  1. Saturday in October? Boo Tailgating in the morning, watch your Hawkeyes at 11, then drink your way til 7PM, Hawks raise the banner! I just hope it doesn't conflict with a Cubs playoff game. ha ha ha HA.
  2. I'm excited about the final matches of group play starting today, but today's is kinda meh, as there is only really 1 spot to be decided, that being runner up in Group B. Although I guess it will be interesting to see how France comes out today with all the drama and the desperate need to score 3+ goals when they haven't scored one all tournament.
  3. In an ideal offseason, if we could get under the cap and keep these players, I'd be ecstatic: Kane Toews Sharp Hossa Keith Seabrook Hammer Soupy Niemi Bolland --------prospects Beach Lalonde Obviously I'd like to keep other guys who are almost definitely going to be here like Brouwer, either Versteeg or Buff, Fraser, Kopecky, but if we could somehow finish this offseason with the above guys, I think we'd be contenders in the West again. Maybe not the team that certain experts claimed are "so much better than every other team in the league", but good enough that it wouldn't be a shock to see them go for a repeat. The West is so good though, I felt like the margin between teams like Vancouver, Detroit and San Jose and the Hawks is not as big as we liked to believe last year. Also teams like Colorado are going to be a concern, depending on what they do with their cap space.
  4. Kaberle is as good as Campbell, and his contract would disappear next season, giving the the Hawks a season to groom some dmen for a 2nd pairing role. The huge dropoff would be at forward. I am not saying this is a good player deal for the Hawks, but if they can unload Campbells contract and get a top 4 dman back for next season, it is a good deal in my eyes. Crap, I should have used quotes. That reply was meant for Sulley. I'd be ok with that, although ideally we could keep our top 2 defensive lines in tact. But I realize how bad Campbell's deal is and how fortunate we'd be to rid ourselves of it.
  5. Thank you schedule makers!!!! The Blackhawks will raise their championship banner in their home opener next year against......................................THE DETROIT RED WINGS on October 9th. They open the season at Colorado on Oct 7. That means only 107 more days until the season begins.
  6. You want to just drop one of your top 4 defensemen and get nothing in return? I mean if you said "you can make Campbell's contract disappear right now" I'd have to strongly consider it. But I'd rather see if we can get something, being a pick, a prospect, or a minimum salary roster filler for him.
  7. He still worked 2 matches too many.
  8. OK, this started off making sense, and then ended up like 30 different kinds of crazy. I hope people know that the bottom paragraph is in jest. If that situation were to occur, I would obviously feel pretty confident. My point was that it would take more than other teams I follow to believe that they are going to actually win the title. And the other thing is, I say this now but if the Cubs actually won the pennant, I'd be cocky and probably expect the cubs to win it. But sitting here so far away from the prize, and remembering all the disappointments of the last decade, it's a little harder to rationalize. Id say there's probably a 60% chance that the Cubs win in my lifetime, taking into account the Cubs front office, a possible early tragic death, a world war that puts baseball on hiatus, a huge economic crisis that causes the MLB to go bankrupt and the Cubs ceasing to exist, and other unknowns. Assuming I live to at least 80 and the Cubs are around for every one of those years, I'd say closer to 75-80. They have to luck into it one year.
  9. I never realized this but if USA and Mexico both finish 2nd in their groups they'd be on pace for a QF matchup. Funny thing is, according to Nate Silver's odds, that setup would occur with Ghana somehow winning the group and playing USA while Argentina winning their group and playing mexico. Sadly, I don't see Mexico getting past Argentina. I'm getting way ahead of myself though.
  10. I don't know why I thought that was funny but I did.
  11. I guess their point is you get a servicable and cheaper D player back, as well as a forward with upside and also cheaper. There are 2 ways you can look at what the Hawks have to do, you can trade for slightly lesser skilled veterans for your younger and more skilled players, of you can try to use this situation to stockpile prospects draft picks and younger players that haven't reached their potential yet. I think the Hawks are looking more of the later.
  12. In that case, you are very dumb. Thanks TT
  13. Put it this way.... I'm a big fan of Emmanuelle Chriqui, but I have no faith that I will ever hook up with her. Every day I find myself rooting for this to happen but I have pretty much lost any hope that it will. If I ever met her, I might gain a little faith (Cubs contend for the playoffs), if we talked and she started flirting with me, my faith would get higher (Cubs win the NLDS), if she asked me to come back to her place with her, I'd feel pretty confident about my chances (Cubs reach WS). But as of right now the odds of meeting her and me actually appearing attractive enough to hook up with her are quite low, so I don't have any faith it will happen. It's a little different for the Cubs though. They could be up 3-0 in the World Series with a 27-0 lead in the bottom of the ninth and randomly a time portal opened up and out stepped May 6, 1998 Kerry Wood, and he was deemed eligable to play for the Cubs and was inserted into the game with no one on, and 2 outs and 2 strikes on Neifi Perez, and I'm still not more than 75% certain the Cubs can win the World Series.
  14. A similarly bad Cubs team had a 19 page game thread on Father's Day 2006. IIRC the weather was really nice that day too. I only remember because that was the date of Prior's first start of the year and he got shelled by the Tigers.
  15. Holy crap...it was 1-0 when I left for work and it finished 7-0 lol. I wonder how the North Korea press is going to spin this. "Despite change to American football scoring, North Korea hangs tough vs. Portugal"
  16. I thought I heard on the radio that Ron was going to Seattle because that's where he's from. Guess not.
  17. When was the last time Lou seemed "all that happy" to you ?? During batting practice before game 1 of the 08 NLDS? It's kind of weird to see yet another well regarded manager limp his way to the conclusion of his contract after all the fanfare that was had when they began their Cubs career. Each one promised they were going to do good things and take the Cubs to a World Series. They all professed that they did not feel like the Cubs were cursed or that there was any difference between this club and the other 29 teams. I'm not saying there is, but its strangely fascinating to see the life slowly being kicked out of these guys. Baylor and Baker looked depressed and overwhelmed during the end of their tenures, while Lou is somewhere in la la land and seems like he can't come to grips with how things have turned out in his tenure with the team. I kind of want the next manager to be a nobody at least in the minds of the casual Cubs fan. I am sick of the fanfare surrounding our manager, but I think the powers that be want a manager they can market. I want a boring ass manager that is never the star of the show.
  18. Lou didn't seem all that happy after this one.
  19. LOL at the thought of France having to score 3 goals.
  20. I think its probably smart of Nashville to do this. They really kind of maxed out the talent they had there. They need to pick up some scoring now.
  21. I take that as "I have to make some sort of appearance I guess"
  22. Agreed, great job getting space.
  23. Why did ABC hold up a graphic saying offsides on that 2nd denmark goal. Weird. The score still says 1-1 but the announcers are saying its 2-1. Stupid Americans.
  24. It's only June 19th. Plenty of time you quitter.
  25. I like Dan Hamhuis, but isn't he a UFA in a few days? I'm assuming Philly wouldn't have went for him if they werent gonna resign him though.
