1-8 shot at getting to that point, how bad could the next 2-3 years be?
