  1. They are playing 2 games above their pythag pace, while we're playing 3 games under, so we got that going for us. How different would we feel if these were the standings: Cubs 39-18 -- Cards 32-26 7.5
  2. I believe we have faced Hamels 3 times in his career. Once in 2006 we lit him up like an XMas tree, and he didn't lost too long. The last two times, he's pretty much had his way with us, once at Wrigley last year, and once at Citizens Bank in April.
  3. I would love to face them in the NLCS again I'd love to face anyone in the NLCS again :) Goodness that would bring back some bad memories. The masochist in me wants to face the Cardinals. The stathead in me wants the Phillies (lefty starters, low-K pitching staff). I wouldn't want to face the Phillies in a 5 game series just because of Cole Hamels. A 7 game series and we are talking.
  4. I like Kyle as well. Jay Bruce has homered again. Seriously find a way to get this guy out jeez.
  5. To be honest, the Cubs miss both Peavy and Young in this series, so..... Because of injury, not because the 3 game series happens to roll over the wrong part of the rotation. But it is a valid point.
  6. Brewers. Meh. I think he means that team with a 120-119 Pythagorean record over the last two seasons, including 27-30 this season. And yet, they have enough talent and resources to make a run. Who said that their talent was playing at full potential the last season and a half.
  7. Actually look at the Cubs pitching as a whole for May. Cubs rankings: Hits: 17th BB: 17th K: 3rd BAA: 6th ERA: 3rd (3.30) That's kind of bizarre to have a WHIP as high as the Cubs did and have the 3rd best ERA for the month.
  8. Wow our Bullpen and top 2 starters were awesome. Our 3-5 starters and long reliever sucked.
  9. I just realized that the Brewers have a 3 game set against the DBacks this week. The only 2 starters that they don't face in the series: Brandon Webb and Dan Haren. WTH?
  10. I think that if the Cubs had held on to win all 6 of these games for a 42-15 record, I'm not sure I'd be able to handle that. I don't think I'd be able to handle the fact that the Cubs had a 23 game winning streak! What's more, check the games before that. The Cubs have really played 5 games all year that they lost by more than 3 runs. And in two of those, it was still within 3 runs by the 7th inning. There have been few times that the Cubs really never had a shot. So if the Cubs record was 52-5, or 54-3, people could finally say that we are the luckiest team ever!
  11. I think that if the Cubs had held on to win all 6 of these games for a 42-15 record, I'm not sure I'd be able to handle that. I don't think I'd be able to handle the fact that the Cubs had a 23 game winning streak!
  12. fixed Sorry, 3 Pads, 4 Dodgers. I dont know though, records may say otherwise, but on paper, without Peavy and Young, its hard to imagine a worse team than the Pads. I don't trust this series because I don't trust Petco Park
  13. Yup, Reds will be a thorn in our side for awhile probably. But then again, so will the Brewers. Unfortunately, our farm is embarrassingly bad right now, so we'll have to keep spending to keep up.
  14. If you look at the recent schedule for the Cubs, the last game the Cubs were really out of and had no chance of winning was on May 7th, when Lieber served up batting practice to the Reds. Since then, a stretch of 23 games, usually 1-2 bad pitches led to a Cubs loss. Obviously we've gotten some breaks in the games we won, but if a few things went differently, we could be on a 23 game winning streak. 5/13 - Cubs have a 3-0 lead, Marquis gives up 4 runs in the 4th, including a Greene 3 run bomb, and the rains started coming down, stifling all offense. Cubs lose 4-3 5/17 - Marmol uncharacteristically gives up a 2 run HR to McLouth in the 9th inning. The Cubs have a rally, scoring a run, and having the tying run on base with 2 outs as Lee gets decent wood on the ball and flys out to the opposite field warning track to end the game. Cubs lose 7-6 5/20 - The Cubs had a 2-0 lead, and Dempster was very good save one inning. In that inning, 1 pitch to Hunter Pence, deposited into the RF stands for a grand slam was the difference as neither team did much from there. Cubs lose 4-2 5/21 - The Cubs shot out to a 3-0 first inning lead, and that was all the offense would do, as Gallagher gave up 4 runs in the 4th, including a 3 run HR to Carlos Lee. Cubs lose 5-3. 5/24 - Soriano picked off 2nd in the 9th for what could have been an insurance run, Wood blows the save in the 9th, Cubs lose in 14, 5-4 5/25 - Soriano drops the game ending pop fly to allow the tying run to score. Cubs lose 6-5 The rest have been W's. Overall the run differential in the 6 losses we've had is 31-23. That's just amazing. Obviously these types of losses happen from time to time to every team, but when those are all the losses you've had in a 23 game stretch, it makes you wonder.
  15. I see Geo as a threat to Geo's ROY chances.
  16. Man if Cedeno can't even get consistent ABs with a 10th player added its criminal.
  17. Ryan Church was the one that got away for me. I really wanted him 2 offseasons ago.
  18. From the admin of their forum Which is why they have a 21 page thread about whether the Cubs are legitimate or not. You know, the thread that you posted the above comment in.
  19. Yeah. 140 max for Soto, I think. I'd really rather him not play in more than 130-135, but we all know that's not going to happen. We need to. Soto is probably tiring a bit from going almost every day. Plus its not like Blanco has been horrible this year. He's hitting .350 or so in a limited sample size.
  20. That play scared me for a second until I realized that Soriano plays LF not RF
  21. As awesome as Soriano is, Glenallen Hill has more awesomeness in his pinky finger than Soriano does in his whole body. Uhhhhhhhhh...what? Hill had an awesome homer, but Soriano is actually, y'know, useful. Hey Hill wasn't worthless. .271/.321/.482 lifetime line isn't that shabby. What were his Cubs' numbers? Almost positive they were better than his career numbers as a whole, but I am not sure how I can get those splits. Anyone know?
  22. Yeah so I know the batter has a better shot to do good things when the ball ends up in the strike zone, but you might want to place the ball into that zone a few times Eyre.
  23. Am I crazy? Didn't that land in the back of the bleachers? Whoops! I didn't see it clearly enough I guess.
