  1. Are you saying we are dumb for wanting these guys?
  2. It's so crazy how many of those names were relevant even 2 years ago. Victor Zambrano was traded for Scott Kazmir Cliff Polite was a key setup man on the 2005 White Sox Mike Sweeney was the face of the Royals for years, and according to The Dugout people shattered the single season HR mark in relative obscurity Chan Ho Park got a huge contract 5 years ago Chris Reitsma was traded for Bob Wickman like 2 years ago Fernando Tatis hit 2 Grand Slams in an inning like 5 years ago Jorge Julio was one of the better setup men in baseball a few years back Crazy.
  3. So basically there is no news to report...... ;) I'm trying here guys, I really am. This thread isn't going to get to 200 pages by itself.
  4. "Their Bruce?" Who does Levine belong to? The Onion.
  5. Honest question. If you had 2 players that had the exact same statistics in their career, but one got caught using a corked bat and the other did not, which one is more likely to use steroids? A caught cheater or the non-cheater?
  6. No. We've been down that route. Nomar's extreme drop in power numbers over the last 2 seasons raises some serious questions, and I think he's happy to finally make it on the West Coast. He had a .699 OPS last season Ryan Theriot had a .672 OPS last season. Nomar is a complete butcher in the field, Theriot is adequate. Nomar made 8.2 million last year. Theriot made 390k
  7. *AHEM* http://images.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/_photos/2003-06-03-sosa-lower-inside.jpg
  8. Their pitching alone will give them 60 wins, especially if they can pull off that trade for Crede. Trading for Crede doesn't sound like much, but he would be replacing Rich Aurilla... Have you seen their offense? Answer: no, because it doesn't exist. Dave Roberts is the Starting LEFT fielder. Vizquel has nothing, and I mean nothing, left in the tank. Have you heard of Dan Ortmeier? Well, he's the starting first baseman. Ray Durham hit .218 with a .295 on-base. They will be terrible, especially so when you consider the strength of their division. And adding Joe Crede with his .305 OBP will not help anything. I agree they will be terrible. Their offense might be the worst of all time. I'm just saying that they won't be lucky to win 45 games. The starting pitching is actually pretty good and will allow them to win 60 games this season.
  9. I think the worst thing that could happen to the Reds this year is to be in mid-July about 4-5 games out of a playoff spot. Bruce is obviously untouchable, but the rest could go in desperate trades.
  10. First off, your math is pretty bad (2003-1945 = 58 years). He also mortgaged the team's future for that one playoff run and crippled the Cubs going forward. Oh, and he's an awful manager. But yeah, we're sad. That's arguable. Obviously World Series > 5 outs from WS, but winning a playoff series hadn't happened since 1908 before 2003.
  11. I really wish I could spell out all the insanely crazy things that Dusty did as manager. However, I have blocked most of those memories from my mind perminantly. Just know that when fans of the 2 fan bases he coached at consistantly set Dusty Baker as the lowest of the low (and we've had some horrible managers) and when he constantly has subtle jabs taken at his coaching 'philosophy' in the mainstream media as well as other media like Rotoworld, its pretty obvious hes a horrible manager. I am not saying he can have success with the Reds. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Reds won this division this year (yet I think the Brewers and then Cubs are most likely to). But more likely than not, any success the Reds have during Dusty's tenure will be in spite of him rather than because of him.
  12. I don't think the team, as it stands right now is a playoff team in the Central. But that's not to say we won't make a deal midseason to improve ourselves.
  13. Dammit, this is going to push his HOF eligibility back.
  14. Don't you feel upset that you might soon be leaving this fine organization?
  15. Is there any way we can start the process of getting Brian Roberts a physical right now, just in case a deal is consummated at some point this month? That way when a deal is agreed upon, it will only take 10 days of denials and haggling before it gets done.
  16. http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/sports/red_sox/index.php/2008/02/07/schilling-issue-serious/ Whoops, should have gotten Santana..
  17. What times does today's announcement that Bedard won't be traded until tomorrow at the earliest occur?
  18. Banks statue?
  19. Although I take no stock in this, just for argument's sake, that is way too I Dropped The Soap! much to give up for a player we don't need. That'd be a horrific trade. I'd probably do it at this point. Sadly I would too. Although I'd love to have Cedeno around in case Theriot gets benched. Gallagher we already conceded would be gone in any trade. Veal I am not so high on anymore, and we get to keep Marshall so we don't have to rely on Dempster in the rotation.
  20. Obviously the trends state that Z shouldn't have an ERA under 4, but I am being hopeful.
  21. Trade gets announced Friday February 8th. Then they are left with 5 days to trade Roberts before camp. Not to say that they wouldn't do the trade after camp starts, but it would be increasingly less likely.
  22. Either you're trying to skew the results or you are even a better pessimist than I am!
  23. I highly doubt a group of fans can project their favorite teams stats accurately. But ok, I'll give it a shot. Lee - .305/.390/.508 DeRosa - .275/.347/.420 Theriot - .242/.297/.330 (gets benched midseason) Ramirez - .289/.364/.545 Soriano - .284/.326/.513 Pie - .271/.315/.440 Fukodome - .290/.385/.450 Soto - .266/.345/.449 Zambrano - 1.31/3.45 Lilly - 1.24/4.19 Hill - 1.16/3.31 Marquis - 1.46/5.43 Dempster - 1.51/4.85 Lieber - 1.30/4.51 Marmol - 1.06/3.45 Howry - 1.19/3.61 Wood - 1.41/4.43 But honestly, just use whatever numbers Meph gives you.
