  1. I've always had a hunch that a majority of his walks are taken when there aren't RISP's. He doesn't seem to mind working the count and taking a walk in those situations, but when there are RBI opportunities, he gets super aggressive and swings at horrible pitches. He will still sometimes take pitches, but only to get ahead in the count in order to increase the probability of him getting a hittable pitch. If he gets a 2-0 count, he'll just start flaling away at anything to avoid walking.
  2. When is Soriano due for a hot streak again? What a promising inning just shattered in a span of 2 pitches.
  3. Negotiation tactic. The Cubs will be sold to Ricketts and no one else.
  4. Uhh Blanco is 0-2 tonight with 2 Ks and has a season .167 I meant yesterday buddy. Because his 1-4 really really helped yesterday, buddy. He did have an RBI double that gave the Cubs an insurance run and extended the inning so another insurance run could happen. But yeah other than that, he has been pretty bad.
  5. We need to give Fox some starts before he loses his momentum and cools off. He looks locked in.
  6. When you *have* to play Mike Fontenot against an extremely tough lefty, and have to play, or even call up Andres Blanco, your team has some problems. There are several glaring holes on this team that keep them from being last year's team. That said, they can still contend for the playoffs with some smart moves and a bit of luck. Also, we can't have almost half the lineup hovering around .200. This is what i think is unbelievble. Its unreal. It's pretty unreal that we are relying on contributions from Bobby Scales, Jake Fox, Andres Blanco, Micah Hoffpauir among others. That's almost 20% of our lineup that at this time last year you would think would never be called up to the Cubs that are playing supporting roles for this team. I don't think they are all destined for failure or anything....so far they've all contributed somewhat, but its just odd for a team with a payroll this high to be playing these players. Did you know that the Cubs have FIFTEEN pre-arbitration players on their 25 man roster right now?
  7. Nice job Scales! Turns an 0-2 count into a HR

  9. Soto is the Derrek Lee of 2009, at least as it pertains to GIDP's and strange disapperances of power.
  10. Absolutely no IF range costs the Cubs a run.
  11. I wish the Expos were still around. I loved driving up to Montreal for a weekend of gambling, drinking, strip clubs, and a cheap ticket to a sparsely attended major league baseball game. just wanted to say that strip clubs in Canada effing rule. Whole heartedly agree.

  13. Whether they regret it or not, it doesn't matter. They built the ballpark and now they have to figure out a way to make it work. I think they should start by actually getting a marketable player. Then they should probably get better at some point. It would certainly help to not have your GM caught in scandals and get a GM that can sign your first round picks. DC was always gonna be a tricky market with the Orioles so close by. You need some success to develop a fan base. Casual Orioles fans in DC aren't going to jump to a horrific unwatchable Nationals team just because they play 40 miles closer than the team they currently root for.
  14. They were in every game but one, but the Wings outplayed the Hawks in 4 out of the 5 games. Even in the close games, you never got the feeling that the Hawks would pull it out. Good series though...still reminds me of 95.
  15. Absolutely no reason to hang our heads. Coming into the season, the goal was to make the playoffs, even the players will tell you that. Not only did they make the playoffs, but they proved that they are an elite NHL team and gave a city starving for success plenty of excitement and memories. The core of the team is young and still has the chance to get better. If Tallon can be sharp and manage the cap, we will soon be expecting to get this far every year. So let's not get all caught up on what we need to do to get better than the Wings or worry about if we can keep Havlat and others. For this one night let's celebrate a group of talented individuals who played their hearts out, achieved more than they ever imagined, and revived hockey in Chicago. Let's Go Hawks!
  16. Z (to Morgan): Nice run little man. I'm gonna give you to Mr. Bradley. Come here you! Morgan: No way man. I'm a pirate! Ump: Thats racist. Z: You son of a....
  17. Good thing that was Morgan and not someone with more power because Gregg looked like he was gonna implode again with his "strike-strike-nibble-nibble-meatball" combo.
  18. same. That's what you get for trusting in meph
  19. I still remember watching the Sportscenter clips of the Cavs trying trick shots in practice during their really really long layoff and thinking "this can't be good for business"
  20. Remember that Jordan had to endure 6 years of playoff defeats before reaching the promised land. The Bulls had years where you thought they could get over the top and then the Pistons would beat them. Also remember that this series is not over.
  21. And the Black Knight's arm being chopped off was 'just a flesh wound'
  22. NBA will kill themselves, but that's what I was hoping for. 2 teams that have never won an NBA title playing for it. I enjoy the play of D12 and Melo. It would be fun.
  23. Howard also had a hold of Varejao's arm After watching a replay, I think if a foul occurred, it occurred just before Howard locked arms with him.
  24. possibly traveling too.
  25. He looks like Derrick Rose out there.
