I never really thought about how much I worry about the Bears schedule to start the season until today. There are some really good teams to start the season, and 3 of the first 5 are on the road. I'm just worried that because of the fluky nature of football sometimes, if we drop a couple of close games to good teams even if we've played well in them it could hurt the momentum that has built up over the offseason. I think in the first 5 games we are capable of going 4-1, but also 1-4 if a few things break the wrong way. We should be somewhere in the middle though. We can survive 2-3, and I'd feel pretty good about 3-2. Here is the schedule to start the season in case people forgot: @ Green Bay vs. Pittsburgh @ Seattle vs. Detroit Bye @ Atlanta Comments (with pessimism and optimism about each, except Detroit which is all optimism) Green Bay is a tough rivalry game, and both teams have shown that no matter what the records are or talent level is, surprising things can happen. But, although GB was clearly better than their record last year (outscored opponents by 30+ points but finished 6-10), this is the start of their 3-4 defense and we should be able to move the ball on them with ease. Getting Pittsburgh for your home opener is a really tough draw, but I guess since we have to play Pittsburgh this season, having them at home at a time where the fans and players will be charged up isn't so bad (since Pittsburgh can play in the cold like the best of them), but it's still Pittsburgh. I just never feel comfortable playing in Seattle. Seattle should be improved, but playing at Qwest Field worries me quite a bit, although we did play well there in 07 and only lost by a TD. Detroit should be a breeze at home, I would chalk this up to a guaranteed win, and with the bye week after, there is no reason for this to be a trap game. Finally Atlanta, scene of the crime (crime being theft of a win and a playoff bearth). Assuming Atlanta picks up where it left off last year, this should be another tough but winnable game. And I'd rather play Atlanta after a bye than Detroit.
