  1. Is this a guess or something u read?
  2. lol thanks Bill Simmons
  3. 4th guy still makes 32 starts. It also means less innings for the bullpen. And no bullpen is as effective as whoever their 4th guy is gonna be. The playoffs have to be a formality even before Lee. What I was wondering was whether it was worth spending their resources on a 4th ace quality starter, or address an offense that got worse in the offseason. A team like the Giants isn't going to get lucky every year and win with mediocre offense. A 4th starter would probably pitch 2 times max in the playoffs. That 4th pitcher might be Cole Hamels, who basically carried the team to a World Series 2 years ago on the strength of his starts. In fact, he won the World Series MVP award. Just crazy he might be put in a position where he pitches 2 times all postseason en route to a world series title.
  4. Hopefully they will combine to score 20 points this week. Why, you want the Bears to win 9-6 or something? :banghead: I mean MORE than 20 points. Gah
  5. Solid move to push Baltimore over the top. I see they are getting him at an affordable price as well. Bravo MacPhail!
  6. 5%? A street free agent won't beat out Webb. I think it will be at TCF and Brett will play. Yeah, it's sounding like Brett's going to play. He can't lose his final MNF game, right? Dunno, the man doesn't have a track record of finishing a portion of his career on top, considering in 2 of his 3 last games with a team he threw a pick to lose the NFC championship, and in the other he threw a pick to knock his team out of the playoffs.
  7. I thought that it made my comment more badass.
  8. From that article: I remember people bitching about Ben Gordon not getting calls back in the day too.
  9. The Packers lost by 4 points at less than full strength on the road and still put up a solid defensive performance. The Bears got destroyed by 29 points at pretty much full strength at home and struggled mightily on both offense and defense. Yet the Bears move ahead. I know you all are thinking it. No I will never be satisfied with the power rankings :)
  10. Hopefully they will combine to score 20 points this week.
  11. It's a good point, but had to mention that the Flyers record last year wouldn't have even gotten them a sniff of the playoffs last year. And the West seems to be going that way again this year.
  12. Probably getting robbed of free throws on those too! What are you the homer slayer? Every team's fanbase has homers, and most know they are being homers. You made your point repeatedly and have done it in a variety of ways, the least effective of which is sarcasm. It's time to move on to something else guy.
  13. And it's a good thing, what with him being such a marksman from the line. If the entire NBA wasn't so busy inadvertantly attacking him, maybe he'd be healthy enough to hit his free throws. Rondo takes half as many shots as Rose, and is not even the 3rd scoring option that defenses key in on stopping. Rose is cutting through double teams and driving to the hole constantly. And Rose takes more than twice as many free throws. What do # of shot attempts have to do with anything? Where do you think Rondo's assists are coming from? Just standing at the top of the key handing the ball off to Ray Allen? He creates through dribble penetration and opens up teammates by drawing defenders to him. Despite drawing these secondary defenders, he does not get to the free throw line. I'm saying he's not heavily defensed as a scoring option because he takes half as many shots as Rose. Obviously he's a big part of an opponents defensive game plan, but Rose is someone who at times is the entire Bulls offense and defenses throw everything at him. Rose has the 2nd lowest FTA per FGA in the NBA for high volume shooters. I honestly can't remember what the qualification was for high volume shooter and I'm having trouble finding the article I got that from (its on RealGM somewhere), but Danny Granger is the only one with less.
  14. So in one game they've proven they can't compete. In a game where the Bulls were returning from a lenghthy road trip (it's commonly believed that game is a big trap for teams). In a game where we were incorporating what is supposed to be our number 2 scorer into the rotation, when our point guard has never had a low post player to work into the offense in his NBA career. One game. Considering the Bulls have replaced 6 of their 10 rotation players from last year to this year, I wouldn't necessarily consider last year's results relevant. You are right that Orlando is a tough matchup against the Bulls IMO, which is obvious on paper. Orlando is a great team, and they are probably but not definitely better than the Bulls. I don't think the Bulls are quite at the Miami, Boston, Orlando level yet, but then again I hold my final judgement when I see how this team evolves over the course of the season. Boozer has played like 8 games with the team. It can take 2 months to really get comfortable with a big part of the offense like that.

  16. Exactly. This is a scenario where if the Cubs really wanted someone like Webb or Garza, they should have done everything possible to complete the deal quickly. I don't know why Hendry was fooling around, especially with Webb. He has to have medical records and input from doctors at this point. Either [expletive] or get off the pot. Now, if we do sign him, it's going to cost a hell of a lot more. Well the reason I didn't blame Hendry for not moving quickly is because it's completely unknown whether the hesitation was on Henrdry's or on Webb's/the Rays' to let the market play out.

  18. I knew that the rest of our schedule set up well for us to rack up the wins, but seeing it tallied up like this is pretty sweet. Yeah I was looking at ESPN's "Projected playoff standings" page the other day and saw the number of games left vs. .500 teams. The Bulls have 19 left, and the next least amount for a team is 22. But most teams have between 25-27 left. The Lakers have 29 left lol.
  19. Is is true that the rooftop across the street from Wrigley already added 5 years to the championship and pennant portions of the "AC" sign?
  20. Why not? Pitching wins championships, and it's not like they have any trouble scoring runs. I guess. It's just crazy that someone like Roy Oswalt or Cole Hamels won't likely be needed in a 5 game series. I'm just really surprised that they have the resources to sign him. Halladay, Oswalt, Lee, Howard, Rollins, Utley and Ibanez all have massive contracts, I believe. I know they lost Werth but I don't think he was making too much.
  21. Wonder if the Phillies are going to try to sign Brandon Webb to complete the all #1 starter rotation.
  22. I don't understand the point of having 4 aces on your team. I mean I do, but there has to be some sort of cap to Philly's payroll and they have to be nearing it. Is it smart to use a large portion of your resources on having a 4th ace caliber pitcher?
  23. You are right. I was thinking of the season after they lost to Detroit in the Cup finals. Same idea though. They were 27-25-6 in mid February and we're on the playoff bubble. Immediately after, they caught fire and went 13-2-3 in their next 18 games and eventually won the Cup. I still don't think they miss the playoffs. They will play better. Hopefully. Maybe.
  24. lol, former Bear Mark Anderson with a key sack to end the Ravens drive.
  25. I said this before the season. When young talented players reach the mountain top so early in their careers, its hard to come back with that same drive they had the previous season with their whole careers in front of them. It happened to some degree to Pittsburgh too. The Hawks don't have a big enough veteran presence carried over from last year to keep the young guys focused. This is my belief, but it's obviously really hard to quantify.
