  1. OMG this is the exact same thing we did against Moehler last time I believe...a ton of swings early in the count.
  2. Figures. I noticed the same thing. I did too, I cheated when compiling the list. The Cardinals have only played 59 games vs. Lee :)
  3. This is Carlos Lee's OPS against teams he's played more than 60 games against in his career: Cubs - .972 Rangers - .933 Mariners - .881 A's - .865 Royals - .854 Indians - .834 Twins - .795 Tigers - .789 Angels - .766 Cardinals - .654 Not only is he a Cub killer by hurting Cubs, but he's a Cub killer in being an easy out for the Cardinals.
  4. Not a great start by Dempster, but I guess not a horrible one either.
  5. I didn't think so either...but the #s on ESPN show us at 94.8% To make the playoffs....only an 83% shot at the division
  6. Yeesh, I wouldn't even give the Angels a 95% chance of winning the division right now.
  7. I vote yes. Every pitcher has a deadarm period. Sheets is going through his IMO.
  8. 4.03 WHIP is a bad WHIP. It's catastrophic. Is that really true? No...I meant ERA :(
  9. The Astros honestly don't really scare me at Wrigley like they do at MMP. That park does wonders for them. Brian Moehler has a 4.63 ERA on the road with a 1.41 WHIP, while he has a 3.99 ERA at home Wandy meanwhile still has big H/R splits. 3.31 ERA at home and 4.03 WHIP on the road. Last year he had a 2.97 ERA at home and a 6.37 ERA on the road, so while I guess having a .62 ERA difference between H/R is not a lot, he has been known to pitch less effectively on the road in his career. Also, the Astros hit nearly 100 points better (OPS) at home than on the road. They are 11th in the league in home OPS at .784, while they are 25th in the league in road OPS at .689
  10. I never watch full 9 minute Youtube videos, but I watched that one with a smile on my face the entire time. I almost forgot to what it feels like to watch a player so uniquely talented play in Chicago. Most teams you'd expect a kick return for a TD 1-2 times a year...they are essential flukes...a combo of good blocking, good timing, and good running that only come together once in awhile. In Chicago, we expect scores on kick returns because of that man (and pretty good special teams). I really hope losing Ayenbadejo doesn't hurt the ST too much.
  11. The argument is that having 15 teams in each division makes it very hard to schedule games. The only way it could happen is if interleague play went on all year long.
  12. If the Cubs can somehow get 33 games over .500 this year, it will be their most over .500 since 1945
  13. I think the talent is diluted enough that we don't need 2 more teams, especially with a few markets still struggling to draw people. But then again, with the success of the Asian market adding to the talent base its not impossible. I think if they added 2 more teams they should do an NFL style formatting. Both leagues would have 4 divisions with 4 teams in them. The team who wins the division would win a playoff spot. No second place teams being rewarded, etc. AL Northeast Boston Montreal (reincarnated) New York Toronto AL Southeast Baltimore Charlotte Kansas City Tampa Bay AL Central Chicago Cleveland Detroit Minnesota AL West Los Angeles Oakland Seattle Texas NL Northeast Cincinnati New York Philadelphia Pittsburgh NL Southeast Atlanta Florida Houston Washington NL Central Chicago Colorado Milwaukee St. Louis NL West Arizona Los Angeles San Diego San Francisco Just a suggestion. They would probably never do another team in Montreal, but I couldn't think of another city in the Northeast.
  14. Pretty simple....attendance. Contrary to popular belief, those day games in April and May (especially April) are a tough sell compared to the weekends or a night game. That's the part I don't understand. Every year they complain about the dog days of summer, yet they used up most of their night game package in April and May, where several of those games the fans and the players are freezing their butts off. It doesn't make any sense. Well because the bottom line is money and they don't believe that it makes a huge difference to have mostly day games in the middle of summer.
  15. 125 and 118 pitches his 2 previous starts Again, there was no reason for Lou to make Z throw in the 8th last week in Milwaukee. We had a 7 run lead and a rested bullpen. I couldnt believe after 125 pitches in his last start, he made Z go out for another inning in a blowout after throwing like 103 through 7 innings. We almost lost yesterday partially because of it. I assume Gaudin would still have been in there for the 8th inning regardless, because Z's pitch count was getting pretty high early. So I don't think it had much to do with us giving up the lead. By way of comparison, there's no doubt Dusty would just let Z pitch 120+ every time out for the rest of the season. So at least Lou keeps in mind the wear & tear and tries to take action to limit the damage. That's more than I can say for some other managers in this league. I agree, I'm not complaining that Lou's burning out our arms at all. It's night and day from Dusty's reign. He just goes about a weird way of using his pitchers.

I couldnt believe after 125 pitches in his last start, he made Z go out for another inning in a blowout after throwing like 103 through 7 innings. We almost lost yesterday partially because of it. We did not have a rested bullpen when Z went 8 last week. And we didn't almost lose because of it today. Z being able to go another inning still means that Cotts/Gaudin pitch the 8th. The counterargument to both your points is Jeff Samardzija. He could have gone 2 in Milwaukee, and if Z went through 6 yesterday, its possibly likely Jeff pitches in the 7th and 8th. Not a given but a possibility.

  18. I think they rotate every year. I like that they are on Fox, despite our favorite announcers calling it. For some reason, it feels more like the playoffs when its on Fox than it does on TBS.
  19. That is a game I'd expect the Cubs to have. I'd be crushed if I was a Cardinals fan right now.
  20. Wow the perfect day in baseball.
  21. Unbelievable. This turned into a good game either way.
  22. And Lidge is about to blow his first save of the year. Nice.
  23. Luckwicks luck ran out.
