  1. It took them 2 years of horrible baseball for them to decide to start over? The Cubs should never feel the need to rebuild from scratch. They have resources that 90% of the teams in the league cannot come close to matching.
  2. http://www.csnchicago.com/08/18/11/Williams-among-Bears-offensive-problems/landing_moon_v3.html?blockID=550554&feedID=9399 LOL wow. What a free agent signing.
  3. Vick has done a lot to improve his personal image since the whole thing went down and has regained a lot of fans, but there are still quite a few people who despise him and will not root for any team he plays on. Are any of them Eagles fans? Vick was the runner up of a nationwide popularity contest to decide the next cover of Madden. He's pretty popular, even though his upcoming GQ article (exerpts on Deadspin today) is odd and he makes a few questionable comments.
  4. If he is released, does that mean that if he signs with another team, he has to wait 50 games before he can start playing for them?
  5. You gotta love the "What can I do, there's no one left to sign that would help us" statements. There were people that could help us like 2 weeks ago, but you didn't go after them, and now the 2nd largest market in the NFL is going to play the season $10 mil under the cap (assuming Forte extension) and hope people don't notice it.
  6. You've never heard of the supplemental draft or you haven't heard any talk about this year's supplemental draft? The NFL supplemental draft. I might have heard of it in passing, but this is the first time someone I've heard of has been eligable.
  7. Interesting...so you could have the top pick, but not want to give up your 1st next year so you offer a later round pick. I'd imagine the highest round a team would offer for Pryor would be a 4th or 5th.
  8. I've never heard anything about the supplemental draft prior to this. What is the draft order? Same as the draft in April? Are there actually other desirable players, or is Pryor the only one? Where do people think Pryor would go if he was eligable for the actual draft?
  9. I think the Indians are gonna regret that deal.
  10. Guess it would be a cheap way to triple the amount of discussion in the Cubs discussions forum.
  11. 1st and 3rd with 0 outs in the 9th down by a run and they don't score. Nice job losing a series to a 39-84 team.
  12. Yeah but there's surely an opportunity cost. If a team like the Pirates spends a ton on the draft, that's less they spend on the team. How have the Rays spent since their rebuilding plan starting churning out winning teams? Just curious because their payroll spiked when they got good (as you'd expect).
  13. Random thought: Whatever happened to Jimy_is_mispell? or whatever his name was?
  14. Here is the "I don't want to click on the link" breakdown of OVR ratings. QB: Cutler 85 QB: Hanie 72 RB: Forte 89 RB: Barber 75 FB: E.Williams 50 WR: Knox 79 WR: Williams 79 WR: Hester 79 WR: Bennett 76 TE: Spaeth 67 TE: Davis 66 LT: Webb 74 LG: Williams 84 (LMAO) C : Garza 75 RG: Louis 72 RT: Carimi 74 OL: Spencer 74 LE: Idonije 82 DT: Adams 81 DT: Toeina 77 RE: Peppers 95 LB: Briggs 93 LB: Urlacher 94 LB: Roach 70 CB: Tilman 86 CB: Jennings 80 SS: Harris 88 FS: Wright 68
  15. Lucking into Rose > Sucking into Peyton
  16. Meh, they've needed him because they've actually been winning close baseball games lately. Earlier in the season he would go 2 weeks without a save opp. I know we're not going anywhere this year but he's an established pitcher who has been able to throw 70+ relief innings a year. I'm not worried about him getting hurt. Is Carlos still leading the MLB in blown saves after this one? Quite troubling for a pitcher who just got a big extension this spring.
  17. I was starting to enjoy the Cubs winning every game.
  18. Wow. I wasn't expecting that. Old Cobs are back
  19. 12 of Colvin's 19 hits this year have been extra bases. 5 HR, 1 3B, 6 2B, 7 1B
  20. I almost posted this when I saw it on deadspin. That guy does some really spot on impressions. My favorite was Buster Olney name dropping or Craig Sager.
  21. Probably a lot of them if they have something they want to speak to the fans about. I'd rather them do this then keep us fans in the dark.
  22. It would be like if Ryno had stayed on and become bench coach. I think everyone is staying. I think we're going to hear some awful stuff about the team having come together and starting to play up to its capability now that people are back from injuries, we're going to hear about how great the draft was (and it was), and that it's going to be Hendry/Quade for 2012. Actually, Ryno as bench coach made sense, and so does Hendry as scout. Olders GMs move into scouting all the time. He's not an up and comer who has been earning promotions. He's been in his position for a decade, he's older, has had health problems and is under contract. If he wants the money he is owed, he will stay on in whatever capacity they want him. Nobody is going to be banging down his down to lead their team. I don't think that part about the money is true. The Cubs can try to reassign him, but Hendry is within his rights to say no and collect his paycheck instead. The contract he signed almost certainly comes with the title of GM and the club would be breaking the contract if the tried to make him something else. The contract says he has to be the GM? It probably doesn't allow for him to get demoted, but I'm sure the contract isn't voided if the Cubs "promote" him. It doesn't seem like it would be difficult for the Cubs to spin a a new title for him as a promotion. Like jersey said, its not like he has another GM job waiting for him as soon as he leaves the Cubs. While he wouldnt be happy about being moved to another position, it would make sense for him to accept the move and jump ship if that opportunity ever comes up again. Or he could say 'screw the Cubs' and look for a similar position (as the one the cubs try to offer him) on a different club. But the chances of him making the same amount of money the Cubs are playing him for a lesser role is slim to none. Edit: Of course this is all based on the premise that the cubs are really planning on doing something like this, which I don't believe is likely.
  23. I love the part where he plays to the fans talking about how the fanbase deserves a winner. Yes we do. That doesn't make me any more likely to believe the garbage coming out of your mouth.
