  1. Duh he's like 10 times the proven manager Lou is. The last time Trammell was a manager, historical things happened.
  2. The old theriot without the uppercut in his swing would have lines that in for a hit. Instead it stays up there for the last out.
  3. I've seen these guys get hits before. Why can't they do it now?
  4. not that i'm defending soriano, but god i hate trolls. .230 aveage for an 18 million dollar piece of trash. Combine that with a .226 average for a 10 million dollar piece of trash.
  5. What's the difference between a Dominican idiot and just an American one?
  6. Anyone else see the douchebag with the straw hat and the T-shirt that says "Sexy is my middle name" in spanish?
  7. RISP, time to immdediately go down 0-2 in the count.
  8. Can't know if it'll fit in the budget until the sale goes through. I'll pitch in a buck. If every Cubs fan in Wrigley right now would pitch in a buck, we might just have enough money to get everyone on the team one. If every Cubs fan in Wrigley pitched in a buck, they could pay for 4 games of Soriano's salary.
  9. 27 RBIs is good for 100th in the league.
  10. I'm thinking you're right. Don't be too down on them...the Cubs have already scored more runs this series than the last time we played the Twins. In 2006 we scored 3 runs in the entire 3 game series.
  11. are we sure that was actually kouske and not a cardboard cutout of him?
  12. There must be a crap load of twins fans there. I was in my backyard and I heard a super loud cheer. I normally don't hear cheers from my house all that loudly so I assumed a Cub did something really good. Upon checking my phone I see it's a twins homer.
  13. Positive thought of the day: I only had to go back 3 seasons to find EIGHT different examples of teams with similar or worse starts than this Cubs team only to come back and win at least 89 games and/or make the playoffs. 08 Dodgers 28-30 08 Brewers 30-28 08 Mets 42-44 07 Yankees 38-41 06 Twins 25-33 06 Athletics 28-31 06 Padres 32-31 06 Dodgers 47-55 Some of those teams added players, some of those teams won weak divisions, and some of them just plain old got better. So while it seems like half our team is bums and it seems like the offense will never hit again, just remember that you don't have to go back far to find other teams that felt the same way only to have it turned around at the blink of an eye.
  14. I swear I thought that shot off the crossbar with 3 minutes left or so went in. I had to watch the replay 3-4 times before I believed it actually just hit the crossbar and bounced out. Just think, 1 inch separated the Wings from most likely winning the Cup there. It's a bit of a stretch, but I had to believe an OT Game 7 is won by Detroit. Congrats to the Penguins, that was a really enjoyable Game 7...probably not among the all time greatest, but really enjoyable nonetheless. And now we don't have to hear about the Blackhawks being the last home team to lose a Game 7 in the Finals.
  15. I just flipped over to MLB Network and saw that....LOL. Wow. Stupid Mets giving the Cobs new ideas on how to lose games. :hello: Not that the Cobs need new ways to lose games, but wa happened? 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th. Mets up 1 run. Yankees had runner at 1st and 3rd. Easy popup in shallow right field. 2nd baseman Castillo goes back to make the easy catch but clanks it. Tex was the runner on 1st and he came all the way around to score the winning run. Memorable, but not as epic as losing a game when two runs score on a sac fly. Ahh, the 2006 Chicago Cubs. Makes this team look like the '27 Yankees.
  16. The joys of interleague play. The only time you will ever feel like there are too many visiting fans at a game at Wrigley are Cardinals games, and games against AL teams. Sometimes Brewers games nowadays. They see the @ Cubs on the schedule back in February and plan a weekend trip to Chicago to see their team play at Wrigley. It happened last year when the Cubs played the Orioles. When the National Anthem was playing, whenever they say "O say..." all the Orioles fans said "O" in unison to match the word in the song. I guess its some dumb Orioles tradition, but when they did it, it was loud and noticable.
  17. Normally I'd say it shouldn't be hard to find cheap tickets on the street if your willing to wait it out, but there will be massive swarms of rabid DeRosa fan boys/future Mrs. DeRosa's that will be out there looking for tickets to be in the mere presence of The Great One.
  18. Is our curse that bad that even players that are rumored to come to the Cubs have bad things happen to them? First he almost gets traded to methville and now he's hurt.
  19. Bradley's postgame comments were weird. Said something about having a hard time tracking the ball in the sun, and then he just looked towards the crowd and was still seeing "purple and green clovers" and just threw the ball into the stands. Then he realized something was wrong by the crowds reaction. He finished by saying that his heart was in the right place (giving a souvenir to a fan) he just made a mistake.
  20. What's entertaining about today? We finally scored at least a few runs, and the pitching finally gave up a few today. Both were bound to happen eventually, but of course in typical Cub fashion they happened in the same game. I would have been more interested in seeing his comments if we lost another 2-1 extra innings game today. um...yeah...we didnt um.....play very good baseball today. uh....the kid....um Wells had a bad start so....um.....yeah........the team isnt....um....isnt....theyre not playing very good baseball lately. More like "Well...we finally scored a couple of runs today, and then...our pitching staff picked a bad day to finally have a poor game. It's just the way things are going for us right now, what can I say? We're gonna try to build on today's offensive performance after the 5th inning today and try to get em tomorrow." His opening statement to the press conference will probably sound like that. The thing is though, 3 runs does not a good offensive performance make. 4 runs, and I agree, but 4 runs would have won 9 of the Cubs last 13 losses. Lou has been way too rational this year...he will search for a silver lining and say that he hopes we can build on the offensive performance today.

  22. Certainly not this year, or next, or probably 2011. It'll be a while till we have the financial flexibility to make the moves necessary to win it all again. People said it wouldn't happen for a few years after 2006. There are tons of variables that could happen. One of our prospects could suddenly emerge into a young star, we could make a trade and pick up some important pieces, the new owner might want to make a spalsh after his negotiations ruined this season and tell the management to throw more money at FAs, the team could overachieve next year instead of underachieving this year, etc etc. Also, its possible that we get our heads out of our butts and put it together this year. At worst we're 3.5 games out of first after today. I've seen too many teams play .500 ball for 80 game stretches of the season and then make a playoff run to count out the Cubs no matter how inept we look right now.
  23. He only has 3 more guaranteed years. New owners are generally more likely to axe a guy despite that much time on his deal. They can fire him and still make him be a scout or minor league guy, which is where he had his success in this organization. And it's not like anybody would have to be admitting a mistake. You're talking about costing the team maybe a couple million to hire another GM while Hendry is still under contract. Yeah, I neglected to mention the new owner angle, which is very viable, because it killed my argument and I already typed my post out and had my cursor hovered over the "Submit" button, so yeah.
  24. How could you not be looking forward it, what with all the hilarity on the field and such..... At least you know that with every fly ball to the outfield, you have a chance of having a ball thrown to you.
