  3. I just don't understand why there is still a big commotion in Japan whenever a Japanese player comes over. There have to be like 20 guys now that play in the MLB. I know if it were American players going abroad, the novelty would wear off by now. But I sense it has a little to do with Japanese culture and Japanese pride.

Yay First spring training pictures out on Yahoo, and what a surprise, they are all Red Sox! http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20080213/capt.151cb666495a4396b6d85e59d7c6208d.red_sox_spring_baseball_flsr104.jpg http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20080213/capt.4f204a25871a4da3b47a4fb0175fc3ad.red_sox_spring_baseball_flsr108.jpg http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20080213/capt.c88fdacadeab42f5afccbb9298625986.red_sox_spring_baseball_flsr107.jpg http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20080213/capt.21d4f91d1635412b88b1a149d6c72ca7.red_sox_spring_baseball_flsr105.jpg http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20080213/capt.56519fc962d0442bb52d536136f655a8.red_sox_spring_baseball_flsr106.jpg http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20080213/capt.4c47a271c6754db09a2b3c924b059f47.red_sox_spring_baseball_flsr103.jpg http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20080213/capt.d4be9ba8e5bb4a64bb6fa3d0bfc95a0d.red_sox_spring_baseball_flsr102.jpg http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20080213/capt.ea6b5d2e2cc0406da003ea869f264d50.red_sox_spring_baseball_flsr101.jpg
  7. C'mon, there is so much less pressure on the road when your not dealing with all of the notoriously venomous San Diego fans.
  8. Phew, I was worried about what Mr. Dempster thought about the Cubs chances this year. J/K, great read as always Bruce.

  10. No, I was arguing with the assumption that your statement was correct, which I do not believe it is. For the record, considering his superior defense (not arguable) and the likelihood that statistically he would put up much better power numbers with any team other than the Padres (this is my opinion based on statistical analysis but can be argued), I would put Greene just in front of JJ Hardy on that list, assuming that your list is in order and not just a list of SSs that are better than Greene.
  11. Carlos Guillen is no longer a SS. I'd still put him at SS over Greene. Just like I'd put DeRosa at SS over Greene. OK well I will put Albert Pujols at SS over Greene too. Now hes number 15. Aww your so funny. Albert Pujols never was a MLB SS like Carlos Guillen was very recently. Carlos Guillen's poor defense doesnt make up for the fact that he is 10 times better on offense than Greene. OK, add ARod then. I still don't see how Greene's position ranking among other eligible SSs has anything to do with the fact that he would be a significant upgrade over Ryan Theriot. Well I'll agree with that. I was a big advocate of signing AROD this offseason and putting him at SS. You guys can keep putting these star players at SS to move Theriot down the list, but you are still moving Greene down as well so I dont get your point. So lets stop being smart asses and actually pretend like your knowledgeable at baseball. Who cares? If Greene is the 85th best shortstop in the world and Theriot is the 145th, Greene is a better baseball player and a better shortstop, and by more than a small margin.

  13. :-s you heard him, now get lost! Take UMfan with you, that guys insider's suck! I told you to take everything with a grain of salt. Just because my insider happens to be Carrie Muskat's dog doesn't mean you have to boot me off the board!

  15. And Greene's power and top shelf defense wouldn't make our team better? Can you explain why youd rather have: Below Average at position offense/Adequate defense at SS with Good offense and above average D at 2B vs. Above average at position offense/Very Good defense at SS with Good offense and average D at 2B? How are you judging below average and above average? I'll turn to fantasy baseball because they take into account every hit and aspect to a players offensive game. I would say both players are average to below average at their position offensively. The only think Greene brings is power. Whereas Theriot brings speed. Plus Greene has better defense. You're using fantasy baseball to judge the relative worth of a player? The same type of system that values a HR as much as a SB?? No i'm not. I just used fantasy baseball to compare a players offensive ranking with another player in the same positions offensive ranking. And I use a points based league, where HRs are worth 4 points, and SBs are worth 2. Greene and Theriot are right next to eachother towards the middle to lower half. So if player A has 20 HRs and player B has 40 SB but gets CS 120 times, they are as valuable in that league?

  18. Probably because the PCL is a ridiculously great hitters league. And your argument that he would do well is because he looked 'comfortable' in the bigs?
  19. Everyone here is going to be pissed at Jim for not getting BRob when Soto and Pie flop, Theriot is still terrible and the Cubs have 3 black holes in their lineup. Not saying that is going to happen but still.
  20. Yeah, I'm meeting up with a buddy of mine in Arizona and also another friend of mine is flying in from Maryland Sun. March 23rd (Easter Sunday) and the three of us have tickets for the 24th, when the Cubs play the Rangers. We'll also be watching the Cubs against the Brewers on Thurs. (March 27th?). Go Cubs! Kinda weird that they play the Brewers on the 27th, with those 2 teams set to face off on the 31st at Wrigley.
  21. I'll probably be out there in a couple of weeks, but I'm not 100% yet. My mom lives out there, so it makes for a convenient excuse to go out there every March. :D
  22. I am in insider for the insiders and this is what I'm hearing:
  23. When do Brian Roberts and the rest of the Cubs position players report?
