8-5 in our last 13. That's actually kind of decent, despite the ugly 5 game losing streak. -
Thats a bad excuse though. They had 30+ million to spend in FA. The way the NFL works, you need as much talent and depth as you can possibly get because things change in a hurry. And lets not pretend the Bears were not without glaring flaws despite going to the NFC title game.

If the Cubs play .700 ball for the rest of the season (36-15) they will finish 82-80! PS .700 baseball over a full season is 113-49.

It's not like they spent their money on the players they got though. They still have a ton of it and there are still players out there.

Can't disagree with that. And no excuse with plenty of options, money, and reasons to significantly upgrade OL and WR. Eh, a D seems a little low. I'd say a C/C-. The thing is, the Bears took a lot of high risk/high reward gambles IMO. If one of Roy Williams, Gholston, or Okoye randomly live up to their potential, or even turn into average starters all the sudden the Bears had an good offseason.

I dunno, 900 seems a little high but wouldn't be floored if he developed into a player like that. I am trying to think of a comparable rise for a player who came in really young, showed great hitting skills but not a ton of power for his first couple of seasons and then developed into a .550 SLG kind of player. I think a better comp is still a more consistent, slightly better Renteria. From age 25-30 he was a .303/.360/.434/.795 hitter. Castro isn't far from that now, so we might instead see something like .300/.360/.500 as his peak. That's .860. It's not unreasonable to see him have a career year or two where he brushes with .900 if he can develop into a player who averages an .860 OPS during the later part of his 20's/early 30's

Well it's not just that though. Osi is holding out because he wants to rework his contract. Yeah I obviously understand that. I'm surprised the Bears were in on the discussions because I'd guess if we traded for him Osi would get a contract similar to what Peppers got, and I cant see the Bears committing that much to the defensive line. But seriously, if they had Peppers and Osi on the same line, it would set the entire defense up for awhile.

I would take Osi for a 2nd round pick. Hell I might take him for a 2nd round and 5th round...maybe. Depends on how much we'd have to pay him. Much more than that might be tough to give up. I think he's 29 right now and has averaged 10.5 sacks per season over his last 5 seasons. He's fairly durable too, playing all 16 games in 5 of the last 6 seasons. Him and Peppers on the same line wow.

Nice. It's getting to the point where I can enjoy when this team plays well because I have such low expectations that it's nice when they play over their heads.

PS, which Ortiz was the one that pitched against the Cubs in the 2003 NLDS? I think it was Russ right? Ramon Ortiz Mike Hampton Aging Greg Maddux Were the 3 pitchers they threw at us in that series. No wonder we somehow won. Well, it's not like any of those guys were bad that year, and the Braves had like the best offense in baseball. ETA: I don't remember Karros hitting 2 HRs in a game at all that series. Yeah they had an awesome offense indeed. Look at their normal starting 8 by OPS+ 169 - Javy Lopez (1.065) 165 - Gary Sheffield (1.023) 137 - Chipper Jones (.920) 136 - Marcus Giles (.917) 117 - Andruw Jones (.851) 105 - Rafael Furcal (.794) 97 - Vinny Castilla (.771) 95 - Robert Fick (.753) The pitching though reminds me of the 07-08 Cubs in that, while they didn't have an ace quality pitcher, they had a lot of above average starters, 4 of them hovering between 3.75-4.00 ERA. They could be gotten to and they were to an extent.

According to capgeek, Sharp was expected to have a cap hit of 3.9 million. With this extension (5 years, 30 mil), his cap hit will be somewhere around 6 million. The Hawks have 24 players signed with a projected 950,000 in cap space after Sharp. And I'm assuming since the NHL roster size is 23, one of those players won't make the team thus their contract won't count against the cap. But I'm kinda a NHL cap noob so I don't know if I am 100% right.

Niiiiice. Our core is Kane, Toews, Hossa, Sharp, Seabs, Keith and they are all signed for at least the next 4 seasons. Bolland is a borderline core member and he's signed the next 3 seasons. As shitty as it was to get rid of Ladd, Byfug, Campbell and Versteeg, the fact that we were able to survive our insanly tough cap situation with our 6 best (or at least most important) players signed to long term deals, and still have flexibility to build around them and a lot of young talent is a credit to Stan Bowman and co.

I dunno maybe its just me, but I hope that Williams dominates in camp and in the preseason and then continues it into the season.

Yeah sorry, I think their policy is to not allow Packer fans on the tours. Edit: Tour is about an hour, and I'd say its worth it. My tour started out in that one executives bar/restaurant, then we walked directly up to the press box. Got to walk past the home and away radios, the spanish language, etc, walked past the kitchen in there and then went into the press room where all the beat writers and other media assemble. Then we walked all the way down to the home clubhouse. Couldnt enter it but everything was layed out as if there was a game that day. You could see the weight room and stuff on your way out, and you pass by the toilet and sink that are just before the enterance to the dugout. Then you get to spend a bunch of time in the home dugout, taking photos and being allowed to walk onto the foul ground part of the field (they'll yell at you for touching dirt). Eventually you climb the wall and walk back up the stands into the concourse and then walk into the visitors clubhouse. This clubhouse I could walk in, sit in the dugouts, etc. Nothing was layed out though. Then you are done.

Yeah I actually think at some point Webb will be decent. He is/was extremely raw last year and forced into a starting role because our GM didnt build a competent line. But putting him at LT is suicide.
