  1. That was definitely my concern too. It's not really difficult to imagine the Cubs doing that.
  2. That's somewhat good news. I was worried he'd be out for a lot longer and I'm hoping for big things this year from him.
  3. Really frustrating that Angelo has placed all his trust in Mike Tice turning marginal talents into a passable line, especially with all the money we can spend.
  4. The Astros should probably find some of those mythical "replacement level" pitchers to pitch for them.
  5. The Cubs should be trying to drum up support from the players union to go on strike until next August so they can fit in a 2 month season.
  6. lol, the VP of officiating called Soldier Field during the game last night to tell the Bears to stop kicking off from the 30 yard line.
  7. Jim Hendry's prized GMing at work again. John Grabow everyone
  8. Sorry if this was posted already. Nothing shocking.
  9. Same When you have a top 5 payroll and play in one of the biggest markets in baseball it is simply unacceptable to make 2 playoff appearances in an 8 year span. It is definitely unacceptable to lose 90+ games 3+ times in a decade as well. If those were Jim Hendrys results as GM of the Royals, he gets an extension. But he is the GM of a team that has all the resources in the world to build a contender and he can only occasionally do it. I honestly have no idea what kind of spell Hendry holds on the Cubs organization. He probably should have been fired after 2006, but instead got an extension after building an 85 win playoff team the next season. I know Hendry is a people person but geez. I've been defending Ricketts from people here saying that it's too soon to judge them etc. But if they keep Hendry, it says all I need to know about Tom Ricketts.
  10. Between his performance in the NFC Title game and his strong performances every preseason, if Jay Cutler has a bad game or two and the meatballs will be out in full force demanding Hanie.
  11. Making judgements in preseaon games is pointless but Barber >>> Taylor
  12. Were you expecting it to? Bad players after a really short practice period? Looking for justification for not spending any money on the line besides the backup C. You are allowed to be bad but 3 sacks in 8 plays and 3 2 yard runs. The Qb has dropped back to pass 5 times and hasn't been able to get off an overhand pass yet.
  13. Man I really hope the line is better than this. That did not look like an NFL caliber line out there tonight.
  14. Cutler is gone from the game. Did not throw an overhand pass in his first preseason game. The oline needs a ton of work. First three plays in the second series: 2 yard run and back to back sacks. About as brutal of a start for the line as you could possibly have. $20 million left in cap space....
  15. Major Wright looking fairly sharp so far.
  16. Wow, not a good start for the line. Cutler dropped back to pass 3 times, once the play quickly broke down and he threw an underhanded to forte for no gain, the 2nd time the play broke down again and Cutler scrambled for a first. The third time he was sacked. Also several running plays went for little gain. Also Corey Wooten wa injured on the kickoff and out for the game.
  17. Dude that's awesome by Soriano. Most know I'm one of the biggest Soriano haters on the board, sometimes almost always irrationally. But he won a lot of respect from me by doing that.
  18. I'm not sure the last time the nfl had a must-watch defensive player, maybe LT, but suh is pretty much in that category Clay Matthews. LOL
  19. Yeah where is HoopsCubs at?
  20. What about when he didn't shy away from Bonds after throwing up and in at him? I think that was in 03. I miss bad ass Z. That was Prior.
  21. I'm trying to think up all the zany things that Zambrano has done as a Cub...anyone got any I missed? July 2004: Gives up a home run to Jim Edmonds, and points and yells at him while rounding the bases. Later on in the game, he gives up a homer to Scott Rolen, and immediately plunks Edmonds with his next pitch and is ejected. 2004ish: Throws a temper tantrum on the mound and throws his hat after an error by Todd Walker. April 2005: Gets the opening day start, and manages to get ejected for arguing balls and strikes after 4 2/3 innings with the Cubs holding a big lead. July 2006: Has to sit out the All Star game after getting hit by Joey Cora's fungo bat during pregame warmups. June 2007: Gets into a fight with Michael Barrett in the dugout after Barrett allows a passed ball and commits in error during a big inning for the opponents. After punches were thrown in the clubhouse, the fight eventually continues inside the clubhouse. The next day, it is revealed that Barrett was rushed to the hospital to put stitches in his lip after a Zambrano punch. September 2007: Fans boo Zambrano while he's walking off the mound following a very poor performance during a pennant race. Zambrano responds by pointing to his head and yelling to himself. Later, he calls out Cubs fans, saying they only care about themselves and that he doesn't accept the booing. May 2009: Zambrano is ejected from a game against the Pirates for arguing a close play at the plate. Zambrano then loses it, getting into a shouting match with the umpire, and bumping him in the process. He then throws the game ball into left field and tossed his glove aside as well. Finally after leaving the field, he takes out his frustrations out on the new Gatorade machine, striking it several times with a baseball bat, effectively destroying it. He ends up suspended for 6 games for bumping the umpire. The next day, he misses the team flight to Atlanta and is temporarily missing. May 2010: After a slow start to the season, Zambrano is randomly moved to the bullpen. Zambrano takes the demotion well in public and is moved back into the rotation 3 weeks later. June 2010: After a bad 1st inning, Zambrano throws a tirade in the dugout, which leads to an altercation with Derrek Lee caught on camera. He is removed from the game and immediately sent home. He is later suspended indefinitely by the team and ordered to take anger management classes. May 2011: After a poor performance by Carlos Marmol where he blows a game to the rival Cardinals, Zambrano lashes out at the team, saying they "stinks" and are playing like a minor league team and are embarrassing. He then questions Marmol's pitch selection and decision making, drawing angry responses from Cubs management. August 2012: After a very poor start where he gives up 5 home runs in less than 5 innings, Zambrano responds by throwing inside on Chipper Jones on consecutive pitches, the second one way inside and leading to an immediate ejection. After he leaves the game, Zambrano packs up his locker and leaves, telling various Cubs personnel that he is retiring on his way out the door. Didn't even get into the numerous times he has had to leave starts due to craps in his arm due to too much texting and/or not eating enough potassium. Also haven't mentioned the number of times he has struck out and then broken a bat over his knee.
  22. Im assuming this was said with the biggest [expletive] smile on Hendrys face ever. I seriously doubt that, since ultimately this reflects very poorly on him, too. I dont think it will reflect on Hendry at all. Almost everybody in the media and such think Z is a headcase and such, so they will all give Hendry a reprieve that Z was just a lost cause, and has a mental problem. All the blame will reflect on Z Hendry signed him to the long term contract. It's not like the crazy stuff started showing up only after the contract extension.
  23. I wonder what happened that we don't know about, because on the surface it looks like Z had a horrible game, gave up 5 HRs, threw at Chipper Jones in frustration, got ejected, and then packed up his things and left during the game and retired.
  24. What a weird dude. God bless Zambrano. I hope he gets the help he clearly needs.
