  1. This isn't game 7 of the World Series unfortunately.
  2. It's like when CBS or Fox overhypes their new shows during a big football game, only the crappy WGN verion of that. I wish this game would have been on WCIU so they would have to promote an all new episode of Cheaters tonight Nice Sori.
  3. The Reds cannot hit those breaking balls. Those are some promising pitches...at least until they learn to lay off.
  4. Yeah, all this time I just thought they named it the Great American ballpark just to name it that. I always thought that about United Center. Really? You didn't think that big giant United logo on the roof that was shown anytime the Jordan Bulls played a national televised game in the 90s meant anything?
  5. If you could get any velocity readings on Archer (and Huseby if he pitches, that'd be fantastic). I wish I could...but the pitch speed thing at the park was turned off for some reason. Going by eye (which is horrible inaccurate so you shouldnt take anything from it), his fastbal definitely seemed crisp...maybe low 90s?
  6. When has your later scenario occured, assuming that by scoring a lot of runs you mean at least 6-7 runs?
  7. I wish I wasn't a Cub fan sometimes, but they've got me addicted and there's nothing I can do about it. All teams besides maybe the Red Sox and Yankees have stretches or even seasons like this where nothing goes right and you want to pull your hair back. Don't pretend like this is something only the Cubs do. The two differences are: With the amount of money we make, we should be in the Red Sox Yankees category, especially competing against all mid to small market teams in our division, and second we have a 101 year World Series title drought, which depending on how old you are you've only felt for 20-30 years of it, putting you in the category that Giants, Indians, Rangers, etc fans have experienced. But I can completely understand venting your frustrations by making hyperbolic statements. I think my first 10,000 game thread posts were basically that.
  8. Is it 1-23 with RISP in this series now with at least 5 GIDPs in this series? 8 runs scored in 34 innings this series against Owings, some rookie whose name I already forgot and Arroyo. 34 innings is almost 4 full games. 8 runs.
  9. This offense is worse than any Cubs offense I can remember even 2006. It has the potential to be so much more too.
  10. Have an offense and or bullpen that does it's job occasionally.
  11. 8 runs in 3 games against the crappy pitchers the Reds threw at us? That's by far the main reason we can't get more than a game or two over .500
  12. Good stuff(good fastball and nice curve, mediocre change), awful control. Your right on about the control. He started the third by allowing a single, walking the next 2 jitters on 9 pitches and then hitting the next batter.
  13. I'm at the Peoria game right now. Anything I should know about Archer (scouting report, etc.)?
  14. hahahahaha Reds: 29-26 Cubs: 27-26 Believe that puts the Reds a game "better" than the Cubs, no? I see the same number of losses and that's all. Also a good point. You are better than the Cubs because Mother Nature decided to give the Cubs 2 less games at this point in the season. So would you have been ok with a quote that said, "we're just as good as the Cubs?" More to your liking? No...I would have been OK with "Well so far we are about as good as the Cubs, despite the Cubs suffering numerous injuries and dealing with several of their players playing below what anyone with a brain would expect them to do. Maybe we can keep that up over 162 games so we can claim the right to say we were better than the Cubs over a full season."
  15. hahahahaha Reds: 29-26 Cubs: 27-26 Believe that puts the Reds a game "better" than the Cubs, no? I see the same number of losses and that's all. Also a good point. You are better than the Cubs because Mother Nature decided to give the Cubs 2 less games at this point in the season.
  16. hahahahaha Reds: 29-26 Cubs: 27-26 Believe that puts the Reds a game "better" than the Cubs, no? They play 162 games buddy. 162 games gives teams a chance to withstand things like injuries or lackluster and sometimes unlucky play.
  17. I wonder if theres like a cap on the amont he's allowed to spend without getting approval by the new owner and the Trib co. Like he can acquire a $2 million player but can't aquire a $4 million player without approval.
  18. That was lame. I missed how the runner got on, but he got to second base on a passed ball, then to 3rd on a bunt right to the pitcher that had a chance of getting the lead runner out and then scored on a grounder right to the 3B that only would have scored on a terrible throw making the catcher's feet leave the ground. We basically gave them that run with poor fundamentals. Soto has been awful at blocking pitches this year and Fontenot showed his inexperience at 3B, a scenario that never should have happend this year if this team was built properly. BTW, there is still time to rectify these errors Jim. And it doesn't take $5 million to do it, so the ownership thing is no excuse.
  19. After every loss like this, I say to myself, they will snap out of this funk and play better baseball, and then these games keep happening. I still have faith that we will make the playoffs, but losses like this expose a lack of talent. Our offense hasn't been good in weeks...when we win games its like 5-3 or 2-1 or 6-5 or something like that. Remember when we would score early, tack on runs late and win games like 9-2 last year? The more we have games like this the more I realize that without Ramirez and Bradley and whoever else, we are less talented in some areas than the team we are playing on most nights. Starting pitching? Fine...Bullpen? starting to be mostly fine. But offense and defense are glaring weaknesses because of putting players like Fontenot at 3B. Oh well, lets get a road series win tomorrow.
  20. He had literally the exact same quote about the brewers two weeks ago. And it was after Milwaukee swept them.
  21. Am I watching a replay of game 3 of the 07 NLDS? Boy Livan Hernandez has gotten whiter.
  22. Looks like we might have bad Marqu- I mean Dempster today.
  23. I assumed (and still assume) that Bradley would work out quite nicely this year on the Cubs because: A) He is coming off the best statistical season of his career B) He is slipping into the best offense in the NL last year C) He has always shown above average to excellent plate discipline D) Moving from the AL to the NL (NL Central at that) would negate the change in ballparks and a bit of regression. You know why people always have to use fragmented statistics to show the worth of MIlton Bradey? Because his whole career is fragments! Look at his numbers, because of many reasons (sporatic playing time due to injuries, changing teams constantly) his career numbers jump all over the place from year to year. The point is, he is just as likely to put up a .925 OPS season as he is a .825 OPS season. You can't blame anyone who has predicted big things from Milton when you see his OPS jump up from .818 in 06 to .947 in 07 to .999 in 08. Are we supposed to use his '07 and prior numbers to project this years numbers or something? I'm not sure how the Bradley era will turn out in Chicago, but 39 games is way too little for the doubters to start shouting "I told you so", yet people have been doing so since at least 15 games prior.
  24. Well, now that it's over, I'll say that is was an enjoyable way to spend a Friday early evening. But man, 2 runs off Owings and co? Ouch. Soriano hitting in the .230's, Fukudome about to leave the Cubs with 0 .300 hitters. This reminds me of the White Sox in 07 I think. They just never got it going until like July offensively.
  25. OMG you suck Soto. If we blow this it will be the second blown game in a row where a dropped third strike costs us. Wow Edit: Oh wait I forgot its Hill
