    I'd like to hear your arguments. This is what I said in another thread: My argument for the Diamondbacks is that just about their entire lineup consists of highly regarded prospects playing their in their first and second MLB seasons last year. Considering that they managed to have the best record in the NL last year despite their prospects learning on the job, I would expect vast improvement from their lineup. If they produce like last year, you are right. But they obviously got a lot better in SP, essentially replacing Livan Hernandez with Haren and Petit with Randy Johnson. FYI, the Diamondbacks team OPS by month: April: .714 May: .757 June: .700 July: .706 August: .715 September: .811 Playoffs vs. Cubs: .890

    their success was primarily because of one move. Yes, and the Cardinals have somewhat lucked into success as well. My point is that they aren't a sabermetric team, but they (at least they think they are) are good at recognizing and developing amateur talent. Who exactly have they developed outside of Joe Mauer who was someone they couldnt mess up. Justin Morneau and Matt Garza and that's about it. 1998 - Ryan Mills (6th overall) 1999 - BJ Garbe (5th overall) 2000 - Adam Johnson (2nd overall) 2001 - Joe Mauer (1st overall) 2002 - Denard Span 2003 - Matt Moses 2004 - Trevor Plouffe 2004 - Glen Perkins 2004 - Kyle Waldrop 2004 - Matt Fox 2004 - Jay Rainville With the exception of the no brainer choice, that's about the worst run of drafting during that time frame in the first round in the non-Royals division. Pirates?

    I would think all the stats guys in the Red Sox FO know all about his defensive value and will not accept something like Wuertz for him.

    But the question wasn't about Bedard, it was about Roberts. Bedard was just mentioned as a barrier for the Roberts trade to occur.

    Well Bane, obviously even the best teams have weaknesses. I think right now we've built ourselves a pretty solid ball club, but obviously if we find a part of our team that is under performing, we'll have an opportunity to jump in and improve the team at that point. But right now, I am pretty satisfied with the players that we have going into camp.

    I am neither an insider or the "OG" as you call it. Mr. Miles is both of those and much, much more. So, anything he says, would and should trump my information a thousand times over. I just happen to be someone, like many of you I'm sure, who knows different people in many different walks of life. You build relationships and you hear things. Sure Jim Hend- I mean Hoops ;)

    I started talking about this in another thread, but I would be interested to see how people think the NL is shaping up. I think right now its all over the place. With the Mets acquiring Santana, I would be most would pick the Mets at number 1, but from there you can go a number of ways. Here is what I projected: 1. Mets 2. Diamondbacks 3. Dodgers 4. Rockies 5. Phillies 6. Padres 7. Brewers (just being a pessimist) 8. Cubs 9. Braves 10. Reds ----------------------------------Realistic Contender Line---------------------------------- 11. Astros 12. Cardinals 13. Nationals 14. Giants 15. Pirates 16. Marlins

    It's funny because I'm looking at Crisp's career line of .280/.329/.409/.738 with an average of 12 HRs and 25 SB and that's give or take what I'd hope from Pie this season.

    When I saw this, I was thinking this is a follow up for a trade involving Pie, but then I saw the rumored players the Cubs would have to give up for Crisp and I really have to wonder.

    [-X Don't forget, we're in the National League. I think Hill has shown that he can be an effective starter and there's really no reason why Lilly can't repeat the year he had last year as well. Sure another pitcher would be nice, but I don't really think it's too big of a hole right now for this team. Why is there no reason Lilly can't repeat? Career 4.46 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with a "career" season at age 31? He spent a lot of his career in the AL East. He's pitching most of his games in one of the weakest, if not THE weakest, divisions in all of baseball. He did have some control problems at times last year, but overall, I thought he was our most consistant starter on the staff. I fully expect him to come close to repeating the numbers he had last year. Don't you think those are hollow numbers though? Although I would appreciate him helping us beat weak teams and win the division again, I would feel very wary about him being our #2 starter in the playoffs.

    I don't know about that. I think their rotation of: Penny, Lowe, Schmidt, Kudora, Billingsley has the potential to be as good as anyones in the NL. The projected lineup is: Furcal, SS Pierre, LF Kent, 2B A. Jones, CF Loney, 1B Garciaparra, 3B Martin, C Kemp, RF That's pretty damn good, especially when their pen is headlined by Saito and Broxton.

    No but I'm sure they love being a small market team burdened with a horrible GM that can't draft or can't produce major leaguers from their system.

    The difference between the Mets having Santana and the Yankees/Red Sox is that its been 5 years since we've reached the NLCS and a mere 63 years since we've reached a World Series. I know most people have the all or nothing line of thinking, but I'd kinda like to see the Cubs at least reach one in my lifetime...

    Maybe we can get Liriano in 4-5 years instead. He fits our mold better anyways (with his arm injuries)
