  1. Also without putting much thought into it, probably best coach to never win a "coach of the year" award
  2. Now imagine if the Cubs drafted Pujols! Now that's a talented lineup!! That's true. They passed on him several times in the draft the Cardinals nabbed him. What could have been...
  3. I read somewhere that last year Frolik was considered an untouchable player for the Panthers. I know he's had a bad season. I wonder why the drop in performance.
  4. I don't think you understand. He previously did a lot of coke when he was a failed top pick of the Rays. His life bottomed out and he rejuvinated his career, swearing off intoxicants and accepting God in his life. After several all star years, he is now getting rewarded with a $24 million extension over the next 2 seasons. The joke is that he's gonna go out and blow it all on cocaine, which is what he probably would have done 5 seasons ago!!!
  5. yeah definitely seems like one of those 'hey jerry, we love you and all but..can you just make this easier on all of us and resign' resignations. But then again, he signed an extension fairly recently right?
  6. first thought: omg we are coach killers second thought: omg he's been the Jazz coach since I was 5. Never expected that to happen.
  7. Obviously it would also help to have a plan in place to upgrade the facilities for the home team at Wrigley in order to woo Pujols to sign here. If the Cubs are offering the most money, then they'll likely win (against anyone but STL), but if money is similar from multiple teams, you have to think little things like that are going to sway him. Especially because I remember him saying somewhat critical things about the facilities at Wrigley before.
  8. yeah this is not 2005 anymore. The only tickets that really command a high price are Cardinals weekend, Yankees, Red Sox, and White Sox, and even the Cardinals and White Sox tickets are only slightly inflated
  9. I'm not sure what point you are trying to make. A) Bulls fans say Denver would be stupid to hold onto Melo and lose him for nothing B) Bulls fans do not want to give up Noah for Melo C) Melo gets traded to Knicks for a mediocre return that we could have bettered without trading Noah Result: Bulls fans shouldn't get upset? What package do the Bulls have that could better what the Knicks are offering? What is NY's offer again? Wilson Chandler and at least 1 draft pick seem to be the only constants. Curry's expiring deal, Anthony Randolph, an additional draft pick, or the T-Wolves draft pick(in lieu of the Knicks) have been bandied about as additions. Well I don't know then. I havent really been paying close enough attention, but I thuoght that is what you were implying in your original post. Given the year Chandler has been having, I find it hard for the Bulls to match him even with Noah included (considering his extension and BYC status). Deng exceeds him in ability, but his contract makes his value dwarf Chandler's. The Bulls aren't really matched up to make a legit move for Carmelo unless Melo came out and said he wanted to come here more than anywhere else. Of the 5 carryovers from last year's Bulls team, Rose and Noah are virtually untradable for Pax, Taj is a good secondary piece for a trade, Deng has value but an awful contract that doesn't justify his worth, and James Johnson is a throw in at best. The best offer the Bulls can reasonably offer anyone (without Rose and Noah) is Deng, Taj, Brewer, and the Bobcats pick and/or a future Bulls 1st. That almost certanily not enough to beat a Knicks offer at this point.

  11. Without knowing anything else about it, statistically he looks a little like Versteeg albeit with declining numbers this year. Versteeg: 08-09 22G 31A 53P +15 55PIM 6PP 4SH 3GW 15.8% (139 S) 09-10 20 24 44 + 8 35 4 3 4 10.9% (184 S) 10-11 14 21 35 -13 29 5 0 0 11.1% (126 5) Frolik 08-09 21G 24A 45P +10 22PMM 1PP 0SH 2GW 13.3% (158 S) 09-10 21G 22A 43P - 4 43PIM 5 0 1 9.6% (219 S) 10-11 8G 21A 29P + 2 16PIM 1 0 1 5.1% (158 S)
  12. No discussion of the Asik for Courtney Lee rumor?
  13. I had high hopes for Skille a couple of years ago. At least he helped the Hawks out by getting traded. Great trade. Hopefully this will give us even a little scoring burst. Is he a 2 way player, aka is he any good defensively?
  14. It doesn't help when Rose drives the lane and 3 Jazz players make contact across his arms and no foul is called.
  15. I don't think they will but I certainly don't think a person is immediately dumb if they think so. At least until further questioning.
  16. I would say that the Hawks should get 2 points tonight from a really really bad Oilers team who is at the bottom of the NHL in points, but the Hawks have already lost 2 games in regulation to them this year, giving them 1/8th of their wins this year.
  17. I'm not sure. We obviously went 24-13 to finish the season, and before that stretch we played 66 win baseball over the first 125 games (51-74). I don't want to outright dismiss the 24-13 finish, but it was a bit hollow IMO. The pitching was very good but the hitting was actually worse than it was before Quade took over. I am going to guess our pythag record over those 37 games was not anywhere near 24-13. Plus a bunch of those games are part of September baseball, with call ups and expanded rosters, etc. It's hard to accurately evaluate a team in those settings. It's possible they could be worse than last year but I think its more likely they are the same or slightly better. Not sure why PECOTA is down on us this year other than the fact that our team in general is old, although not nearly as old as last year's team.
  18. I agree at this point, but we could have said the same thing about Houston last year and look where they finished compared to us.
  19. I never thought about that but you are absolutely right, at least when he's taking 7 step drops. I have seen him been blindsided plenty of times when protecting breaks down and he's moving around in the pocket.
  20. Thank you so much for this. I was just wondering the other day if they sold tickets to that series yet.
  21. I flipped through a bunch of preseason prognostication magazines (USA Today, Lindys, Athlon, and another one), and 2 of them had the Cubs finishing 4th, the other 2 had them finishing 5th in the Central. The 2 magazines that were updated enough to have Garza on the roster were split (1 4th, 1 5th). No Cubs were mentioned for any awards or anything like that. I feel like 75% of the predictions had Boston vs. Philly in the World Series.
  22. http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2011/02/source-bears-will-sign-punter-richmond-mcgee.html Weird, I would have waited until after teh draft to bring in competition for Maynard, to have a chance to get someone fresh out of college, not necessarily in the draft, but in the FA market afterwards. But then again I'm guessing no one knows when FAs will be able to be signed after teh draft.
  23. I was totally expecting Dusty to say "We're gonna win the Central with ease. All the teams in the division suck and got worse."
  24. Not only is Hester not cutting it, he's taking the number of snaps that a 3rd or 4th WR would take. I'm sure the Bears don't see him as a number 1 or 2 receiver at this point, hence the reason they let him take less snaps to concentrate on returning this year
