  2. Vitters and Dempster for Peavy, and we'll eat 51.99M of his contract
  3. Yeah he's been really unlucky this inning.
  4. Who cares what position he plays. DL Ramirez and make him your PH guy. Our bench is depleted, we need someone who can PH, not necessarily someone who can replace Ramirez for 15 days, although that would be preferred.
  5. I just wanted to point out that you don't need intent for a flagrant 1. The only reason I know that is because I looked it up for that very reason.
  6. Did anyone else notice that Chad Gaudin pitched 5 scoreless innings tonight for the Padres in Colorado? Only gave up 3 hits (but 4 walks) in those 5 innings....
  7. Its fun watching SSR turn into an enemy. It's not fun being a Bulls fan tonight.
  8. Haha thanks for all the explainations. I guess you need something to get you through the blowouts, however rare they've been for the Cubs this year so far.
  9. Wait what? I'm not watching the game, why is Lilly's name being brought up in this thread?
  10. I think that's how most teams get to their RISP numbers. Most teams will have games where they go 6-8, 10-13 w/risp and then they will have the games where they go 0-5, 2-9 and then it averages out to mid/high .200's/low .300's. It's an average so most teams aren't consistently hitting .270-.320 they are having games under .150 and then they will have games over .600 in the end it averages out but for the most part teams aren't actually hitting at their RISP average in a game by game basis. Well that's how averages work. But I'm guessing (with no statistical evidence), that most teams have less of a deviation from game to game than the Cubs have had this year.
  11. It figures, a season's worth of hits with RISP in one game. Now our overall average will look good despite being absolutely horrible at it 18/19 games this year.
  12. that's 7 lefties in a row, right? But the genius of it is, 3 of them are switch hitters! So instead of.... RRLLLLLLL It can be... RRLLRLRRR...if a lefty comes in. Oh Jim Hendry, you are such a genius!
  13. Phew, I didn't believe it until Twitter said so.
  14. Out of the top scorers in the game he takes more jump shots than almost all of them. Kobe Bryant is basically a jump shooter. Michael Jordan late in his career was a basically a jump shooter. Dirk, Granger, Joe Johnson, and Ben Gordon are jump shooters. It's not a pejorative thing. He's not taking it as an insult, he's saying that Pierce isn't a jump shooter. He drives to the lane an awful lot, ESPECIALLY when Garnett is on the floor. He might have adapted to one for this series, but trust me he's more than a jump shooter.
  15. those numbers are skewed by his awful appearance against the red sox. I know. Today the perfect day to post those stats. He's made 8 appearances, 5 scoreless, gave up 1 run in 1 appearance, 2 runs in 1 appearance, and 3 runs in yesterday's appearance.
  16. My commercial would highlight all the crappy failures of recent Cubs past, including Game 5 of the 84 NLCS, Will Clark smashing a ball into the seats in the 89 NLCS, Sammy Sosa juicing up in the dugout before running onto the field for an AB, Kerry Woods arm flying off his body and impailing a nearby Mark Prior, Steve Bartman/Alex Gonzalez in 2003, Moises Alou peeing on his hands just for fun, and then a photo of Jim Hendry comes on the screen as each year flashes by "2005: We need better chemistry", "2006: We need speed and guys who can catch the ball!", "2007: Holy #$#@, we need everything!", and finally "2009: WE NEED LEFTIES!!!!" and then finally, a Cubs fan crying on the TV screen as the finals words flash across the screen: "Cubs baseball: Why the $#@% would you even bother?" Edit: Oh and the photo of the marquee at Wrigley Field displaying the words: "Congratulations Chicago White Sox, 2005 World Series Champions" would be displayed somewhat during that commercial.
  17. Ben Gordon did not participate in the shootaround this morning and described his hammy as "not good". He implied that he might not be able to play tonight.
  18. If it makes you guys feel better, Kerry Wood has been awful for the Indians. 0-1 7.71 ERA 1.71 WHIP
  19. Milton Bradley is a joke. Why does he even bother pinch hitting when all he does is try to draw walks and ends up strike out looking?
  20. It is bad in some areas we are seeing. Our bench is pretty bad, our depth is pretty bad, the backend of our bullpen is pretty bad. As optimistic as we're all trying to be, I don't think we will see these trends reverse themselves unless we make changes. Oh, definitely, hence my [expletive] the bed comment since pretty much all of those flaws are the result of Hendry's actions or inactions in the off season. It's worrying because at this time last year we were trying to figure out IF the Cubs had a flaw. I really feel like this team is losing confidence by the game. They really need to snap out of this funk in a hurry. Hopefully in a month we will all be laughing about this period. Tons of teams have had starts like this and it ended up much better.
  21. That's actually a pretty good suggestion. I think our concerns over signing him in the offseason were that he was asking too much, but now that it's almost May, I'm sure he will lower his demands a bit unless he has decided to retire.
