    Interestingly, this will be the Patriots first game in Chicago since 2000. New England is one of two teams to have never played in the new Soldier Field. The other is the Jets. The Jets actually haven't played in Chicago since 1997. The obvious reason why it's been so long, is they both played road games against the Bears in 2002, while the Bears played in Champaign. This is only the 11th time that the Bears and Patriots have ever played a regular season game (12 overall). The Pats are 7-3 against the Bears going into the game tomorrow. (0-1 in the postseason :))

    Yeah I thought the play was about even. The Blackhawks didnt get a ton of really good chances, but neither did SJ

    [expletive]. We played really well in the game...both teams did. At least we didnt get dominated. We had much better chances in OT though. Dammit Crawford's winning streak is over.

    Posts like this miss me miss Cynosure and the reaction he would have had to this. I also would have loved to see his reaction to winning the Cup. Where are you Cyno.

    The stat I'll always remember is that Z only allowed 9 home runs all season in 2003. In Game 1 of the NLCS, he allowed 3 homers in the span of 4 batters. Awful.

    It's becoming increasingly likely that we are gonna be playing in terrible conditions tomorrow. I'm hearing with the winds and heavy snowfall we might be seeing a whiteout effect during the game. The snow is quite possibly gonna neutralize any kind of gameplan for either side and even up the talent I would think. The winner will be whoever handles the elements better.

    Couldn't agree more. As great as that season was, the way it ended pretty much ruined all the good memories. That video was depressing to me knowing how close we got. That's crazy becuase in 03, losing didn't hurt the memories of getting there, but in 08 when we got swept I still to this day haven't really thought much about the 08 season that got us to the playoffs. I think in 03, the playoff run was a bit unexpected, and plus we felt confident that we'd make it back there in 04 with our rotation, bolstered by the additions of Lee, Hawkins, Barrett and Maddux.

    I still think the 2004 team was the best team we've had on paper during the Hendry regime. Honestly I don't think that's arguable. I'd have to side with 2004, but 2008's team looked pretty good towards the end of the year. I loved the pitching on paper as much as 2004's. Zambrano, Harden, Dempster, Lilly, stupid head. Prior, Wood, Zambrano, Clement, Maddux. Offense, the Cubs had a crapload of power in 04, but 08 had much more patience. Lee vs. Lee is a slight adv to '08 Lee. Walker/Grudz vs. DeRosa, adv DeRo. Nomar vs. Theriot, adv Nomar. Ramirez 04 vs. Ramirez 08, slight adv '04 Ramirez. Alou vs. Soriano, adv Alou. Patterson vs. Edmonds, adv Edmonds. Sosa vs. Fukudome, adv slightly Sosa even though he was awful. Barrett vs. Soto adv Soto.

    It would be completely awesome if we could win on Sunday, and while it would definitely hurt our playoff chances if we lose, it wouldn't be devistating. That takes a bit of the pressure off.

    A lot of fans were turned off by his homerism, but to me that made him all the more endearing. Exactly. I don't understand why people would get upset at that. He is a Cubs announcer, he should be a Cubs homer. He was one of us, a fan who just happened to be in the booth. And Sox fans feel the same way about Hawk. It's all a matter of perspective. I don't care, I love him and will miss him I can't really put a finger on it. I feel like there's a difference between Santo's homerism and Hawk's.

    I wish NSBB still had the threads from the 2003 season. I used to peruse them occasionally. I only started posting during the playoffs, but there were some good memories shared. I wish I could remember what the Game 6 thread was like when "it" happened.

    Wow....FO has the Pats offense as number 1 in the league by a significant margin. The 2nd place team (Houston) has a DVOA of 29.6%. The Pats DVOA is 48.2%. The Bears BTW, remain 30th at -13.8%. Makes sense why the Patriots are #1 overall despite having the #26th defense.

    Man I HATE going to the World Series and competing favorably each year in a division with 2 teams that have $150 million more in payroll than the Rays. So glad I'm not a Rays fan.

    So odd that players keep coming back way earlier than originally thought. I don't know if Q is rushing them back or whatnot, but its nice to see them hopefully come back soon.

    Wow Fisher should be fired for how he handled the clock on that last drive. 32 seconds left, no timeouts, down 9 on the 20 yard line, he throws short of the end zone twice. One gets out of bounds, 1 is 2 yards short of the end zone in the middle of the field. By the time Collins spiked the ball there was only 4 seconds left on the clock. I don't know why they don't kick the FG in those situations. Yes the TD is harder, and yes the FG might miss, but you need to put yourself in a position where you have the ball and need 1 score to tie/win. Meaning, kick the FG, make it a one possession game and try your onside kick. If he kicks a FG and recovers an onside he has probably 24 seconds left to make something happen.

    My guess is that considering that Fukudome will be a 34 year old FA after this upcoming year, his future as it pertains to the Cubs is pretty much next year only. Meanwhile, Tyco is younger, cheaper and has a long term potential with the Cubs. Trading fukudome would be all about creating space for Colvin to play every day.

    Maybe they realize the year to year volitility of middle relievers and are trying to maximize his value.

    And yes, Quade has been in this organization long enough to know that you have split up your righties in the middle of the order. Pena will hit 4th.

    So as of now their lineup is something like LF - Carl Crawford 2B - Dustin Pedroia 1B - Adrian Gonzalez 3B - Kevin Youkilis DH - David Ortiz RF - JD Drew CF - Jacoby Ellsbury C - Jarred Saltalamacchia SS - Marco Scutaro The bottom of that lineup is still not great. They basically replaced Victor Martinez and Adrian Beltre with Saltalamacchia and Gonzalez and then added Crawford.

    You guys act like Illinois is Kansas. With all due respect to the program but it's definitely a step below. As an outsider, I feel like Webber has done a great job. Even considering firing him would be a horrilbe idea.
