  1. It's arguably worse to sign Aaron Miles than to commit any crime short of murder.
  2. All I keep saying to myself is "oh my God..." over and over again. Are you kidding me? When I read the thread title I assumed it was like a bar fight or something. Nope he assaulted a cab driver and stole money from him. There goes the neighborhood.
  3. I know it's not football but my baseball teams are always called "CardinalsTakeInPujols"
  4. I'm at a bar and just ordered another drink when I read your post. This is Greggs first save attempt since the blowup last weekend.
  5. The Mets have become the haven for mediocre Cubs OF prospects much like the Orioles are a haven for all failed top Cubs prospects.
  6. our "ace" has missed almost a month when this is over with injuries, our best pitcher this year is hurt for 3 weeks, our most consistent pitcher last year has battled injuries and ineffectiveness, our pitcher with supposedly the most talent has been wildly inconsistent. And that doesn't even include significant injuries to Soto, Ramirez and Johnson. I guess in the interest of fairness, Bradley has amazingly stayed healthy, soriano has been healthy all year, we got amazing unexpected contributions from Wells and Hart for awhile. So it isn't all negative, but it's been a weird season.
  7. i think that catch against the seahawks was probably the biggest catch in bears history. not best, mind you, but most important. Maybe in the last 40 years. The Bears have won what 9 world titles in their history? So a catch to seal a win in the 2nd round of a 4 round tournament, a tournament the Bears ultimately didn't win can't be the biggest. I do agree that it was bigger than any catch made in 85 and before that the last time the Bears advanced to the championship game was in the 60s.
  8. I had a dream that UMFan83 woke up and couldn't post stuff on the board, but I woke up. [/sigh] ouch Fred ouch.
  9. Who is really starting tonight when Demp goes down? I had a dream that Dempster couldn't go today and so when I went to todays game thread I saw "Cubs (Farnsworth) @ Rockies (Marquis)". Yes apparently we had to reacquire the Farns and start him. What a horrible dream.
  10. I'm assuming we picked up Beltran right?
  11. I liked Orton when he was here. I liked him coming out of college, I liked how he performed as a super conservative game manager in 05 (although lets face it he was severely limited in 05 and the defense was the only reason that the strategy worked a la Flacco in Baltimore last year), I liked how he turned into the bearded drunk while he was in 3rd QB exile while secretly working on his game, and I loved how he came out of the gates last season. You can blame it on the ankle injury, and obviously his numbers declined after that injury, but something caused him to greatly regress as the season went on. In the first part he was really playing smart, rarely made a bad decision and worked with his limitations. The season half he looked like Rex Grossman at times, just throwing the ball into the defense and later claiming he didn't see the LB right in front of his face. Was it the ankle injury or was it defenses scheming him properly or both? Who knows, but whatever it was he did well enough to get this team to 9-7 despite a mediocre defense and recieving corps.
  12. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-08-cubs-rockies-chicago-aug08,0,1002895.story It is a bit odd how they handled this. Lou was ready to pitch him out of the damn bullpen this week despite the injury. Z surely threw side sessions and had trainers looking at him all week and apparently didn't experience any pain at all because I'm sure if there was any doubt about his availability tonight, there would have been some sort of contingency plan, as its obvious the Cubs didn't have any in place. So the way logic would suggest, Z feels major pain in his back on Saturday, doesn't feel any pain the day after, allowing the coaching staff to believe he just had minor back pains from sleeping wrong or something, he throws side sessions and doesn't feel any sort of pain all week, and then tonight while warming up he feels his first pain since last Saturday. Either that or Z wasn't telling everyone the whole story, which really ended up screwing the team over, if true because not only did we likely lose a game because of it, we completely burned our bullpen in the first game of a critical 7 game stretch against contenders.
  13. I don't know how they do it, but the White Sox are the average fan's dream type team. The type of fan that is always clammoring for their team to be involved with every available player. Peavy is available, they get him, Rios somehow is the mystery team that got to claim him. I'm not saying they are doing anything special that we aren't doing, but they just end up at the right place at the right time a lot. I'm kinda starting to see the strategy Kenny Williams uses and I seem to like it. Every offseason they sell off parts and I think that they have regressed significantly, and then midseason rolls around and they are contending just enough to make a few big moves and become legit. Williams is either one of the smarter GMs in the game or one of the luckiest.
  14. don't really know yet, i don't believe. Damn. Back injuries are probably hard to diagnose. I would assume he's day to day and just getting rest until it feels good enough to pitch.
  15. Our best 2 RBI guys hitting 1-2, how novel. It shows how desperate Lou is to getting value out of Bradley because at the beginning of the season he would never have considered a lineup where his 2 best lefty hitters are hitting 1-2 in the order and not another lefty until the 7th spot. For your own personal edification, our best 2 RBI guys are hitting 4th & 3rd respectively. Percentage of baserunners driven in........ 04/06 - 08/05 BDI LOB RBI% Ramirez 24 73 0.247 Fox 18 55 0.247 D Lee 50 155 0.244 Fukudome 30 105 0.222 Theriot 35 144 0.196 Soriano 29 144 0.168 Johnson 16 83 0.162 Fontenot 26 139 0.158 Soto 19 107 0.151 Bradley 19 108 0.150 Hoffpauir 17 101 0.144 Baker 4 24 0.143 Blanco 8 50 0.138 Scales 4 29 0.121 K. I meant to say our two best OBP guys, not RBI. Bradley is horrible at producing RBIs
  16. He's been slumping huh? Edit: .698 OPS the last 7 games not including today.
  17. So our next 3 series are against the Nationals, Pirates and Reds right?? *crosses fingers*
  18. Doesn't feel like it when whenever a player goes off the DL another player gets hurt within 2 days.
  19. Still hurting from last game. Now that Z appears more hurt than the Cubs thought/let on how dumb was it to suggest that Z was going to pitch out of the pen last week?
  20. how long can our LOOGY pitch in a spot start before the sharks and heilmans of the world have to pitch multiple innings?
  21. Someone should tell Marshall his breaking ball isn't effective at coots. Our pen is gonna be screwed after this game. Split is best case 1 out of 4 is probably what we will get. If we get swept were in quite a bit of trouble cause I don't see Pittsburgh beating the cards
